A 32-year-old businessman, Ezekiel Igbokwe, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife’s lover, Victor Olatundun.
Igbokwe was said to have killed Olatundun after he caught him having sex with his wife on their matrimonial home.
The suspect allegedly committed the offence at about 12am at Peace Lodge on Itura Street, Awa Ijebu, Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspect, who committed the crime on Wednesday, July 27, was arrested by the police the following day.
Igbokwe and his 28-year-old wife were among the 23 suspects paraded at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday, for various offences ranging from murder to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Igbokwe, who said he was a businessman, explained that he had returned from his trip to Onitsha and met Victor on top of his wife on their matrimonial bed.
He said he picked a machete in the toilet and cut the victim in the neck and hand.
Olatundun reportedly died on the way to the hospital.
Igbokwe, who deals in electronics, said he was born in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.
He said, “I travelled to Onitsha on July 25, and when I came back on July 27, I met a man inside my room making love to my wife. Then we started fighting.
The man was stronger than me. When I saw he could overpower me, I got a cutlass in my toilet and dealt him blows in the hand and neck. On the way to the hospital, the fuel in the car finished and he died.”
Igbokwe said he committed the crime due to anger, adding that he never meant to kill the victim.
He claimed that he had never met Olatundun before, saying he also never suspected that his wife was having an extra-marital affair with anyone.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Igbokwe and his wife, Juliet, have three children aged nine, seven and five.
Juliet, who sobbed intermittently, said her alleged lover had been pressurising her for a relationship for some time.
She explained that she had always told him she was married, but the victim never gave up until he ended up at their matrimonial home on that night.
Juliet, who said she sold snuff, said Victor was her supplier and he pestered her for six months before she finally gave in.
She said she suspected that the deceased used a charm on her, as she could not explain how it all happened.
She said, “He had been disturbing me that he wanted to marry me, but I said I was married.
“On the day of the incident, I really can’t say if he used a charm on me. All I know is that he called me that he wanted to see me and I told him not to come; he knew my house and when he came, I didn’t know what happened.
“He used to come and deliver snuff to me in the house. On the day of the incident, he told me he was coming from somewhere and that it was already late. He wanted to sleep in our place till the next day. He didn’t know that my husband was away. He tried to sleep with me, but later he didn’t.”
Juliet, who claimed that she got married to her husband in 2005, said the husband did not take good care of her and the children.
She said their marriage had been turbulent and fraught with fights and quarrels.
The mother of three said each time there was a fight, her husband would leave the house for months.

*The woman is lying, she has been at this for a while, she should stop saying she was charmed, was it not on this blog some of you advised that BV to lie that the man she slept with used charm on her?
I dont see why she is handcuffed with the man though, adultery is a sin and not a crime, the man should face the law alone.
This is why it is always good to walk away when you run into your lover or spouse with someone else,WALK AWAY OOOOO.
Had this discussion with a colleague. Adultery is not a criminal offence except on the grounds of divorce.
ReplyDeleteSomething that a divorce can solve the man allowed his temper get the best of him. Now he'd go to jail while his wife will continue to sleep with or marry another man.
Too bad for him.
Control your temper at all times, there is always another way better than violence.
Sex has taken a lot of people 6ft down n more will follow suit
DeleteThis is a clear cut case. The woman has no crime to answer to. The man on the other hand should get a good lawyer, plead defence of provocation and Cikena he will be free of get some years for manslaughter. All in all Victor remains dead.
DeleteHe should get a good lawyer. The defence of provocation will avail him. Sande v. State
DeleteAdultery is not a criminal offence in the South, this is the ruling in the case of Aoko v Fagbemi. It is however a crime in the north and punishable under the Penal Code Law.
DeleteThe man should be set free. What he did was a result of the rage he felt at that moment. It wasn't premeditated murder.
