Yesterday we discussed the Osu system in Nigeria and how it affects those who marry those who have been labelled as OUTCASTS (Osu)
Let's discuss further please...Take a sit on this couch I borrowed, will return it today.
Are you An Osu or you married one?
What are the implications of being one or being with one?
What about the Children from a non Osu person who marries an Osu?Should one worry or hope that someday this too might phase out?
There are so many questions!
Like Someone Confused,A BV sent this in...
''I read the chronicles post of yesterday regarding the Osu catse system. Some blog visitors enlightened us on the history of this system but one thing struck, most people kept mentioning that if you end up marrying one you are faced with curses and evil.
What kind of curses Are they talking about? Is it financial, spiritual or mental?. No one expanded on this. So please could you post this for further clarification so we all will be fully aware of the consequences.
Thank you and have yourself a lovely week''.

I'm less concern abeg
ReplyDelete*Larry was here*
I really don't care whether you are Osu or whatever.
DeleteLove me right and I will adore you.
Every thing else is secondary.
The trolls Ngozi and co that replied me yesterday, it seems you both have a hard time understanding English. My village has no OSU. And we don't recognize it either. For instance if an OSU wants to marry from my place, its not an abomination. Kapish? I know you won't still understand. "Dumbras" Anybody from Enugwu ukwu in Anambra to confirm this?
DeleteLove conquers all,but it isnt always enough as well..
Deletefrom what i have learnt regarding the Osu caste system;Their best shot/solution is inter-tribal/inter-ethnic marriage..
your family cant help you alone if you are to marry an osu from your tribe..cos they arent the only people involved in the marriage(the community/clan is also involved, and they do inquiries before marriage as well)..But when its inter-tribal,there are enough chances to be married and live in peace..
i cant write much tho cos i would really take space here..my advice is just what i stated above!!
@MARTINS ABOY
Hehehehehe, see new couch.na here I go sleep today, Ideato abeg bring wrapper cover me o make cold nor finish me.
DeleteNow I see why they have no manners, always hateful and rude to others, born with hate, brought up with tales of hatred, nnamdi kanu na example with his hate radio station, marry ibo na your downfall, see linda eze too, tuuueh animal in human skin
DeleteThere are many OSU in Enugwu ukwu @ Precious.
DeleteGo and figure outππ
There is no implications of marrying an osun.
DeleteOsu marry non osun everyday...... It's just an old believe
Most osu ppl dt I knw end up marrying deltans cos d dnt care about that over thr..so if u ar a man and u an osu I advice u to marry deltans to avoid heart break
DeletePrecious there are so many osu in Enugwu ukwu oh. Please ask your parents to tell you the truth.
DeleteChai,enugwu ukwu,my ogbeye,*Small london*
DeleteStella I've noticed that all the ibos on this blog so not really know the real meaning of this osu thingy.i was really curious to know and I read each comment word for word, even my bf just said the meaning is outcast he didn't expantiate on it.im yoruba while he's ibo from Anambra and he just didn't tell me much.in conclusion I feel this osu thingy is just like a stigma I'm not sure it really has any repercussion.for crying out loud it's 21st century..let's all embrace one another.my 2cents
DeleteOur couch is beautiful Stella
ReplyDeleteBeautiful couch .well I don't know about been cursed when one marry an Osu in this present times.all I know is the person will be "Labeled for life
ReplyDeleteWho cares about traditional belief these days... If you're an Osu, my advise to you is inter-ethnic marriage.
ReplyDeletespace taken...Brb to read comments and learn
ReplyDeleteTo MMM Participants,
ReplyDeletePLEASE KINDLY CHECK YOUR PO, ON THE SETTINGS SECTION UNDER THE MY PAGE BUTTON, IF YOUR CURRENCY HAS CHANGED TO BITCOIN. CHANGE IT NOW TO NAIRA AND SAVE. SOME UPGRADES WERE PERFORMED AND THE SYSTEM CHANGED SOME ACCOUNTS. WITH THIS, SWITCHING BETWEEN NAIRA & BITCOIN IS NOW POSSIBLE.
