The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has urged Abians to support the fight against Corruption in the State.
The Governor spoke at the Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, while declaring open a one day Abia State Anti-Corruption summit tagged "Transparency and Accountability ; A Panacea to Good Governance And Sustainable Development".
He argued that the major problem of various governments is lack of faith from the people. He therefore stated that through his transparent and accountable leadership, Abia populace is beginning to believe in the govt.
Governor Ikpeazu pointed that Abia had already keyed into the Anti-Corruption agenda of the President Buhari led administration.
He therefore thanked ICPC for finding the State worthy to pilot the Anti-Corruption initiative in the State.
Dr. Ikpeazu acknowledged that the Government of Abia had acquired instruments that will make it easier to make sure all funds are accounted for.
Earlier, the Chairman of ICPC Barr Ekpo Nta emphasized on the need to curb corruption especially in the government circle. He urged workers to always make information available for proper monitoring. He decried the rate of ghost workers in some states and therefore appreciated the State for her efforts at weeding ghost workers.
The unveiling of the Anti-Corruption campaign in Abia " I support the fight against Corruption in Abia State" was the high point of the event.
The summit featured an interactive session with questions and answers from participants.
ICPC Chairman Barr Ekpo Nta, Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, the Abia State Attorney General Mr. Umeh Kalu SAN, State Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries etc were in attendance.