DeleteThe penal code does not apply to a non Muslim @ Samantha, or it will be violating the constitutional right of freedom to religion and conscience. The constitution is the supreme law of the land. It trumps everyother law. A Christian will not be subject to a penal code.
DeleteAnon I'm just stating that it is a crime in some parts of the country, because Stella said "adultery is a sin not crime". I'm not referring to the case at hand.
DeleteWell, a case of manslaughter, no doubt. The wife keeps contradicting herself. First she said he called her to say he would spend the night at hers, then she said he didn't know her hubby was away? How could he on his own volition decide to go sleep jn a married woman's house just like that, if u hadn't told him ahead that the coast was clear? Liar liar.
DeleteThen she claimed she didn't know whether it was jazz. And finally she gave her reasons, that her hubby doesn't take care of her. Which of course is the main reason you've been committing adultery. In fact you gave the deceased the license to do what he did, that's why he was brave enough to confront ur hubby to a fight. When he should have run away when ur hubby caught u. Unfortunately he had to pay with his life. In his next life he won't try such. Now see how you've put ur hubby in a mess. It is the poor kids that'll suffer.
She should be freed though. Only her conscience can deal with her not the law. But she'll be a witness in court so they can prosecute her husband of manslaughter.
chai! na wa oh
ReplyDeleteWhy chain the woman with the man. They should free the woman to go attend to the home and kids.
DeleteYou are 32 and married since 2005 at 21, prick long throat. Two youngsters got married and expect money to fall from heaven. Una think say marriage na beans.
Nwokem Igbokwe get a good lawyer, after grammar in court , you go return home go call family meeting, make dem decide whether d marriage go continue. The man was caught in your matrimonial bed, na the man cause the reaction.
Asewo woman, make I see the face you go take face your in laws. Idiot
I'm sure she's been sleeping with other men in the neighbourhood. Make dem check well. Imagine the guts she had to invite a man to her matrimonial bed. Can't deal.
DeleteDs woman is such a liar, they ve been doin it a long time for d guy to even ve d guts to go to her martimonial home says it al.dt guy deserved wat he got infact her hubby shud ve also also disfigured her.
ReplyDeleteJust learnt that adultry is a sin and not a crime. Thank you Stella everyday na school.
ReplyDeleteAdultery is a crime in Northern Nigeria don't let Stella deceive you. It is however not a crime in Ogun State where the act took place, if that had happened in Kano for instance that woman will face criminal charges.
DeleteBut it didn't happen in Kano, so what's your point? The penal code is a statute subject to the Nigerian constitution. If any provision in that code is inconsistent with the provision of the constitution it becomes invalid. Are the states coordinate Or subordinate to the federal govt in Nigeria in law making?
DeleteMy point is spreading information simply because Stella said adultery is a sin not a crime. Oversabi Law student, I remember your type for class then... very vocal but gpa is 2.something maximum.
DeleteSamantha and your type is the first class brain but no God in practice. Onye ala. You think practice is about certificate? Yes I know the law. Penal code na nsi
DeleteWow! Self control is very important in this life. He really should have just walked but how easy is that.
ReplyDeleteHave some respect for your marriage pls if u must cheat do it in the hotel, bush, car or somewhere else pls not your matrimonial home & bed!

ReplyDeleteAnd to think I was almost believing d dead man used charms on her till she concoted the story of her hubby not taking care of their kids.
And on ur matrimonial bed???
Giving married women a bad name!
Not to condone what Ifeanyi did.He acted out of provocation. And I believe too he didn't mean to kill the wife thief. Clearly a Crime of Passion.
Wasn't premeditated. With a good lawyer,he might walk.
And I'd rather Ifeanyi killed the intruder than the intruder killing Ifeanyi.
Poor kids! I hope they Wil be fine.
