This series is aimed at being a satirical window into the happenings of the Nigerian service industry. The first episode features the infamous Nigerian Tailor – which is a very relatable experience for most Nigerians. We all have a story to tell about the Nigerian tailor.
I saw this just before it was posted here and I could so relate. Nigerian tailors are the most annoying set of artisan's smh. LOL, very nice video

ReplyDeleteI used to hear stories of Tailors and their dissapointment but wil laugh it off cos I have Never Bn a victim.... that is till this last Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI had gotten my fabrics a while ago.like 7 fabrics.I wanted to make 3 tops and 4 dresses.And on that fateful day,I went with my friend to my Tailor's. In the car she more than once asked me why we were headed there. She too was to make hers there. I had convinced her my tailor was hotter than hers. LMAO
She didn't really want to go but then she has seen my natives and knows I have bad ass Tailors. And wanted to kinda try it out esp as it was Christmas.
So off to GRA we went and when we got there she was impressed. My fave chick appeared and we exchanged pleasantries. I had other clothes I "forgot" there and she and I went off to try it on in the Dressing room. The clothes were divine! I looked like an Egyptian Mermaid! LMAO. We got to the Waiting room and the customers there nodded in approval. One of them complimented my Beautiful Red dress.
MY pal was impressed and so she finally made up her mind to have her clothes made there.
The biggest mistake I would make would be this.
Fast forward 3 weeks later,I was nearby in a salon and remembered I hadn't Bn called for my fittings and so I called Reception to know what's up. They informed me that regrettably,all my clothes weren't ready but I can come and try out those that were ready. It seemed odd. A whole coy like them? And they couldn't even inform me. I said well,they said only 2 were remaining so that's not bad. There was still time.
I finished up in the salon and went over and my dresses were brought to me. I carried them to d dressing room, I wore dress 1, and thought I looked like a bloated toad.The dress was too big! Like it wasn't my measurements that were used. Dress 2,I looked unrecognisable in the mirror. I paused and took some pictures of me and the dress to make sure the mirrors weren't deceiving me.
The pictures looked even worse 😂It's funny now but I was speechless! And there were just two dresses and one top. Where were the rest? The top,instead of long sleeve was "mid-sleeve"
I started dressing up,all the while thinking what would happen to the red shoes and ripped jeans I had gotten solely to match my red top. I was mad. But remained calm. Went to them asked for my other clothes and was told they weren't ready. I asked why they told me only 2 were remaining and they told me it was a mix up. By then I was thinking of my pals outfits. I asked and they told me to please hold. I saw them go in and out,check their system and finally in a low tone one of the guys told me none of her clothes were ready!😳
This was just like 3 days or so before I was to travel to Villa. And same with my friend.
At that point,I felt tired. Soo tired!
I just picked up my bag amidst chants of "Pls madam wait,let's adjust the dresses for u"
I ignored them and I walked out,got into the car,My thoughts faaar away....

THIS IS SO APT... MY TAILOR WOULD JUST SWITCH OFF HER PHONE ON THE COLLECTION DAY AND SHE KNOWS MOST OF HER CUSTOMERS ARE TOO BUSY TO COME TO HER SHOP, BUT IF YOU VENTURE GO, SHE WOULD NOT BE AROUND OR SHE WOULD FIRST CALL YOU IN THE MORNING CRYING THAT SHE LOST SOMEONE....HAAAAAAAAA!!!
ReplyDeletePERSONALLY I HAVE DEVICED A ONE WEEK AHEAD STRATEGY FOR THEM TOO, I TELL THEM I NEED THE DRESS AT LEAST 3 DAYS BEFORE I ACTUALLY NEED IT,SO THAT WE HAVE 2 DAYS FOR DRAMA, BECAUSE IN TRUTH YOU DONT NEED MORE THAN 3 HRS TO SEW A VERY COMPLICATED DRESS...SO I THINK OUR TAILORS AINT JUST DISCIPLINED, THEY TAKE MORE WORK THAN THEY CAN HANDLE, THEY ARE TOO GREEDY TO REJECT WORK AND THEY ALWAYS FEEL THEY HAVE TIME...
I challenge u to sew a simple dress for 5 hrs, and how easy it is, later u will complain say na rubbish dem sew for u. Ode

Hmmm. Some of you think is easy to be a fashion designer (tailor). I used to be angry with me tailor untill I became a fashion designer too. It not easy o,so many style and the running around to meet up. There is more to sewing than the finished Product. Just me more bear with us and you will get the best.
DeletePeople really need to understand the fact that it's not easy bin a tailor. If u really gud at it o..... d work ll start coming from left, right, front, back n Centre..... U ll even forget d date u gave for delivery seff. The work no easy at all. No way u wunt disappoint..... If ur tailor is always on point...... Maybe she's a beginner...... Give her more tym and u ll get to knw...
