DeleteThe last time I sent my child on hol was when he was crawling. My reason: cos grandma will carry him everywhere she goes. The minute a child learns to walk, they just assume that the child is fine when indoors. Everywhere, I mean every damn place I go, my child is with me. I also have a two year old daughter and believe me she has no sense of danger. She almost poured hot oil on herself the other day and when I tried talking to her after the incident, she was just smiling lovingly. All I could see was a little baby that needed to be protected.

Dolapo stated she had a family friend that had kids from 4years up. And even though the kids were pressed you only assisted them in opening the toilet door. Once your adult hand reaches their bottom. They form a defense and say you can not go there blocking your hands. They say my mummy and daddy said no one should touch me there. That's how you can educate kids. But a 2yr old, I don't know what to say.

DeleteI trained my kids (6 and 3) to slap whoever kisses or touches their private including us. The teaching is slap the person, shout and run to report to the nearest adult. That's what they do and my husband and I regularly touch them to know whether they are on point. One time, my mother in law playfully touched my daughter, she landed her a slap dt she still talks about.

Just yesterday my 8 year old told me that there is this gist going round in her class that a boy and girl (both in her class but a different arm) always go to the toilet together and the boy removes the girl's pants and also inserts his finger in her vag bla bla bla. Today, I went to the head teacher and reported and ensured the case is taken up. By tomorrow I will find out how far.
Teach your girls that no-body is allowed to touch their vagina. Tell them it is called vagina, it is not bom-bo. Do not sugar coati. Vagina is the name, say it as it is.
Never let a boy touch it, he does, slap and bite him and scream.
Ensure you wear your girl child tights or pop socks(if its allowed)to school not just pants under uniform.
Teach your sons about sex and it's dangers.
Teach your girl child never to follow any boy in school or uncle or whoever to a secluded place.
Pls and pls mothers do not underestimate anybody. Even your female or male househelps for they can begin to touch your kids without you knowing it. That's how lesbo/homo starts.
Have your kids-time everyday. Inculcate the habit of them telling you how their day went. For me, I call it gist-time and I do mine when I pick my kids from school. Straight up in the car, I ask - how are u? How did your day go and they begin one after the other.
At night, after their prayers, I advice them.

And yes, you can teach a 2 year old sex education appropriate for his/her age in a way that they'll understand, best believe. We don't know if he'd been touching her prior to this. That is what sex education at this stage should address. Inappropriate touches and words by relatives/minders. That's why a child would be fingered on a daily under her parents' noses, but won't breathe a word, because they've been threatened and don't know better.
But in this case, there was nothing she could do. I mean, he took her and messed her system up. He raped her.

Lastly mothers when going to church make proper arrangements where to keep ur child. Back her if you must go to church. Mums need to be more vigilant. I am sorry with what is happening if nowhere to put my child, I wld rather seat my ass down and do my prayers at home or I carry that child with me.

I just wonder for women who still leave der female kids for men to look after when they are going out, i raise Bey hand for una, una get mind n eyes to cry!!! Im a mum of 2, my daughter is 11yrs, i have never left her with any family male since i gave birth to her except her dad. She is 11 now n im super protective n still cant leave her to be with just anybody when im out on business n other errands. When im off to church she is by my side n it has always bin like that since she was born. When im travelling i leave her with my mum inlaw or my own mum or sister. Aside these pple i have never n cant leave her with any one else, even @11yrs, how much more 2yrs??? @2yrs, she will be @her pram by my side no matter d business appointment. I no get pikin wen person go useless. Mums have to be super careful n vigilant especially with their female kids. When my ddaughter was 2, she had already started talking, and since then till date i point to her vigina n tell her its a no go area. Except frm granma or my sis is giving her a birth, till date its bin in her head n she is very cautious of her body. I guess thats what d writer meant by educating d child early. ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of my own rape by a neighbour, at the aged of 9 years old. My had sent me on errand to see whether my aunt was at her home and if she was, i was to tell her that my mum wanted to see her. She was a midwife at the hospital and separated from the father of her three children. Some weeks, she would work mornings and other weeks, she would work night shift. Because of her schedule, she had untrusted her brother to move in with her, in order to look after her children whilst she was away. Unfortunately, unbeknown to her, her brother was a paedophile, who would from time to time rape all her children.
On that fateful day, i went knocking on the gate and he asked me to come in. I did not enter the house until i asked whether my aunt was in, because my mum is asking after her. He lied that she was in and that i should enter the compound and wait for her. As soon as i obliged, he kidnapped, undressed and raped me. Once he finished with raping me, he took his belt and gave me the beating of my life, with so much brutality that i was so bruised and then he threatened me to keep quiet. Until today, nobody knows that i was raped by my neighbour.
I remember that i was very bruised in my private and it felt as if my vulva was on fire. All i could do was to cry and cry. When my older cousin who was living with us noticed me, i told her that my private was all red and on fire. She came and had a look, it was all red and i had developed cauliflower type inflammation in and out of my vulva. She had called her mum who applied a medicinal plant on it and it relieved the pain. I had the medicinal plant applied for over a week, but the ugly things are still there in my private. When i was old enough to see a gynaecologist, they did a test on it, but revealed no HPV or STD. I am pretty sure i had developed an STD, but somehow, it is not showing on tests.

ReplyDeleteI see many adults here too with stories of rape from way back that they did not report. Please do other potential victims a favor and report them! Call them out even if they are your relatives. You do not wish what happened to you on them. The Nigerian government need to take rape seriously. What are our women legislature doing? What are civil societies doing? Only women can understand the damage rape does so why treat it with so much levity. Punishment should be very severe to serve as deterenece. Some men just can't be deterred by light sentencing or even family saying they have forgiven them. Truth is it is only a matter of time, they will do it again and again. Rape should be synonymous to murder because they damage the soul.

My little nieces and nephews were thought how to not allow any one (me included ooo unless their mum says "it's okay, allow her to clean u up baby") to help them wipe or clean whenever they pee or poo, unless their parent. I could remember when their dad came in from their school and started quarreling with their mum as to how a teacher (not the class nanny that the poor girl was used to) was vexing cos the baby girl didn't allow her clean her up after she pooed in school, they had to call the class teacher to help her. Kids are smart, teach them whatever you need them to learn from young ages and you won't regret it. You can't tell my niece to go and bring her pant for you to wear for her, she would scream NOOOOOO..........