THANKS.
Poster, my thoughts exactly..
ReplyDeleteI have always heard about the osu caste system but I have never bothered to read up on it, up until yesterday.
So who here married an osu, and suffered for it?
I want to know the repercussions too.. And it will make more sense coming from someone that has been affected first hand.
Where I come from, there is no osu caste there.
What exactly will happen to me if I decide to marry an osu?
I have never seen an osu before, would like to meet one..
In all, I wish the tag of an osu can be removed..
Dum Spiro spero.
There are no curses. Those are mere beliefs of our fore fathers that once you are a slave or Ohu in local parlance, you are one because of a curse of poverty or lack of material things from the gods. Those are ancient beliefs which do not hold waters now.
ReplyDeleteHopefully u would marry one, if u ain't one.
DeleteI really don't know about any curses associated with this OSU thing.I also do not understand why it's still in practice.I've even heard someone say something about it being in the Bible. It's a barbaric custom, and should be abolished with immediate effect. It doesn't make sense to me. I don't mind marrying one,but I know my folks would seriously kick against it.
ReplyDeleteHehehehe may one come your way then.
DeleteAnonymous y are u pooing under people's comments?

ReplyDeleteNice couch and please don't return it.
The only curses you experienced as an Osu is the discrimination and nothing more!...
ReplyDeleteI can't marry one though only on one condition sha..
When money talks,people listen.
DeleteCondition @ Queen is Ego Ego
I like money too.
It takes the grace of God to be fully delivered from that covenant and tag called "osu" . Most of them that I know are rich and beautiful! I know of a family that is one and got married! If you marry them without proper investigation, things start to happen ! Strange things! Not good by the way!
ReplyDeleteLike wat. Wana know the strange thing DAT will happen
DeleteIt's a lie. Where I come from there is nothing like osu. We don't believe in it. My younger brother got married to one now he is doing very well.
DeleteYea. A lot of strange things. Life is more spiritual than we see it
DeleteAnon 12.25..Huge lie.No curses abeg. The only thing that happens is that you are ostracized in your community. No strange things happen abeg.Make una take am easy dey lie.
DeleteOsu should marry themselves.
DeleteBig lies
Delete
ReplyDeleteBiko Stella thank you so much abeg.... Let me sit down with a bottle of baileys and read comment below.....
Oya Lets go there.....
As a young rich educated Igbo guy I can marry any girl I want. All those Osu issues is for uneducated and poor people
ReplyDeleteLMAO π
DeleteYou will later regret it. Trust me money is not everything.
DeleteMy brother used to say such. When he was ready, No be person tell am make e look well. Don't worry. You'll grow up. There's no hurry o

ReplyDeleteEven some of my colleagues who are Indian doctors talk about outcast in their culture! They call theirs class or outcast! Most of their own outcast are the brown in color Indians! The day I heard it, it was strange to me. Other staff who were from different parts of the world, even the akata from new Orleans said, she knows about the outcast system!
ReplyDeleteI don't like Indian culture for anything, its so so depressing. You are the image of God,so you can never be a castout. Its imposicant.
Deleteits called caste system
DeleteI don't like Indian culture for anything, its so so depressing. You are the image of God,so you can never be a castout. Its imposicant. Beautiful couch by the way, Stella do not return abeg
Deletethe couch is all i see, stella u try gan for this one jare.
ReplyDeleteFor the osu issue, m listening to learn from other bvs
Empressitta
Taking a back bench.....
ReplyDeleteSDK, under the new covenant there's no Jews nor gentiles, slave nor free born. We've all being washed, cleansed and sanctified by the blood of the new and ever lasting convenat, which is the blood of JESUS CHRIST.
ReplyDeleteMy dad once told me some horrible things about the OSU caste system and I told him straight up under the new covenant there's nothing like OSU.
