Few months after the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, sent a religious bill to the State House of Assembly to control and in effect, ban church worship and evangelism in the state, the Rivers State Government has warned pastors against generating unnecessary noise in public places.
Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike gave this warning through his Special Adviser on Pollution Control, Mr. Nwuke Anucha.
While speaking in Port Harcourt, the state capital, during a pollution control and religious matters meeting with members of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Port Harcourt branch, the SA said the noise churches produce in Port Harcourt was becoming alarming.
He expressed concern that the noise produced by sound systems used by churches was causing unrest in the state, stressing that no responsible government would not take steps to reduce the menace.
Anucha said, “My lords, you will agree with me that the emission of gaseous substance, the sound level of our electric power generation sets and indeed the noise generated by the use of loud speakers in some of our worship centers in no doubt cause serious disorder to human co-existence.
“It is on this premise of good neighborliness that necessitated this meeting. The public outcry about the noise and air pollution generated by some of our churches is so alarming that no responsible and responsive government will shy away from taking necessary actions.
“Churches need to cut down the use of loud speakers with a sound level not above the recommended decibel outside and inside.
Nigerian bulletin
Specially those weekly programmes, they can operate with a low sound system order than making it too loud when it's not sunday.
ReplyDeleteThis has always been an issue. And I think it's unfair to everyone who lives around such churches. Even in lagos, morning afternoon and night, na so so noise. Can be annoying
DeleteThe Bible said "touch not my Anointed and do my prophet no harm".
DeleteSo I leave their matter with God.
But truth be told, there are some churches you will be passing on you will be hearing the speakers sounding like helicopter engine, but when you look inside you will notice that it is only five people shouting for multitude of igwe mmadu.
Anyway, it is well, even inside well
Lol

Talk about d ones with bad speakers n mic. Very annoying something.
DeleteDem night vigil programs nko?
DeleteCan't believe you guys are only complaining of Christians and not Muslims. I weep for Nigeria

ReplyDeleteBetter said, they get out of hand sometimes. Nigeria churches and noise
ReplyDeleteWhat about those mosque that start making noise very early in the morning?churches too, should use speakers enough for the people in the compound not Passers by
DeleteOK now.
ReplyDeleteWaiting for Apostle Sulieman
ReplyDeleteIs that a mockery or some kind of foolish display? Are you too stupid to differentiate between Wike and hellrufia'a speech??
DeleteYou and Osibajo is the reason i regret following my hubby to uka ndi Yoruba(RCCG). Christians na onu! Ndi soro okwu onum esona omumem
Wike is fair on this so don't wait on suleman
DeleteLol. I'm sure he will have something to say about it.
DeleteFan Emma why are you always insuting people up and down when ever they state their opinion are you that uncultured that you can't tame your mouth?
DeleteFan Emmanuel why?
DeleteFan Emmanuel haff vex finish .... 😂😄😀😊
DeleteLafresh, it's not every1 that likes Johnson Suleiman but your hatred for him is on another level. He's not the 'causer' of poverty in Auchi abeg
DeleteWho let the dog out? Dr Grace my vet dr friend àbeg come to our rescue.
DeleteI don't blame you sha. Its only on SDK you get info. Go and read El-rufai's religion bill and get back to me lets talk like educated humans.
Jasmine, where's the hatred in my comment biko?
DeleteWaiting for what Apostle will say because he said something about El-rufai is now hatred? Na wa o
Tge last time i checked, Auchi people home and abroad are doing very well. I'm proud to be associated with them. It's only on papers that people get to know I'm not from that town.
Fan Emmanuel fits properly in2 d definition of a Stupid person. Wat hs Swag said dt is wrong now? El rufai proposed d same notion, he ws tagged as anti-christian bt Wike now is correct 2 do d same shey! Dirty village girl lik u frm d east trying to form 'tush' in Lagos.
DeleteWell I don't no what to say.whether to support him or not,God no d best
ReplyDeleteThe Governor's right. Imagine a church with just ten congregations but mount a powerful public address system outside to disturb the neighborhood. That nonsense must stop.
ReplyDeleteThe sound level should be controlled. You can't be hearing a sound from choba wen you dey eleme.
ReplyDeleteToo much of everything is buhari
😂 😂 😂.. U be case o
DeleteLagos too. they disturb our sleep as early as 5am with loud sound system all in the name of preaching.
ReplyDeleteIt's more annoying when they wake kids up that should be sleeping. Then when they see you rushing for work, they begin to preach about fornication, adultery and going to hell fire (like say all babes na prostitutes)
One lord chosen man go just come the next street and my window face the street. Talking about wearing trousers, fixing weaves and fornication.
DeleteI totally understand you, that was how I entered a danfo in Lagos, immediately I sat down, the preacher started saying wearing trousers and make up will make somborri go to hell
DeleteAnd begin 2 pure siliva all over ur face with breath like pit toilets.
