But it seems the musician is going ahead with his threat as he said he intends to sue Timi Dakolo and Charles Novia for “giving Timi the right to work on the song”.
And with the latest development, both Majek and Charles Novia engaged in a war of words when Saturday Beats reached out to them to get their side of the story.
Majek Fashek’s music business consultant, Omenka Uzoma, who spoke on his client’s behalf, said that by March, they would begin the lawsuit process. He gave reasons why it took this long to instigate a legal action.
He said, “We are very serious about suing Timi Dakolo and Charles Novia. It took us this long to take action because we have not been in Nigeria for a while. When we came back, we noticed that our work had been infringed upon and we sent a direct message to the parties involved with the hope that they would come around but they did not.
Uzoma claimed Majek is very angry with Charles saying, “Charles Novia knows that Majek has had his ups and downs in life and he capitalised on that. Majek was not aware of any transaction and he did not receive any money. He is saying these things because he feels that once people hear Majek, what comes to their mind is the image of a drunk. Majek does not have a contract with Charles Novia; even a managerial contract does not exist between them. Where was Charles Novia in 2005? He was not different from the people in Alaba but it was Majek that gave him a name when he allowed him market his album, Little Patience. Majek was in America when Charles Novia came to beg him for help. Charles Novia said he wanted to delve into music and he wanted to become popular. Majek talked to his boss in California and vouched for Charles. Majek also did this so that his fans in Nigeria could get a feel of his music and Charles Novia and the American company went into an agreement with Majek vouching for Charles Novia.

They said that Charles Novia was to pay some certain amount of money to the company but he did not complete the payment and that caused problems between Majek and his boss in America. It was part of Majek’s downfall and he lost out in America. Majek was not paid a dime for the album.”
Uzoma still alleged Majek is not aware of the contract with Timi Dakolo.
“For those who think that Majek is broke and wants to use this law suit to make some money, they should know that he lives in an apartment that costs N7m per annum in Magodo. Who is Timi Dakolo? Majek’s song is currently used in the United States to raise funds to feed Africa. I signed the contracts in the United Kingdom for the song, We are Not Afraid. No one in Africa has the kind of international reputation Majek Fashek has. He is too big for all of them and that is why he did not want to talk initially. Where people should have begun to suspect him was when he said he paid N500, 000 for the song. It is like paying N40, 000 for a 2017 car. This is disrespectful. Majek started having his problem because of Charles Novia,” he said.
Responding to the allegations levelled against him, veteran film maker, Charles Novia was upset because he felt his name is being tarnished. In his words, he said, “Majek and his manager Uzoma must be high on stupid weed.”
I spent about five years of my life trying to bring his career back on track but he went into a dark hole and after the dealings I had with Timi Dakolo, I said I had had enough. For somebody to call himself Majek’s manager and he is trying to malign my image, he must be high on weed, he does not know what he is saying and he is a bad influence on Majek. He is as stupid as whatever he is taking. The whole industry knows what I did for this guy. Uzo is not at liberty to comment on the transactions I had with Majek when I was managing him. It is not his business because we had the power of attorney and in the presence of four witnesses in the office Majek gave me power of attorney and he put his thumb print on it. Majek came and was begging that he needed money. We negotiated on his behalf and we got $2000 for it and that was when a naira to a dollar was about N250,” he said.

Bla bla bla... Waiting for the other side of the story
ReplyDeleteThe day I read Timi posted receipt of #500000 I was like this is too cheap he could have even given him the permission for free. Majek is not cheap, something is fishing, I hope Timi can ask Charles for the truth and possibly settle out of court by renegotiating with Majek's manager.
DeleteSomething is FISHY
DeleteThis Novia is a cheap rude bully. Why is he repeating "weed"?? cos he knows that is Majek's weakness and he's trying to rub it in to cover the issue on ground. That's my own observation.
DeleteGhen ghen!
ReplyDeleteTheir cup of fura de nunu abeg
ReplyDeleteNever you trust a @Charles
ReplyDeleteThat name