I think is high time we the youths from the Eastern part of Nigeria put out foot down and say ,yeah,we've had enough of that bull crap called OSU ,and now we want it to come to an end. We should abolish that nonsense. I don't give a freaking rat ass where a man comes provided he's born again and doing well am gonna so marry him.
Any one that think OSU caste system should not be abolish needs to be jailed for life. Haba jamman..
How will you keep punishing innocent generations for sins they knew nothing about.
If the whites were the one treating blacks this way ,we would have being shouting racism, how come we're the ones treating our fellow tribal men like second class citizens?
Any man or woman who sees a person they love and the person is born again, they should go ahead and marry them joor, under the law there's no more Course, Christ has taken all the course upon himself when he died upon the cross of Calvary, therefore there's no more condemnation for them that are in Christ Jesus.
The blood has paid all the price for us,so anyone that says otherwise is not a born again child of God.
By the way am not an OSU but I hate bullshit of all forms.
Peace.
Its bullshit till one experiences the strange things that occur! If one chooses to marry an osu! They must go for proper deliverance! What an adult sees while sitting, a child standing might not see it!
DeleteBravo. Till our or your child marries one!
DeleteDon't mind them, they will run mouth but when osu comes, they will develope cold feet, stupid misleaders.
DeleteThen tell us the repercussion na
DeletePlease you guys should shift for me this couch is bae and me also would love to be enlightened about this osu stuff
ReplyDeleteAll I saw on yesterday's chronicles was Dr. Agwo's comment..
ReplyDeleteN. Dr. Agwoturumbe 10 January 2017 at 17:17 said
When I was younger, I said stupid things about marrying OSU. Now I am wiser, I will warn anyone who wants to marry one.
Would you eat food sacrificed to the devil? Whatever your answer to that question is, that's what you should do.
Whether we like it or not, a covenant with the devil has consequences. Some people run abroad bUT when it comes, it comes hard.
Be wise. Love is not enough. If you would never advise 2 people with AS genotype to marry, why advise someone to marry OSU
....
Dr Agwo, really?
Dr Agwo must really be archaic and I bet someone like him be lives in God yet he still supports the osu system
DeleteThis has to be the most ignorant thing I've read so far. Receive your award Dr.
DeleteDr Agwo is right! It's not a child's play.
DeleteOSUS would awalys hate agwo, lol, look at them.
DeleteAll these anonymous coming to comment, it is evil, curses bla bla, please you guys should enlighten us more , comment sth tangible.
DeleteNice sofa, Please do not return it.
ReplyDeletei learnt a lot from yesterday's discussion. let the comment roll in.
This Osu issue is a very big issue in the igbo tribe, no matter how deep routed Christianity has entered into the minds of the people, the Osu issue is something they can not let go.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine was dating a guy, they spent over a year, somehow, the guy found out she's Osu he didn't tell the girl,he quietly left and came to me for a relationship,I blatantly refused because I cannot date my friends ex,it was during our pep talk that he told me the girl is Osu that that was why he left her,I myself cannot even bring myself to ask my friend if she's Osu or not,so long as it does not affect our friendship then I have no issue with it.
I pray that the minds of the people will open so they can drop this Osu issue and move forward,if you see how they are been marginalized in their village eh,you will feel for them, they have them in many parts of the igbo state Imo state have more of it and some part of Abia state,I hear they are equally very rich,is just the stigmatization though, don't think there is any curse in marrying one sha...we need God to help us cleanse our mind sect
Thats not true. Imo state dont have it more just that they care about it more. Others dont care about it. Diala in Imo State believe its a taboo to marry an Osu while other states dont really care about wheather you are an osu or not. Do your research well.
DeleteIt's not in Abia state. It's mostly in IMO and very few parts of Anambra. Those are the states that have OSU in Igbo land.
DeleteIn igbo land Anambra pple have grter percentage of osu Pple , Imo state & Abia care abt this osu thing to the extreme.
