GYNAECOLOGICAL ENDOSCOPY
There are various types of endoscopy procedures. However the ones commonly used in gynecological cases are the laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
Laparoscopy: is a minimally invasive procedure (also called keyhole surgery). It is a modern surgical technique in which operations are performed far from their locations through small incisions elsewhere in the body. It is used to find and treat problems such as cysts, adhesions, fibroids and endometriosis. Tissue samples can be taken for biopsy through the tube (laparoscope).
Hysteroscopy: is the inspection of the uterine cavity by endoscopy with access through the cervix. It involves the passage of a telescope through the vagina and cervix into the uterine cavity. Uses of hysteroscopy include - Removal of endometrial or cervical polyps, Removal of fibroids, Removal of intrauterine adhesions (scarring), Endometrial ablation, treatment of irregular or heavy menstrual bleeding among others
Advantages Of Endoscopic Gynaecological Surgery
The recovery from endoscopic surgery is faster than in classic surgery and patients quickly return to daily living after the operation usually same day discharge.
Post-operative infections are less probable and side-effects are almost non-existent
