A Kobe Steel USA bookkeeper embezzled about $800,000 by writing checks to herself from the company — and used some of the sum to pay back money she owed New Jersey for a similar fraud, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Michiko Diaz, 57, a Japanese native, was ordered held on $400,000 bond in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday at her arraignment for grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument, criminal tax fraud and ordering a false instrument for filing.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa Zito said that between 2006 and 2012, Diaz, who had been convicted of ripping off a former employer in New Jersey, wrote 99 unauthorized checks from Kobe to herself — a con she kept going for years without detection.

"She deposited them into her own personal Bank of America bank account," Zito said at Diaz's arraignment. "With that she created false journal entries into the business records of Kobe Steel to cover up these checks."

Diaz owed about $80,000 in restitution to her former company and spent some of her Kobe stolen dough to pay it back, prosecutors said.

But she also used it to "pay for her daughter's wedding, her credit card bills" and other "personal expenses," the ADA said.

"She said the two most important words — not guilty," said Diaz's lawyer Glenn Hardy outside the courtroom. "We'll be investigating the case."

Her current charges related only to 2011 and 2012 due to the statute of limitations.

Kobe Steel's New York headquarters is on Madison Ave. at W. 53rd St.

Diaz has lived in New Jersey for the past 15 years, her attorney said.