DeleteOh my God pls what d fuck is osu. Everybody just talking and talking what is osu ohhhhhhhhh

ReplyDeleteI need to know more about the osu system and please, are people from oguta imo state osu? My relation is marrying a girl from there so i really need to know.
ReplyDeleteOguta Imo state osu?
DeleteThey are married, leave them alone
Dont get it twistted. Every village in Igboland have an osu. Some states care less about it while others are very concerned about it. For instance, in some vilages, they live seperately while in others they live together. But thats bullshit!!! Cos the so called osus are the richest and they are extremly beautiful.
DeleteAtheist, your rants about Chikito was uncalled for. For goodness sake you're a grown ass man. Why are you behaving like a sissy? You talk too much for a man... Mtheeeee.. You think you were mocking her, but hell no, you only ended up showing us how stupid and backward you are. You even used her brother's I'll health to insult her ,don't worry what will befall you will be greater that what you think her family is going through.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame people that called you gay here the other time, you deserved more than that, bcos you're very mean and wicked, in fact u deserved worst than that. Shege banza.
Correct!...
DeleteY'all have hyped that Atheist so much that he's now suffering from narcissism and serious bouts of grand delusions. He's mentally ill too. He just doesn't realize it yet.

Osu my foot, who knws one let me go marry her abeg
ReplyDeleteAmen.
DeleteTherefore if any man be in Christ, he's a new creature, old things are passed away.... Behold all things are become new (2cor 5:17)
ReplyDeleteThat's my take on this Osu thing!!
I'll still like to hear stories though, thanks!!
The only thing that happens when one marries an Osu is stigmatisation. Even the discrimination is hypocritical. You attend the same wedding with an Osu,go to the same school, buy from the same market, fetch from the same stream, sit together in ⛪, do boy friend/girl friend with him/her, even collect 'dash'money from the person, get employment in an office owned by an Osu.When it comes to marriage, you will now remember Osu, Akuko n'egwu!
ReplyDeleteMay osu come and marry you, say amen.
DeleteWhat is wrong with this stupid anonymous.
DeleteWere you dumped by an osun?
Anon, are you better than the so called Osu? You have been littering the post with your useless comments, hiding under anonymous. Get a life please!
DeleteDont mind him/her. Please it is a person, a human being we are talking about here. If you know , you knoe things we don't know, enlighten us, not typing amen on people's comment. GeniusG
DeleteIn igbo land, the osu caste system no longer has the kind of power it has like in the olden days... The osu caste system can be traced to d ancient Nri Kingdom.. Those are the people who in time of war or any affliction ran to the shrine(deity) for protection.. Or those whom are been sacrificed to serve the deity.. An osu can be cleansed as well. There are some sacrifices and other stuffs that can be done to free one from it..but if one is not cleansed, generation to generation of the person wl Remain osu. Though (osu) is not a term to be used publicly as before cos in 1956 igbo leaders banned the common use of the word osu in referring to people of the caste....
ReplyDeleteCopyandpaste.com
DeleteI defied my parents and got married to my sweetheart whom they said was an osu. I have been ostracized by my family because the only man that supported me (my father) is dead. My marriage is 10 years old.Its funny but its still active in IBO land.
ReplyDeleteWatch out for d future.
DeleteStupid ipAnony 14:28. Stop trolling people and wishing them evil or The evil you wish them will come upon you, ahn ahh!!!
DeleteSo you don't know that an idol is nothing? And a believe only has effect on the people that believe in it? Keep living in idolatry....nonsense
Annon14:28 you're really backward to believe in thecOsu bullshit. I am from the tagged Osu village as well, been married for 11years and we are doing great even though he was advised not to marry me. He couldn't have wished for a better wife. I am blessed not cursed. Give your life to Christ Anno14:28 and it shall be well with you.
DeleteThank you Beth, you said my mind.
DeleteNaeto c n saint obi are also OSU...yet they are rich.backward nigeria
ReplyDeleteWhy mentioning their names..
