Robbers attack CBN bullion vans on Jos-Abuja road

A convoy of bullion vans belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria has been attacked by alleged armed robbers who disguised as military men at Hawan Kibo along Jos–Abuja road.

Two mobile policemen were killed; one of the officers was identified as Sgt. Anthony Jawa, from Mobile Police Squad (MOPOL) 8, Jos.

The CBN bullion van and their entourage of armed mobile police escorts had left Jos in the early hours of Tuesday en-route Abuja.

It was reported that the incident happened immediately after a military check point, as the suspected armed robbers wearing military uniforms emerged from a bush and attacked a patrol team belonging to the Plateau State security outfit, “Operation Rainbow”, attached to Riyom local government, killing a mobile policeman on the spot.

The CBN convoy was reported to have run into the armed robbers who opened fire at them. The robbers engaged the escort in a shootout, leading to the death of the second mobile policeman, who was in the CBN convoy.
According to a Punch report, Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, confirmed the incident but he was yet to receive the full report from the Riyom Divisional Police station.

He said, “Some policemen were killed, but did not know the number.

“The CBN bullion vans and escort are at the Federal Road Safety office in Riyom.”