We can help Ifeanyi get a good lawyer, so this guy doesn't suffer for nothing. To think he went to look for daily bread and met his wife in this adultery mess
DeleteWe can help Ifeanyi get a good lawyer, so this guy doesn't suffer for nothing. To think he went to look for daily bread and met his wife in this adultery mess
DeleteHmmm.. I don't see how he'll get away without serving jail term unfortunately.
DeleteAlthough he acted under provocation, undoubtedly. But he slit the man's throat and then proceeded to cut his hands. I think if a single strike is what killed him it would have been debatable. But with one too many, errrr.. it may not exonerate him of manslaughter. Yea with a good lawyer he'd prolly spend the minimum jail term. Perhaps 2years. See the woman's face. Mumu
Last I checked adultery while being legally married is punishable by certain number of years in jail, 7 , so?
ReplyDeleteSweetie, I believe you're mistaking adultery for bigamy. Adultery isn't a criminal offence in the States which use the criminal code but bigamy is a crime which carries a 7 year prison sentence.
DeleteJust for the sake of clarity, adultery is the sexual relationship between a married person and another person other than his/her spouse, either married as well or not. While bigamy is deliberately consumating another marriage while still legally married to another. Bigamy only comes into play where a couple marries in accordance with the Marriage Act and Matrimonial causes law, i.e Marriage at the Registry or a Church wedding in a church authorised by Law to wed couples and issue Marriage certificates.
If you marry under the native law and custom, i.e traditional marriage only, the husband is free to marry as many wives as he desires and that can not amount to bigamy. That's why traditional marriage is falls under the polygamous system of marriage in Nigeria.
And men have been committing adultery without no punishable consequences.na when woman do them own una go begin criticise. Hypocrites everywhere.do men have two heads????
DeleteStella na wa for you. So cos people advised that woman to lie that she was charmed, you think this one is lying? She might be lying but you didn't have to say that.
ReplyDeleteShut that gutter you call mouth.
DeleteShe might be a BVN, this blog is widely read.
DeleteThat woman is not saying the truth. She consented to whatever happened between the two of them. Now claiming the man used charm.
ReplyDeleteI think them say igbo woman no dey cheat ?
Helep me ask them o?
DeleteShame
ReplyDeleteMy thought exactly why is the woman handcuffed, she's not the killer,it's her husband that murdered someone ,this our Nigeria police self them head no dey correct.....as for the cheating hmmmn yeah it's a sin,but it's also a sin when men cheat too,so why do people crucify women when they do the same???it's a man's world ehennn!!! RUBBISH.the thing is men cheat at will, they cheat for no reasons, a man can be married to the most beautiful, well behaved, cultured, interesting woman and will still cheat. In women's case,it's really rare for a woman to cheat just for the fun of it.most times they cheat cos of financial reasons, in the sense when their men is not financially capable in looking after the family. Some women do it to feed their children and send them to school, even feed the man they call husband.on the other hand some women cheat cos they are in an unhappy marriage therefore finding solace outside with another man.you'll hardly see a happily married woman, with good financial status,a very good husband and happy home cheating... NO.NO.NO.a woman that is very much in love finds it hard to cheat.if however you see a supposed happily married woman cheating, dig deep, there's actually something lacking that people don't know about.
ReplyDeleteThat's why, you're still eating mama thank you. With this mentality no man is coming to do the right thing.
DeleteSo you want the woman to be free while the man is locked down right ? Who's the principal actor here ? Who brought home the intruder ? You must be a woman and you go cheat sef.
Delete10000 likes! Haba! If it was the other way round you folks(esp. Women) will still blame the woman. Most women that cheat do it as payback for being cheated on. I have friends who have resorted to cheating back on their husband becos of the way their men cheat on them. Are they happy? No! But at least they say they find solace. What kind of a man abandons his wife and kids for months? Abeggi! A lawyer should take up her case and sue the Nigerian police for unlawful detention and stella for defamation. Btw, i love stella
DeleteAnd you must be a man that is why e dey paineee you gaagaa.