DeleteMtweeeeeeeeeewwwww
I once lived near a church I didn't use to sleep, it was too bad
ReplyDeleteOga rest, this the problem with dum ass Christians, can u compare d noise speakers outside mosques make bt u wil nt hear northern governors complaining
ReplyDeleteOh please! D difference is obvious. They mainly pray n recite plus they spend barely an hour doing that but churches will deaf u with praise n worship 1st 4 like 2hrs. Then preaching which sometimes b like quarrel n worse is some start as early as 7 n end by 5pm. Biko rest.
DeleteAbegi. The difference is not obvious.
DeleteMuslims r now becoming annoying with their own. As early as 4am, they will start their own and won't let sum1 sleep.
Very good, they will make you attend all their programs with their noise, even night vigil I will be awake waiting for them to finish before I sleep, anytime I come back from work and hear them I feel like going back
ReplyDeleteIt will be better especially Lord's Chosen people. Always disturbing your beautiful sleep early morning.
ReplyDeleteWike try and control thieves & kidnapping too. They are too much in that your god forsaken state.
Lord chosen own na something else. So annoying.
DeleteYou just had to insult the state and join, well you only ended up sounding like a god forsaken somborri
DeleteSound system should not be a concern oooh, when kidnapping is the order of the day on rivers state, maybe that's why they need to drum it into their ears to repent the kingdom of God is at hand.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if any pastor would issue a warning and death threat to Wike...
ReplyDeleteMechie onu nsi gi dia,onokwu!
DeleteAt least he gave out a warning note, not carrying out devilish order like that of hellrufai.
Not only churches...all those shops that sell CDs and DVDs, theirs is even worse. I have a friend that has a hair salon, all the shops surrounding her's sell CDs and DVDs and they place their speakers in front of their shops, the noise in fact is on a different level
ReplyDeleteYou know this!
DeleteSo annoying! I always wondered why they have to make it sooo loud! Since u can virtually hear the noise they call music three streets away!
Hahahaha my dear those ones are killing.
DeleteThey should take a lead from catholic churches
DeleteAbuja should do something about this noice too, especially their weekly programs, 6am church will wake u up with speaker. Why do they use speakers for vigil self. My sister has 4 churches on her street, U'll see one with just 4ppl inside and they'll be using very loud speakers.
ReplyDeleteHe is right.... I grew up in ph.. Every angle na church. All na biz. Even the once way hunger wan kill dey go use that vex, send u packing with noise. This one way dey beside my house for Abuja here... Hmm. I no dey fit rest... After I Don pay dix kin huge moni 4 rent. The day my cousin came 2 my place... The first thing she said was... That this noise they remind her of ph.... I neva knw the kin sound system dem dey use sef weda e no gt filter... And the place an no b even their building. If them com dismiss eeh... Den go use 6hrs stand outside 4 rd dey speak Yoruba... Dey Mk noise say dem dey talk. This kin disturbance in Wuse... Hmm...
ReplyDeletehe want to become second E-rufi abi? no body is hearing his voice in kaduna again.
ReplyDeleteIn as much as I support this reduction of sound from churches,Muslims too need caution.Their early morning prayer can dustrub and they mount the speakers outside their mosques. Developed countries don't even have churches around resident areas
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...is dat d main issue affecting d state now?
ReplyDeletePlus the one inside d church can crack ur eardrums.
ReplyDeleteThis warning should extend to delta state esp Warri.
ReplyDeleteIts abt time. Some churches can disturb! The binding and casting no b here...it infuriates me. I remember the day I spent d night in a frnd's place...twas horrible... The church beside them kept on binding nd casting and shouting.... At a point I got scared whether d evil spirit go run enter my body....twas horrible.
ReplyDeleteHahahahhahahaha
DeleteYou don't mean it!
DeleteBinding and casting infuriates you? Are you sure you're not possessed?
Nne,you need prayers. And while at it,make sure you add small fasting cause your own kind of demon is not ordinary. Obiara to destroy you
Fan Emmanuel just shut up you animal of a woman!
DeleteAnonymous kpokwaa nne gi animal.
DeleteUnu wu umu azi this days enwerozi respect! Nkita ala
Fan Emmanuel u don't need to insult, if u stay abroad nd preach inside a bus, u would see d reactions, the noise produced in churches can be disturbing, doesn't mean anyone is possessed, imagine u r going to work d next day nd a church close by makes noise till d next day nd u can't sleep
Delete@fan Emmanuel, y won't binding and casting infuriate me. Am I their church member? All I wanted was to sleep!! Nne, carry ur wahala out of my way jare...even if I get demon inside, is it ur demon?
