Dear Constituents, Lagosians and Nigerians, we all know undoubtedly that 2016 hasn't been without its challenges. However, all thanks to God for the things we were able to achieve during the year.
In the area of land transportation we have been able to record some successes in the year 2016. First was the passage of the Nigerian railway bill, which is expected to open up our railway sector for private sector participation in a bid to create an enabling environment to revamp the railway sector. This is vital in no small measure to our economy.
We are also working on other sector-important bills such as the National Transport Commission Bill and the Nigerian Labour Transportation Bill.
Another achievement just to mention a few was the flagging off of the Abuja to Kaduna railway, which will make transportation of persons and goods from Kaduna to Abuja cheaper and easier.
Ladies and gentlemen, as we go into the New Year, don’t despair. I strongly believe that it is in challenging times like these in the course of human history that people have been forced out of their comfort zones, to create new economies, new opportunities and enhance the course of modern civilization.
In 2017, we cannot despair. Rather we must keep faith with the Muhamadu Buhari led administration of Change. While we must continue to constructively challenge the Government to do better, the citizenry must also play its part by remaining law abiding, creative, positive and industrious.
It is my belief that, if we can play our part by keeping our oil installations safe from bunkery and other acts of sabotage, our farmers and members of the business community safe from kidnapping, our cattle safe from rustling and our cities free of crime, we would see more clearly the dividends of the proposed N7.3 Trillion 2017 Budget when passed into law. Creating a conducive environment for development can only be achieved when the Government and the governed uphold their part of the social contract.
I therefore urge Nigerians to remain patient and focused as we enter the new year knowing that that the government is committed to improving the standard of living of Nigerians and is working assiduously to improve the economy.
I wish you all a more prosperous, industrious and successful year 2017.