DeleteAnony you sound like an osu.
DeleteYou're still the same stupid Anon up there. So you think you are better than someone because of something their ancestors did? You're just a small minded idiot who knows nothing about life. At the need of the day, anyone can be miserable and your caste system means nothing!!!!
DeleteThe osu thing is a serious cause for concern. In this age and time, people still comfortablely looked down on Gods perfect creation. Its really sad. I also heard that they are always very rich. If that is the case, don't it arose curiosity in their minds That they not actually course, but rather they are blessed.
ReplyDeleteStill they are 'special'
DeleteNot like others•
Datzall
Abeg people should let the real Osu people talk. And not the ones forming fake superiority on their head.
ReplyDeleteMy dear, they dont need to talk. This people are damn rich and you just dont see them in low places
DeleteI'm not Ibo but this OSU thing has always baffled me. It has also reaffirmed my belief of what hypocrites Nigerians are. So with are huge Christian population, upon our having churches on every street, all our MFM, deeper life, HOTR, RCCG etc, what have the Nigerian Christian populace done to bring an end to this archaic, ancient, demonic, and outdated culture. We carry ourselves and go for Shiloh, go for the Experience, go for Redeemed convention, and then turn around and refer to human beings that God created as OSU, that they are slaves, that they are not freeborn. I cry as I type this. What type of Christianity do we practice in this Nigeria? Someone will tell me he/she is born again, and that same person will they their family member cannot marry OSU. Please all the Daddy GOs and General Overseers, what have then done as Christian leaders to reverse this mindset and culture? Or do they think that heading a church is just about acquiring private jets
ReplyDeleteThere is a religion called hypocrisy in this country.
DeleteGreater than all other religions in this country.
At the end if this your brouhaha you sounded myopic.
Delete#Be the type of person you want to meet*
ReplyDeleteIn Nkanu land in Enugu state, we have what they call ohu and Amadi; ohu(slave) are the people that are servants to the rich in the olden days while Amadi are the rich. So, there's unnecessary discrimination between this two. There's absolutely no evil or bad luck on those that married ohu or Amadi in Nkanu. People just make laws that suit them. In fact, in Nkanu land the so called ohu are the most educated and rich. I don't know about that of Osu. So called Christians believe in what our fore father's enacted; and the bible said there's no difference between the jew and Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. While, God didn't call you slave or freeborn or even out caste, what right do you have to call God's creatures names. If we are saying a Godly things, why do we keep talking about it in hush tone. In Nkanu land, you can't discuss this in open cos if heard, you will be arrested. Banish it na they wouldn't. The people that practice this are highly influential and educated. Odiegwu! Chi Austin
ReplyDeletepls if u r a rich, tall, handsome osu Guy, add me up mbok..Let me teach all these "i cant do an osu" that Osu are also human.. #hahaha Let this ibo sisters be dulling themselves. Once u are a born again, old things have passed away and all things have become new. There should never be discrimination against anyone
ReplyDeleteChristian Sister Ty

ReplyDeleteThere are outcasts in kogi State. The igbos are more open to talk about their own
ReplyDeleteWow!I never knew we had such there please throw more light I am dating a kogi lady from igala
DeleteNo outcasts rubbish talk amongst the Igalas.
Deletelet me speak for my self i will not marry one bc
ReplyDelete1, it will break my parents heart
2, it will bring discrimination upon me
3,it will bring contempt to my nuclear and extended family at large.
4,it will affect the reputation my family has worked hard to make
5.i don't have strength to go and start binding and casting deities that he was or his ancestors dedicated to.
6.i don't want to be doing fasting and prayers all my life or one day they will inform me that is now our turn to start taken care of the oracle in case am not prayerful.
I wouldn't want to bring my children into the world with someone that has ungodly family background and they will now leave their lives breaking generational curses.
But i will not discriminate on anyone that is osu based on other grounds Like being friends with them, doing biz with them etc. My friends dad once had an osu driver and their Uncle's so discriminated on him and on countless times adviced the dad to sack him.