DeleteWike, the earth is the creation of God and nobody has the right to stop people from worshiping him. Until the creator (God)says the noise is too much then the church can reduce their noise. for now "praise thy Lord"!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSee this dummy. Who is stopping them from worshiping God. They said reduce the sound system. You cant be trying to sleep after a hsrds day job and come meet noice. My aunty gave birth and was bk home only for her to not get sleep and d baby. She had to move to her parents house for some weeks. Its top much. Christianity is not madness.
DeleteHallelujah!!!!
DeleteSee this dummy. Who is stopping them from worshiping God. They said reduce the sound system. You cant be trying to sleep after a hsrds day job and come meet noice. Deleteignorance is a disease in this our modern age my dear.
DeleteYou just don't get it. Nobody is saying you shouldn't praise God but be sensible about it. Wisdom is profitable to direct
DeleteYes
DeleteThe Earth is the Lord's and it's fullness thereof
People should be free to worship anyhow they like and please too.. They are worshiping the most high, if you have the feared and the love of God in you, you wouldn't even think of saying such Smh
You want to regulate the way people worship God, maybe if God tries to regulate the way he blesses you or how he loves and cares for you... Ungrateful lots
Moreover when people worship they are in the spirit and it's the spirit that leads
Soon they would tell Christians to stop worshiping at all
Are you serious?
DeleteAbeg, God is not an author of confusion and he is not deaf either, the churches can evangelize and conduct their service in moderation. Please let's stop constituting nuisance in God's name.
DeleteJames Ade. What are you saying here ? You can't be serious with what you wrote up there man.
DeleteIgnorance can turn one into bondage, he is not shutting down churches, he just said don't turn yourselves into a nuisance. Assuming you have someone having b.p issues and the doctor's recommendation is no noise, would you still say what you just said?.my own is just opposite the church, once they start, our parlour will start vibrating and the most annoying is that most times,it's just a gathering of four or five. The pastor will just put his specially magnified speaker close to his mouth and be shouting as if his is fighting. God help Abians.
DeleteHonestly
ReplyDeleteProper measures should be put in place to curtail their activities
It's getting out of hand
Alleluiaoooooooooooooooooo.funny 😁
ReplyDeleteHmm. Let's see.
ReplyDeleteIt has more to do with city/town planning than warnings. If places of worship are not sited in residential areas and building specifications are made for sound proofing etc. I dont see how this would be a problem. We are there fighting out pastors in the south while in the north they doing the same. Be wise......Meanwhile others totally block major roads in the south in the name of worship.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha!!! They will block major road to carry out prayer. It's so annoying. Ha!
DeleteLwkmd, gov wike's warning reminds me of when my mom traveled to Calabar for a confrence and beside the hotel they were loudged was a church that was holding their night vigil, and they started shouting FIREEE,, DIEEEE BURNNN, naso all of dem as the JJC's dat they were fled and were all looking for their sqaure root o cuz that was their first time of hearing such and according to her it was lyk d pple were actually inside the rooms with them cuz it was very loud, until the hotel management manage to calm them down and explain to them its a night vigil.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of one of our priest that always warn congregations and pious societies to always make sure telephone sound should not be heard outside the church. I think he made a point.
ReplyDeleteNoise pollution is a big issue in Nigeria, churches , mosque, CDs sellers, you don't have such noise coming from Catholic, Anglican and Methodist Churches
ReplyDeleteU say? Anglicans yaff joined them o.
Deletewell I think they should include all religious houses so as to make it fair, also clubs, bars, cd/DVD houses should be included... anyone that owns or plans to own any of the mentioned center should be able to soundproof the building so the noise don't go out... I remember following my uncle to a church program and the noise in form of music almost blinded us mind u I didn't use deafened because am sure I didn't hear anything 2-3minutes after coming out of the church..
ReplyDeleteGovernor el rufai, banneb allegedly, public worship and not noise pollution from public worship, evangelism and not noise pollution from public evangelism. Christian southerners should contribute and buy buses to convey them to the south every Sunday and back for church activities while xhristsin northerners should convert to Islam ASAP.
ReplyDeleteGovernor wine is banni g noise pollution from church programmes now not because it's not nessesarily a bad move but because his brother governor is doing something about Christian worship and he has to show that he should remain in the good books of the owners of the country. Aterall waking people up by force by five pm everyday with prayer cries and loud mics isn't noise pollution
@aroma.. no body is restricting worshippers to do so, just telling them the right way of doing it, there are two churches close to my mum house and trust me its not funny when these guys start because they try to outdo themselves to prove that one has a better equipment..
ReplyDeleteThere is one in oke-iran Labora abijo gra every 5am to 7am for more than 3 months now always shouting and disturbing n they are just 6-8 inaide
ReplyDeleteMehhhn,we have about 5 churches beside us.The noise no be here ooh
ReplyDeleteGood!
ReplyDeleteWaiting for him to set up a task force on that.
The menace should be curtialed.
Thank you Gov. Wike