This yeye Charles Novia don show again,Very useless man.Benin people nor dey want make their neighbour better pass them. Can you imagine him saying bros Majek is high on weed, even if he's high ,is it your business uncle Charles..I pity your daughter,Cynthia. She's too quiet to ve such a betrayal of a dad like you...And yes, They actually stole Majek Fashek's song..make i nor yarn wetin nor concern me sef.
ReplyDelete*A BETRAYER of a dad
DeleteDon't mind the idiot
DeleteMajek don't let your evil adviser that calls himself legal adviser to lead you to your doom
ReplyDeleteA lawsuit is not what should be on your mind if you ask me
See how he's bragging that he lives in a 7m a year apartment
Same Majek that his colleagues helped and took to rehab to make sure he's sane again?
This issue should be settled amicably
Call Timi and Charles and iron things out
Don't be deceived Majek.
I'm with you on this.
DeleteOne million likesππππ

ReplyDeleteWith the way Charles Novia is talking it's obvious he took advantage of Majek Fashek. Mean people everywhere! Instead of him to make constructive argument, he is busy throwing insults like a tout. I hope Majek gets justice.
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteWhat I see here is kinda hard. I see a man who agreed to sell his 'song right' for a pot of pottage ($2000) and a probably cunning buyer who paid an agreed price. Now 'Esau ' has realised his folly and wants his rights back.
ReplyDeleteIts hard to judge this case.
Such reputable celebrities should have settled this amicably.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I forsee a long exchange of war of words.
ReplyDeleteNo Esau here biko. Timi's version still hasn't gone ad far as Majek's. Majek is the original artist and was like what Tuface is right now, way back. It's just a cover. Even whitney had several covers of I will always love from Dolly Parton to Jay Hud. I ony wish Majek maintianed a steady lifestyle. Maybe he would have been rolling with them Wyclef (by the way my mum calls WyClef 'Cyclist' or 'Cy-clef'. Since that time be came to Nigeria and rode bikes with Charly Boy crew π) However, if I were Timi I would have obtained rights directly from Majek, since Majek is reachable.
ReplyDeleteJust checked on YouTube and as a matter of fact they both performed the song on stage together for an award show. So my guess is the grouse isn't about Timi but Novia. So, what gave Charles the rights to sell the song to Timi? Did he involve Majek? Or did he think Majek was too 'out of order' to remember? It's not about shouting 'dead career' 'they are high on cheap weed'. Novia should give us facts not insult Abeg. We don't want to know what's gone before. Please put cards on the table and give us facts about the transaction. I hate it when people can't communicate efficiently.
Thank you chickito! U mirrored my thoughts.
DeleteCorrect
DeleteWas it not 2 years ago majek fashek was picked under bridge begging for 500naira?Thanks to the guy that posted the pic.we can't forget so soon.
ReplyDeleteSo because he went to rehab now he can't have a say again? He can't talk when he's not being treated fairly by an associate. Majek's rehabilitation issue was no secret. He was open about the need for help. And people who know the value of Majek's music way back had a burden in their heart to help him. And they did. Doesn't change the fact that he's a pioneer nigerian artist and should be respected for his talent. So please choke on that picture.
DeleteThank you,Chikito
DeleteChikito, you are insulting someone but when they come for you, they are haters. Same way you went for atheist. You can disagree with bvs without insults. Don't cry when they come for you.
DeleteWhere is the insults?????? Move On pls, stop bringing up dead issues.
Delete*are*
DeleteMaybe Charles Novia took the large sum of the 500k since he was managing majek then and thought the guy didn't know money cos of his rehab.
ReplyDeleteWhen you resort to abuses instead of just stating your case then there is something wrong. @Charles Novia
ReplyDeleteHope Daddy Showkey is getting ready to mediate and settle this brouhaha...
