Nigerian Nanny Charged After Child In Her Care Dies

A Maryland nanny has been charged in the asphyxiation death of an 8-month-old baby girl in her care, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.

The baby, 8-month-old Enita Salubi of Glenarden was in the sole care and custody of her nanny, 66-year-old Oluremi Oyindasola when she was rushed to a hospital Monday afternoon after becoming unresponsive at home, police said.

Shortly after arriving to the hospital, the baby girl was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed her cause of death was asphyxiation, and the manner of death was homicide, according to officials.
On Wednesday, police said Oluremi is in custody. She is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, and related charges, according to officials. She is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

    2. Unfortunately this is how yoruba women feed their babies, I see them doing this on a daily basis and I get irritated, I've warned my mum not to try this with my kids o, I won't take such rubbish, even the ones they do while bathing, throwing the baby up and down, jeez!

Btw im Yoruba before you all will start screaming tribalist

    3. Some babies are hard headed. If you like hold my sons nose from morning till night he won't open his mouth, even if he does he will clench his teeth.. lol
I was so inexperienced when I gave birth to my baby a lot of people offered to help bath n feed him, I refused God forbid! even when my folks came, I literally stood on their heads and ensured they didn't bring naija style to my house..

I hope grandma is released cause she def meant no harm..God save herπŸ™πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½

    3. I have penned her name down and I will keep interceding on her behalf until her release. I pray the victims parents withdraw the case.
Poor woman, God should please show her mercy.
I just don't know why this story hurts me so much.
We take our freedom for granted.

    4. Even if the kids parents wanted to withdraw the case, there is no way to withdraw this case. It's the state against the defendant. For Gods sake someone died here. She will surely go to trial.

It's just ridiculous to force feed a child. If your child refuses food, leave the child to get really hungry and the child will eat. A child will not starve itself. My daughter has gone a whole day without eating and after that day she eats Like a horse. If you try every thing and your child still won't eat then see a paediatricIan.

This is a mistake she will have to pay for unfortunately. She is unlikely to get a long sentence if she has a good lawyer. God help her.

    5. It'll be another issue of she isn't a licensed nanny. She prolly went to the U.S to do omugwo for her own children and decided to earn an extra income by baby sitting for others. I hope this isn't the case cos she'll put her people in trouble too. So sad

  32. @anon 13:28 If you know anything about force feeding you would know that the food won't go in through the tiny holes on the bottle tip which made her rip it off.
This actually got to me because i am guilty of this...though mine is drugs not food. I did it when my son was ill and refused taking his drugs, I couldn't find his medicine drops abi na dropper and he was really sick so i felt it was the right way. I did it twice and then i discovered a new method (pressing his mouth open). seeing this now shows me that the two times I tried it was twice too many. forgive me my darling, I won't ever do it again. RIP little one.

    1. The alternative is to give the child as much as he would take and let him be. When he's hungry, he would eat. Then breastfeed for up to 24 months if you can. If the child is not taking food, you can at least be sure then breastmilk in his tummy.

  35. It's unfortunate the baby died,i hate that way of feeding babies or giving them drugs.every tribe does it both yoruba, igbo, hausa etc it's nt a good way nd i never did that to my kids bcos it scares me d baby might suffocate.its an eye opener sha

    ReplyDelete
  36. My method as a mother was to be patient nd feed gradually even if it's medicine.we shouldn't hurry when talking care of children they re so delicate nd can be irritating.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well. What can one say, pretty sure she couldn't have meant direct harm. That is where she works, and that's her means of livelihood too. She probably has a family she is raising too. To the parents of the child, one can only commiserate with them as it is an avoidable loss. To us all, may no unpleasant accident or circumstance come our path.
