The workers said this at a rally, yesterday, in Lagos to decry the current state of the health sector.
They also expressed their dissatisfaction over the non-implementation of the agreement the union had with the Federal Ministry of Health since 2009.
The union’s national president, Mr Obinna Ogbonna, said the neglect of the system over the years had resulted to its decay both in administration and service.
He said: “For years, Nigerians have decried the deplorable situations in our health system that needs serious attention.
“If Nigerians must be healthy and receive quality healthcare services, then this ugly trend must change.
“If nothing is done against the flagrant display of lawlessness, perversion of justice and the rot in the health sector accounting for millions of preventable pains and deaths in Nigeria before Feb. 27, the union will be left with no other option than to declare a strike.“
Ogbonna urged the ministry to implement the agreement the union and the government jointly reached to curb the incessant strikes in the sector.
“The FMOH should recognise and obey court orders. It should give instructions to the chief medical directors (CMDs) of the various health institutions to ensure there is autonomy in their hospitals.
“They should also give freedom of expressions to other healthcare professionals in their various facilities.
“That will help us curb the incessant acrimony, strikes and disharmony in the health sector, “ he said.

ReplyDeleteThis is the exact reasons I left Nigeria health system cos you the nurse working is even endangering ur life more cos there's no sundries to work with, when patients die cos of nosocomial conditions they ran to social media to cuss out the health professionals that put their lives on the line cos them while their worst enemies who are the admin & govt go Scot free.

Imagine 2 nurses for 30 incapacitated patients no be she go die 1st b4 them? honestly God is really with them cos they are trying so much With the deplorable state of our hospitals. Our leaders don't care cos the go abroad for treatment, I have never seen shameless, foolish, brainless, wicked, leaders like Nigerian leaders. Tueh !! they are so foolish running down dis country Cos they go to another country. How many countries come to Nigeria for anything. Except sypnoning our assets. One day monkey will go market I no go return.

ReplyDeleteIt is a long overdue strike given the appalling working conditions and various occupational hazards just waiting to happen. Enjoin other civil society groups and citizens to support this movement. Yet, again many Naija's are more interested in commenting on Tonto's private life (as seen on this blog) than show up/take action on the substantial matters that affect their well-being. If you ask me, who I go ask? QED@atm
