NSCIA Declares Wednesday Eid-el-Fitri Day In Nigeria

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has declared Wednesday, July 6, as Eid-el-Fitr day in Nigeria.

The President-General of the organisation, and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, who made the announcement, said the new moon of Shawwal had not been sighted anywhere in Nigeria.

He therefore enjoined muslims in the country to fast on Tuesday and observe the eid prayers on Wednesday.

The NSCIA had on Sunday asked every Muslim in the country to look for the new moon between Sunday and Monday for the Eid el-Fitri.

The Secretary-General of the council, Is-haq Oloyede in a statement on Sunday, said the council, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, enjoined all Muslims to look for the moon.

Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and a few other countries had earlier announced Wednesday as Eid-el-Fitri day in their various countries.
Eid-el-Fitri celebrations are used to mark the end of the month-long Ramadan fast.

    2. @Stella, in every month, there's a certain time the moon vanish and also, there will be a certain time it will resurface which is known as the crescent (Start to take note from now). So the sight of a new crescent which is always very tiny @ the initial stage can hardly be seen with our naked eyes, hence, there are Moon-Sighting Committee who studied Meteorology that does that for us. Sighting of the Crescent is the beginning of another Lunar Month for the Muslims.

      Today is Ramadan Day 30, every Lunar Month is either 29 or 30, so the month of Ramadan is either 29 or 30 as well. Had it been that the moon was sighted yesterday, today will be Eid-Il-Fitri (First day of a new month, the 10th month of the Muslim) and since we can't sight the moon anywhere in the world yesterday, we will automatically count 30 days for Ramadan and the following day will be 1st of another Lunar Month (Shawwal, 10th Month) which will be Eid-Il-Fitri Day. You're free to ask any question again

    7. @XP, thanks so much ma. Have a pleasant holiday as well.

      @White Diamond, lol, chop kisses.

      @Anon 12:32, Ramadan is the 9th of the Muslim Calender which implies strict fasting from dawn to sunset for every adult Muslims. It is a compulsory fasting which means abstinence from eating, drinking, sexual immorality from dawn to dust. It's written in the Q:2:183 that "O ye who belief, we've made fasting in the month of Ramadan compulsory on you as we've done for those before you, so that you will fear your God".

      So it's all about how you will fear God, always remember him, and to be generous in other to learn how to give to the needy. So that the rich will feel the hunger that the poor feels as well and they will be able to help them.

Cos I'm sure I saw d moon last night, or did I not? *thinking* Anyways, so if they don't find the moon, does it mean d public holiday is cancelled? Cos I've already hung my wig and gown until Thursday. Holiday rocks, whoop whoop!

    1. They don't give public hols, they only tell you the real date of sallah. Its either on the 29th day or 30th. There's still holiday but the main celebration day is tomorrow and thats the day they will go to the mosque for prayers
