Police Detectives Hunt For Financiers Of Bola Ige’s Killers

A crack police investigative team has made headway in efforts at bringing killers of former Minister of Justice Bola Ige to justice. One of the breakthroughs in their investigation includes the discovery of the financier of the murder.

The Guardian gathered from some police detectives that the leads they had in the files were followed and some of the key suspects are already in police custody.Following thorough questioning, one of the suspects has reportedly named a politician as one of their financiers, “a politician, who was based in Abuja at the time.”

According to police sources, it is not clear yet if there are other financiers but the arrested suspect allegedly confessed that their ‘chief’ alluded to a source of funds from the nation’s capital, where he always returned to get their ‘rewards.’
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris recently ordered the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department to dust the files, with a view to unmasking those responsible for the killing of a sitting Attorney General of the Federation, late Bola Ige.

Ige was killed December 2001 in his house in Ibadan. While a number of arrests were made at the time, investigation conducted and suspects taken to court, after some months nothing was heard about the issue. A judge in the case was allegedly fired, while the principal suspects mentioned were released.

The source told The Guardian, “The assumption for now is that it was either the handiwork of political opponents or some contractors, who must have had a brush with the Chief, who was said did not have time for corrupt people.”
“The investigation would be reasonably completed with the arrest of the Abuja financiers. We are looking for him now, immediately he’s arrested, probably in the coming week, we’ll take the next necessary step. Then we will begin the process of prosecution,” the source said.

*In a country where things are not properly documented or a crime scene properly secured,i want to believe there is a whistle blower somewhere giving them info...I DO NOT WANT TO BELIEVE AFTER SO MANY YEARS THERE IS ANY EVIDENCE FOR THEM TO WORK WITH....
As long as their investigations leads them to the person/people responsible for the act, then fine.

    1. Let God punish me if I'm about to lie here. Stella I visited Bola Ige's house the very day he died, with my then boss who was his close ally. We went on a condolence visit, not official.

But what his cook and one other guy told us that day keeps resounding in my memory. This was in his house in Ibadan.

I remember that his cook was all tears as he narrated to us that baba usually took a nap after his meal. And at no point in time was he left unattended by his aids. But on this particular day, after he had dinner he asked ALL his aids to leave, and the cook said he insisted on waiting behind but baba asked him to go home as well that he would be fine. So there was NO ONE with him in the house except for the guard at the gate when the person sneaked in through his roof to kill him.

The guard said that he wasn't at his duty post. That he quickly went to buy something. That perhaps the murderers got in while he was away, or that they had been in the roof even before baba got home.

The theory many settled for was that one of baba's aids must have been an informant to his killers. That they gave the all clear by letting them know that his body guards had been relieved of their duties that night. I can't and won't forget the tensed atmosphere in his white house that day. It was a terrible day. I pray the culprits are found. In fact this case has been a major case study for me.

Sisi this sounds more like the scenario around Funsho William's death o.

    3. @anonymous?lol. Yes u are right. Same scenario played out during William' murder ish too in his dolphin estate home. Same pattern of climbing through the roof top and using the pillow to silence him with a gun. Read both cases and you'd see the similarity in their murder cases. Strange but true. Both unsolved.

  3. Useless country. Let's watch and see what happens as the drama unfolds. Probably Buhari has an enemy he wants to deal with through this investigation. No evildoers shall go unpunished. Justice for the dead is all I pray and hope for.

They should not raise his family' s hopes, to dash them again.

I remember when he died. I was still pretty young, very interested in my dad's magazines and just discovering what politics was.

Dele Giwa nko? I guess nobody would ever know who killed him.

  13. Stella...with all due respect, give the Nigerian Police some credit for the efforts they make! Yes we're not at par with the Western world but we're gradually getting it right. You don't expect to see changes overnight but a little encouragement goes a long way. World Power France is battling terrorism in their home & they can't seem to get a hold of it with citizens be mauled to death month after month while Germany is waking up to the reality it is facing. Even the US can't seem to get a grip of their trigger happy & racially biased Police Force. If you've got nothing encouraging to say, sit down and watch how it plays out
