I have an aunt that is a counsellor in her school and the kind of horror I hear her talk about is mind bioggling. You hear some things and scoff"It can't happen" but it does.
Case 1:A young poor child,living with some peeps in Lagos.JSS 3(when the case finally turned) she had Bn living with them since she was 9 or so. "Madam" works in A Govt establishment. Bring school fees,useless "man" of The house wil say later. Later wil be "if I sleep with u,u have it" Bring excursion money,later. And it went on like that for a long time.I asked of the wife"Where was she? She didn't know? Aunty said she did. I objected(as if I knew the woma) There's no easy she would know of this and still keep that child with the predator of a husband. Aunty smiled "Wait Na let me finish The story" Shockingly but true,the woman knew. Infact at a time,the child got pregnant. And it was that evil woman that took her to abort the baby. Crazy but true.
Case 2:Nice girl. Bn living with this family for ages. Good child. Madam loved her. The kids as well. Everyone did. Head girl she was then. And the teachers all loved her. Then all of a sudden,her tummy started shooting out. The teachers were in shock. No one believed what they were seeing cos it just wasn't possible. Till Finally they confronted her. Poor child! She didn't even know what they were talking about. She admitted her tummy was getting bigger but she attributed it to sleeping on the floor in a cold room(she loved sleeping on tht floor) Her innocence and oblivious understanding of the whole things was there staring them in their faces. But so was her pregnancy.
The teachers interrogated her,In the end,there was no boyfriend. She hadn't had sex before. Nothing! They told her to think back about anything or any situation that may have endangered her and there was none. She was well-looked after and so there wasn't any talk of rape or strangers acting funny. But along the line she mentioned her Aunty and the kids went on a short holiday and she couldn't to cos she had Mock exams coming. One day he had given her Juice. It caught the teacher's attention. Oga pouring the help juice??Upon further interrogation,they discovered she couldn't really remember anything that happened afterwards and the time frame matched the pregnancy. The wife was invited. She said the wife was Stunning. Described her as a Bianca look alike. The news was broken to her. Poor woman. They said she was shocked and took it well....

My Aunty's husband Attempted to rape me twice while living with them. I was about 23 then, and living with them because I got a job in Abuja and I'm based in PH.

2nd time, something similar. I had to tell my mum this time. It was decided I start putting in action leaving the place. But I avoided him in the house and made sure if I'm to say or give him anything it will be in presence of his wife.
I started applying for transfer to my state. Few months later, it was granted and I left their house.
Before then he just started treating me unkindly in the house. complaining of everything I do.
We decided not to tell my aunt, because it may break her marriage and I pity the kids as she's a house wife. plus she worships the man like god. She knows of his girlfriends and even outside child, but she keeps quiet.
One thing I know is since I left the house, the man fears me.
Na wa oo..all this stories I'm reading just means that WE women have to pluck out our eyes just to watch what goes on in our homes!

I have a younger sister who at the time was serving and unknown to me, he was communicating with her at odd hours. Asking her to send pixs,asking what she was wearing to bed. My sister excuse was she didn't want to ruin the relationship and I asked her to what extent would it benefit me? As tough as I am, I have been a victim of harassment, not rape but improper handling by my sister's husband. One night after I served dinner, I joked with him that I pitied his home alone situation that I will come and play with him. Shit! Wrong choice of words for a freak but too late. He said yes ooooo. Women need to prioritize their own life over a man's. Many of them are worthless pigs that you should not trust even your own daughters alone with. A word is enough for the wise. And many women suffer in silence not mostly so they can retain their married title but because they depend on their husbands financially. You can imagine fighting your husband over a sexual misconduct and you are the one who is thrown out of the place you call home, left alone to cater for your kids alone. So women need to be more responsibile and plan ahead, so if at all at a point you discover horrible things about the man you call husband, you can be bold to take actions and not let it slide and make him continue to misbehave about.

ReplyDeleteI had experienced harassment by my best friend's 70yr old father!! I still have never told her. We came yo town from Uni (her parents lived in town and we visit often). I went to his room to greet him and he was asking me to sit down on the bed. In the name of a hug, all of a sudden he squeezed my breast!! I wriggled free and left. After then, he gets greeted from afar. I still feel disgust till this day that I couldn't do anything . For my kids, i am praying and keeping eagle eye.
