ReplyDeleteSo, people dream of that? I have got nothing but disdain for formal education especially at the university level.
ReplyDeleteThe average Nigerian goes to the university to belong in the class of the 'educated'and make avail the right tools to be ostentatious.
If my parents hadn't been so bent on all of their kids being graduates, I never would have wasted 5 years of my life on something as silly as a university education.
I left school years ago, I have never applied for a job, my certificate is in a box somewhere and now, running the business I had told my parents to use my college fund to set up for me, years ago. it's doing well but imagine if I had started it all those years ago when the economy was friendlier.
Female...entrepreneur...proud.

DeleteWaoh!
DeleteI quite agree with you. My own opinion has always been that, I probably wouldn't have studied a professional course, but for my parents. 6 years+ 1yr service all for what? I have also realised tho, that the formal education usually brings a difference to whatever you decide to do eventually. If you hadn't gone through university education, your command of the English language may not have been so sound, especially in a country like Nigeria where the standard of secondary education has so fallen. Whatever knowledge you acquire at the tertiary level never really goes to waste in the long run. There is always a difference between a graduate who decides to go into fashion designing and the one who just learnt the whole thing after sec school.
DeleteCongrats girl. Husband you will find. Job? I don't know.

DeleteThe typical naija gal mission after graduation-job and husband, hmmm.Naija men will keep believing they are doing us a favour even when we are adding value to their lives all just because they know we see having them as an accomplishment in living a fulfilled life.yes, its good to have a husband but my dear,it is not in ur place to find one, be found, meanwhile continuing developing yourself because men can fail you

Its people like you who make things sound so gloomy.