DeleteMy thought exactly why is the woman handcuffed, she's not the killer,it's her husband that murdered someone ,this our Nigeria police self them head no dey correct.....as for the cheating hmmmn yeah it's a sin,but it's also a sin when men cheat too,so why do people crucify women when they do the same???it's a man's world ehennn!!! ReplyDeleteFew moments of disobedience, years of regrets and punishment. Adultery is never an option or solution to marital problems, prayer is. May God deliver us from all temptations.
ReplyDeleteStella it's not easy to walk away on the path of the guy. But women Haba since 2005 it's now you know the man doesn't take care of you. Orisirisi.
ReplyDeleteAfter spending time in jail u think he'll stay married to her?! I don't think so. The ego in men. If it wasn't publicised and the man didn't die, maybe. But not now. That is if his family won't finish her before he gets out of this ish. Infact she may have to relocate and hide sef.
DeleteMen cannot take cheating calmly but expect women to pet and pray for them when they cheat and watch war room on how to keep a cheating husband close to yourself.
ReplyDeleteVery bad that the man had to die foolishly. why will you go to a woman's matrimonial bed and make love to her. Sad day for the 3 of them.
Shame on the 3 of them. Foolish woman, he pestered you. The man is not rich, so why allow him to sleep with you. Anyway na una sabi.
Shame on the woman. He brought misfortune to her husband.
DeleteShut up ctlit face, say somtin about d tribe involved madam,if na edo now u go write story of hw der women cheat.yoruba nko?u go don complete season film of how asewo b der work. Two faced tribalistic mofo.shame on ur igbo sista,na ontop matrimonial bed dem dey fantastically vulcanise her pussy.pretender lot.stella mak I no find dis coment o.
DeleteA high percentage of married Igbo women in western states are just exactly this way. I don't know whats with them and clean Yoruba man. Their husband would be the typical hardworking and responsible Hubby and father, who provides every of their needs, but they must have that Yoruba boy on one side sha. Yet they are quick to abuse Yoruba men but also quick to pull their panties for them. They will marry strictly fellow igbos, but will be looking for romantic Western concubines. This is very prevalent in Lagos. Why? If only these Igbo men know the fantasies of their Nkechis. SMH!
ReplyDeleteThey love the yoruba demon swag and attention
DeleteDon't mind d efulefus.dia men don't know how to treat women.dey tink it's all about money.and even with dia money dey look razz dats why dia women go for d guys dat look d part
DeleteYou are so right. If you reside at Igbo dominated area in Lagos like you go see things. May be their men are always to tied at night.
Delete@Yemi7up, and Yoruba men are active at night? So why so much bed hopping amongst Yoruba women?
DeleteHmmm, Stella it's not so easy to walk away o. See how this useless woman has messed this man's life up. He could have killed as well and face the music once and for all. What effrontery? Mtchewwww.
ReplyDeleteN he didn't kill the wife too, why? This man z a Very immature somebody.
ReplyDeleteThis an aggravated murder! He can be pardoned . Na so them deh face law??? Abeg I!!
ReplyDeleteI love it when I read stories like this, no be only men sabi cheat, d guy should rot in jail.
ReplyDeleteThat's why you're always on SnM. You have rotten mentality and no man will marry you.
DeleteYou speak well jare angelray.....these men can like vex ontop cheating wife but when men cheats the woman would be advice to go watch war room, use coconut and forgive the adulterous husband.Nonsense
DeleteLol @ use coconut oil.
DeleteYou people will not kill me.
She should be handcuffed na. She's an accomplice to murder.
ReplyDeleteSome women get mind sha😶. Adultery?
This us very sad and shameful that the institution called marriage is no significant anymore, people don't respect their vows anymore. is very clear that the man has allowed his anger to override his sense of reasoning and i wont blame him cos the man trust his wife, but is very clear that the man has not been very observant of his environment, he should conduct a DNA test on the kids if he is lucky to save himself out of this terrible predicament,
ReplyDeleteWalk Away to where?
