President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday ordered the Ministry of Finance to pay the Super Falcons their entitlements.
The Falcons, who beat hosts Cameroon 1-0 to win the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Yaounde on December 3, were forced to embark on protest in Abuja after the Nigeria Football Federation failed to pay them their bonuses and allowances. The eighth time African champions marched on the Presidential Villa on Wednesday to press home their demands.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, told State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa that Buhari had directed the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung, to ensure that the players were paid today.
Kyari, who just returned from a medical trip abroad said, he had conveyed the president’s directive to the players, who staged a protest to the gate of the Presidential Villa earlier on Wednesday.
He said, “The problem has been resolved. The players did us proud. I congratulated them on the feat they achieved.

ReplyDeleteThis is what I've been expecting from the President! These athletes deserved to be paid their entitlement.
ReplyDeleteI have been following this issue, and I was waiting for how the President will use his veto of power to order the ministry incharge to pay the athletes their various allowances and bonuses.
Atleast, the President has done well in this case. I pity most of the players though, especially those ones that has not been opportune to be signed to a club. I hope their career has not be jeopardized by those wicked minister and their cohorts.
Good one Mr. President.
It's veto power, not veto of power.
DeleteNigeria is a useless place. Did they have to protest for the president to realise they had to be paid.

This is what this govern stands for. there are ways things has to be done properly. President needed to order to pay them for their Allowances after these girls put their lives and careers at risk, playing for their fatherland. Make I no begin vent this morning, too early.
ReplyDeleteI am happy for the women. Thank God. Women are really strong, they know how to get things done.
ReplyDeleteThey have to carry placards before this incompetent government can do the right thing. So shameless, wicked and heartless fools. With that cowbrain of red barret man that anytime he opens his smelling mouth to talk, he vomits nonsense.
ReplyDeleteThank God it yielded results, but do we have to always take this route. Oya federal workers who are being owed; carry your placard and protest. He has just increased legislators budget from 70% to 100%. Chi buo anu ozo.
ReplyDeleteDoing d right thing at d wrong time......high level of irresponsibility
ReplyDeleteSo these gals had to protest before they are paid what they are entitled? So sad