I am 1 and to avoid stories that touch after my mum's younger sis had an experience. I sharp sharp change leg and started dating outside my tribe o am happily married to a Calabar man o I can't shout. You see the amazing thing about this life na the osu people come make sense pass the diala. Stop the discrimination.
ReplyDeleteits unfortunate that a lot of people on this blog have such low mentality. I am OSU , very normal and beautiful and doing very well. I got married to a non Osu for 10years now , with 3 beautiful and healthy children. we are happy and very comfortable and we have the support of both our families. I have some friends who make nasty comments about not marry an OSU and I tell them that then you shouldn't be friends with me becos I am one and I will not stand to be intimidated by no human whatsoever..............I am in every way better than half of the poor mentality , lowlifes who discriminate against their fellow humans.
ReplyDeleteZiZi darlyn pls don't Eva call urslf dat ur d image of God my kid sista also had dis same issue d so called guy she was dating went behind her back to make enq in my village and dey tell him OSU dis OSU dat he stopped calling my Sista only for him to call her afta some weeks accusing her of not telling him she was an OSU my Sista went berserk telling him Neva to tagg her to any rubbish cause she can't be called wot she doesn't know anything about my dear on d long wrong love conquers am gonna be 33 dis year and am believing God for a man dat will see past all dis bull shit and love me for me and not tagg any OSU rubbish to my name I need u to read Jeremiah 30:17#osucastesystemisbullshit#
Delete@eyejay.... thanks dear. Pls don't bother dating an ibo man cos they are the culprits of this discrimination. Focus your attention and love on the non ibos(they don't care about the so called myth). Your rightful hubby will find you in due time and you will be happy all others never worked!
DeleteWe don't even do Osu in my place
ReplyDeleteThere's always division somewhere and somehow. Reading through all of these didn't surprise me at all! Osu and freeborn... When will there be oneness anywhere in the world. Imagine my eastern people divided across something that is supposed to have been abolished.
ReplyDeleteSTELLA'S GOT A NEW FAN!
What of ume caste? Was shocked when I heard of it. They say those were taken to be lower than Osu. That they r always sick and die. Mordern studies have shown that it was Probably SS genotype that couldn't be explained in those days and since they married themselves they kept on dying. Can anyone explain further?
ReplyDeleteMy Anty was sent out of home after so many years of marriage wit her children, because she husbands family didn't ask/check her background cos her brother is very rich,na only money dem dey see then and she was smart/lucky (so she tot) but one day it happened and her marriage ended. But then again I expected the husbands people to return all they benefited from the marriage, like dia huz in the village and city, MIL bussiness.Sisters inlaw tutions and cars, d foolish horseband business and contacts, but No, he held unto them but rejected the fruits of his groin. My dear let's call a spade a spade, for every man or woman u hv had s*x or bussiness deals wit, bought or sold to, sat in d pub, or classroom/church/market, shaked, hugged (being in contact with) dat is an Osu,u have lost ur freeborn rights. our fore father ostracized US,made it clear never buy or sell to them.but no, long throat won't allow you,(hypocrites) so u and ur free born ass Shud do same. Am engaged to one and happy cos I dnt have to look over my shoulders like my aunt did.
ReplyDeleteMy dear its if u decide to let old nonsense stop u. It you want to marry an osu, go for deliverance first esp if u are Christians. So Becos he is an osu, he doesn't deserve happiness Abi?....Mxw. later Nigerians want to move forward. I dy wait
ReplyDeleteNah waaaaaaa.....My igwe once abolished it in my village and the people asked him to set an example by his son or daughter marrying one......Hmmmmmm name so Okpoko Oba run for emmmm life...He said NO.....The truth is thus••••give Ceaser Wat belongs to him&God Wat belongs to Him......Life is DEEPER than we know.....I can't and will never marry an OSU....call a spade a spade&stop painting BLUE PINK
