The United Kingdom National Crimes Agency, NCA, has charged former Nigerian Super Eagles’ World Cup star, Efetobore Sodje and his brothers with fraud-related offences.
Efetobore Sodje, 34, Bright Sodje, 50, Samuel Sodje, 37, and Stephen Sodje, 42, were arrested on July 13 2014 after a three-year investigation by the agency into allegations of irregularities involving the Sodje Sports Foundation registered on March 1, 2010 and disbanded on January 2015.
NCA charged the former Super Eagles star and his brothers with fraudulent trading on Friday, 21 October, and are bailed.
They are expected to appear before a Westminster Magistrate Court on 14 November 2016.
The agency accused the brothers of using the foundation meant for charity for unrelated purposes.
Efetobore, born in England, played for Super Eagles at the 2000 African Cup of Nations, and the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
The foundation was supposedly aimed at relieving poverty, advance good health in people through the provision of facilities in playing amateur sports and the promotion of lifelong learning, leadership skills and health issues such as HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, and nutrition.