ReplyDeleteBack to the bush or to motor park!
Its not easy as you think it is unless there is no love from the man.
Hmmm. Jesus please come already.
ReplyDeleteIt serves the deceased right. That is how they will all end up. Cheaters all end up dead, in jail or with HIV.
ReplyDeleteThw husband shouldn't have killed the mofo oo. Anger is not good! Now he is in a much bigger problem sef na wah
ReplyDeleteBut the woman didn't commit any crime, why is she handcuffed? Naija police sef mshewww
Charm ni,juju Ko, stories. I feel bad for the man because the woman that led him to been a murderer will walk away free.
ReplyDeleteMen should learn how to take care their wives. It's a pity she got caught. Why d man blood dey hurt like fire abi him sef no dey cheat.
ReplyDeleteSee person with correct sense....we all are our own problems, you will rub a man's head when he cheats and tell his wife to be praying for him,why wont they continue cheating when all they get is encouragement.why are you criticising the woman for cheating.if only men get criticised like this maybe they will learn to change their ways.
DeleteThis is simply wat d bible warned abt sleeping with a married woman.. and rage of d hubby wen u are caught, young men kindly heed advice and desist from fucking ppl's wives...
ReplyDeleteEzekiel, you're a very Correct man. You're really a man. REAL men are proud of you. Don't regret what you did. A good lawyer can save you from the hangman's noose. Claim it wasn't premeditated. You could get just a few years. You see why some of us dey fear to marry? Meanwhile, only a man who is way below an animal fucks another man's wife.
DeleteSaved from the hangman's noose? Probably, but not from the "next best thing", life imprisonment. It was premeditated because it started with a fight but when he realised he was being overpowered by his wife's lover, he went to his toilet to get a machete and used it on the deceased.
DeleteHe can't claim that he had no intention of killing his wife's lover. In Law, he is presumed to have wanted to cause the death of his victim because he was armed with a deadly weapon. If he dealt fit blows on the victim and the victim ended up dying, he can successfully argue that he had no intention of killing the victim because it is a reasonable presumption that regular fist blows for one man to another wouldn't ordinarily cause death, though some have met their death that way. Generally, a man who fights with his fists doesn't not intend to kill his victim but a man who carries a deadly weapon intends to kill. That's the presumption in Law.
This is Nigeria, a person doesn't get "a few years" for murder or manslaughter. For murder, the penalty is death by hanging. For manslaughter, the penalty is life imprisonment. We don't operate the American criminal justice system where you hear things like "25 years to life" where the convict become eligible for parole after serving half of his/her prison sentence.
His actions are quite understandable, unfortunately it comes at a very steep price. This is a classic example of how marrying the wrong partner can, quite literally, cause you your life.
If he has a good lawyer, i doubt he woukd be charged for murder. He can claim self defence cos the man is an intruder in his house
ReplyDelete@Tuscany no, darling, not a snowball's chance in hell! Self-defence doesn't come to play here, not in the least. He attacked his wife's love out of rage and provocation, he wasn't trying to defend himself from sudden and present danger. A very sound lawyer MAY pull off a defence of provocation. The fact that he stopped fighting to go and retrieve a weapon from another room(toilet) and returned to attack the deceased will make the defence of provocation shaky. Assuming the machete was already in the bedroom and he used it immediately, that would have availed him better.
DeleteAnother thing you should know about self-defence is, whatever you use in defending yourself must be proportional to the perceived threat or danger. For example, you can't claim self-defence if you shoot a person who attacks you with his fists and no weapon but you can use a knife on a person who attacks you with a broken bottle. Most people assume you can use anything to defend yourself if and when u are attached but in Law, your mode of defence must be proportional to the attack.
And fists cant kill?
DeleteWhat if he claims he thought the man was a thief that was raping his wife? He struggled and when ge was ober powered he had 2 attack with a machete?
