Ogun Bans Auxiliary Nurses From Running Health Facilities

The Ogun Government on Wednesday banned auxiliary nurses from running health facilities across the state, saying they lack the required expertise to do so.

Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, Commissioner for Health, announced this during a tour of health facilities in Abeokuta South and Odeda local government areas of the state.

Ipaye said the exercise was to ensure compliance with registration and re-validation of private health facilities.

He said the ban became necessary to guide against quackery and lack of professionalism in the health sector.

“This present administration will no longer condone activities of quacks, as they endanger the lives of citizens.

“Eight private health facilities have been shut down in Abeokuta South and Odeda local government areas.

“This is in addition to the 58 earlier shut down for not meeting up with the deadline for re-validation and registration of their facilities issued by the State Ministry of Health since January 2016”, he said.

  3. Ahhhh, stella this your comment na wahala you don come give doctors o. The way quack Nurses will come here now and attack doctors will shock you.
The truth is that those auxiliary nurses (ELIZA NURSES) should be banned across the federation because these are people without O level certificates. No form of professional training, no Uni or polytechnic degree, nothing at all. Most of them cannot read and write properly but they are so content with the quackery they practice and won't even go for updates or any form of academic training to improve themselves. There is no regulatory body for them so they feel untop of the world. Some of them even open private maternity homes and don't even know at what point to refer a patient for proper professional intervention. It is so so crazy, they don't even know their limits, they always want to prove a point, it might shock you guys to know that these quacks that doesn't even have the basic knowledge of drugs have also taken over the jobs of Pharmacists, they even go ahead to give someone spinal anaesthesia and almost attempted a C/S that would have ended the life of a mother and triplets. I saw hell when I was working in Lagos.

    1. As in eh, the worst part is that its doctors that train them in their private hospitals..... They will keep saying they are training them because they can pay the salary of qualified nurses. Its best if they stop all these. These people do more harm than Good. I remember the case of one that tried doing circumcision and almost cut off a child's penis . Another one gave an injection that left someone paralyzed. Good one Mr Governor. God bless you.

  18. There's a difference between a nurse and an auxiliary nurse.... Nurses go through training... From schools of nursing down to universities and they end up taking the nursing and midwifery council exams if they pass it... They become qualified nurses (RN). But quacks/auxiliaries aren't trained. The highest they do is stay 6months at a hospital and one private hospital will give them one certificate which is very wrong. These people forget that they are training people who may someday kill others . I remember talking with a Dr one day, and he said he trains Nurses... I simply told him.. He cant train a nurse.... He's training a quack. He said most times, Drs train them in their privates hospitals because they cannot afford to pay qualified nurses... Quacks are cheaper for them. These are some of the problems the health sector is facing and NANNM has refused to look into it. Please, before you let any nurse treat you, ask for their licence. Its small and handy and alot ofnus carry it about. Thumbs up to the Ogun state governor. God bless you.

    1. Anon 12:13, calm down! You must find a way to rope doctors into your quack Elizabeth. The commissioner for healt "who is a DOCtOR" initiated the concept and put it forward for the govt to approve the ban.
Should I also bring to your notice that your so called registered nurses who call themselves "nurse Anaesthetics" are also anaesthetic Eliza nurses! What is the difference between an auxiliary Chief Eliza Nurse and you trained nurses "now claiming to be Anaesthetists? What qualifies you as an anaesthetist? Do you have an MBBS? Or done residency in anaesthesia after medical school? So, pls! Calm down and take corrections. Your mates also run maternity clinics.
The male registered nurses always claim to be doctors because suddenly they remember that they have PENIS and therefore must be the DOCTOR.

      Delete
    2. Tell them to stop your male nurses from impersonating doctors. They find it difficult working with female doctors because of superiority complex.

      Delete
    3. Anon 13:37... Aww... I wish you had taken a minute to google the word "nurse anaesthetist". It would have saved you this display of ignorance. Please , google it ,let Google school you. In case you don't know, you musnt have an MBBS before you can give anaesthesia. So your only palava is MBBS... And not the lives lost ? Wow!.
anon 13:41, you are very right. That should be curbed too. Its very wrong to impersonate others. Superiority complex? My dear, they have inferiority complex in disguise.

      Delete
    4. Anon 12:13, calm your titties down and google the word nurse anaesthetist. Stop this display of ignorance. MBBS isn't the issue here hun. I've seen so many incompetent people with MBBS.
Anon13:41,that should be curbed too. A penalty is in order. They have inferiority complex in disguise

    5. Shut your throats!!! Have you googled auxiliary nursing? Or you think Auxillary nurses don't exist in google? Google, Google, Google, because it now concerns your Eliza nurse anaesthetists ( where do you acquire M.Sc programme for nurses in anaesthesia in Nigeria?) is it not the same way Eliza Nurses train as auxiliary nurses that The so called Nurse anaesthetists are trained too, just by hovering around doctors to learn how to chook needle into the spine.
Once they mentioned auxiliary nurses, you all brought nail and hammer, once nurse anaesthetist is mentioned you suddenly remembered google.
All you idiots in Nigeria forming Nurse anaesthetists are ELIZA/QUACKS/Doctor wanna be. Why don't you go ahead and list the qualifications required? You decided to jump that part cos you know they all "LEARN" in hospitals like the auxiliary nurses.
How come you jumped your male colleagues that pretend to be doctors because of the penile factor?
Concerning anaesthesia in Nigeria, only Doctors are qualified anaesthetists. All those your quack nurses are NOT qualified and I hope you know they have no licence /authorisation to practice here. They were trained because of shortage of staff during the war and if you read that your google well, they were initiated during wars when work force is reduced and only allowed to use local anaesthesia on minor injuries not to go into full blown surgeries like you lot do in Nigeria killing innocent people. Mind you, they have been banned from practice from most parts of the world except primitive places like Nigeria where you re given a licence to do one thing and you end up doing a 100 out of greed. Some of those Auxillary nurses are even better than you all crying wolf here.

  19. Thank God for that, that is how I lost my first child to one of this Nurses. But na me open my eyes go rubbish hospital. May the Lord forgive us all and rest in peace my rainbow baby.

  20. But we have PSW here in America and same is known as Auxiliary Nurse in Nigerian parlance. They do not need to ban them but rather they should control them as to give them proper definition of their job description.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Don't mind those Registered nurses, they are busy defending nurse anaesthetists when all of them are trained the same way auxiliaries are trained. Doctors should not train Auxiliary nurses but they should train nurse anaesthetists. Nonsense. What about nurses that go and open their own hospitals, I know many of them and hey still employ auxiliary nurses to work for them (cheap labour). The problem with the health sector is not with auxiliary nurses, the problem is the basic greed, pride, ego, inferiority complex and people wanting to be who they are not without going thru proper academic process. Everyone in the medical field wants to be in charge. You all learn to concentrate on your field, know your limits and stop encroaching into places not designated for you.