Lol Tuscany, I love ur argument about assuming rape at first sight.. But the woman wasn't crying for help. There was enough time to ascertain the intention of the "intruder". A rapist would flee as soon as a third party arrives the scene. In this case the "intruder" resumed combat with the homeowner.
DeleteChai! See how she put her family in trouble. Which kain wahala is this.
ReplyDeleteThey make a good looking couple.
She's pretty. I can see why another man would want her but she should have said No.
What will they to the kids? And d poor dead guy. He didn't see that coming. What guts to go sleep with a married woman on her matrimonial bed. Nonsense.
Haba, you see what wandering pricks can cause? Rest in Hell Mr snuff seller, welcome to prison Mr Igbokwe (Get a good lawyer, you must come out), Juliet get ready to go back to your father house.

ReplyDeleteSame fate will soon befall her.his halitosis hubby will soon catch her cheating n commit murder.I only pity d olodo sons
DeleteI believe she comments from her veranda , trying to avoid the killing mouth odour from her stupid dirty husband.
DeleteThis is bad.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why a lot of married Igbo women are promiscuous. Why marry someone you do not love (some don't even like their spouses). I don't mean to disrespect the Igbo nation, but the truth is bitter and painful. A lot of your women are promiscuous because they are forced into marriage by their appetite for sheer materialism- materialism dey levels by levels- and the quest to escape poverty. Marry a man and build with him! Before you start singing like a frustrated parrot, let me state clearly that I have a number of them on my case, and they are all aged between 28 and 36. I'm not Yoruba, so this is not tribal bashing. I'm geographically closer to the Igbo nation than the Yorubas and Edos. Like I said, this issue should be wisely and constructively debated. What is the cause of this matrimonial anomaly? Should parents to be blamed for pressuring their kids into such marriages? Are they even the progenitors in the first place?
ReplyDeleteChai Igbos have really suffered seriously!!!
DeleteYou lots always find ways to call out Igbos in every little thng on this earth. So now majority of cheating women are Igbos ehn? Na wah ooo. May God have mercy on your bitter, ugly soul. Tufiakwa gi

The Victor guy, fornication has sent you to hottest part of hell. There are single women everywhere to choose from; but you went for the one that was already taken.
All yee adulterous women on this blog, beware!
This is not a premeditated act, he should get a soundl lawyer and he will walk free, he acted instantly, he never thoughta about it before committing this action. As for this adulterous lying woman, I don't just know what to say to her. Worse case worse case, he will be charged for manslaughter. All the same, I pray he walks free

ReplyDeleteThis is another biblical example of a clamorous woman and just like the clamorous woman in the book of Proverbs, she has fulfilled scriptures by destroying her home with her own hands.

Anyway I don't know about the charm part,it might be true cuz all the Yoruba women I know dey use charm hold their hubby both young, old, rich or poor.and they can cheat as hell cuz of money
ReplyDeleteI laff in Ijebu. Oya now, let Yoruba men fuck us out of our current economic crisis. Some black men are cursed with puzzy.
DeleteIt might also be that she is always confiding in this man as per the hubby's behavior, the man now decide to use charm cuz you can never separate Yoruba people and charm.
ReplyDeleteThis story isn't complete.. where were the kids when the woman was eating the forbidden fruit? I can bet with my life. cheating on her husband wasn't because she was sex starved or the husband wasn't good in bed. it's definitely cos of the money involved. she might be owing the man because she used the money meant to pay for her supplies to take care of her basic and children's needs and the only way out of her debt was to pay back in kind, it's always hell when a woman finds herself in that kind of situation. it's terrible, she didn't have a choice so I don't blame nor judge her. her husbands actions goes a long way to prove the kind of man he is to her. if am faced with a situation like that my head will definitely explode but hey! that's not the end of the world. 65% percent of married women cheat on their husbands.
