Here are some things you need to know this morning:
1. The Department of State Security Service, DSS, Saturday, revealed the identity of the Niger Delta militant, who allegedly threatened to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari and bomb key public institutions, including Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja. The service, in a statement by Tony Opuiyo, gave the name of the suspect as Jones ABIRI, aka General Akotebe DARIKORO, who the service arrested from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday vowed that the killers of Redeemed Christian Church of God’s preacher, Eunice Elisha Olawale, in Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory will soon be apprehended and face the ‘music.’ The President, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir David Lawal, said this during the burial service held in RCCG FCT 2 Provincial Headquarters in Kubwa.
3. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered agent banks to allow international money transfer operators to sell foreign currency accruing from inward money remittances to licensed Bureau De Change operators (BDCs). The directive was contained in a circular with reference number, “TED/FEM/ FPC/GEN/01/004, dated July 22, 2016 and posted on its Website’’.
4. The Youth Wing of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Saturday, warned Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-rufai to stop further plan to demolish Gbagyi Villa, a community with over 4,000 structures in Kaduna metropolis. The youths while condemning the planned action, wondered why the governor was desperate to demolish an entire community while the case was still pending in a court of competent jurisdiction. The youth in a statement warned that the situation will turn ugly if a building is touched in the area.
5. Some militant groups from the Niger Delta region, yesterday, rejected what they called the grandstanding of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) as their chief negotiator, dismissing MEND’s selection of a group of persons known as Aaron Team 2, to dialogue with government on behalf of the militants. A militant group, Ultimate Warriors conveyed the position of the militants.
6. An early morning inferno on Saturday destroyed shops at Sabon-Gari Market, Kano. The fire, which affected shops belonging to meat, fish and vegetable sellers, started around 5:00am. Some people who were cooking in the market were reported to have caused the fire.
7. Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election in Adamawa has appreciated his new party, the APC, for still believing in him, stating that he feels happy to be back. Addressing party officials at the APC secretariat in Yola on Saturday, Ribadu, said his intention was to participate in the ongoing nation building.
8. Nigeria’s U-20 team is out of next year’s U-20 AFCON, after they were beaten 4-3 at home by 10-man Sudan. They lost out on an away goal rule. The Flying Eagles, who are the defending champions, had won the first leg 2-1 in Sudan but failed to defend their lead at home.
9. Family members of Sheikh Ibraheem Yaqoub Zakzaky, Saturday, visited him at the place the Department of State Services (DSS) said he was being held in “protective custody” since the 14th day of December 2016. They, however, cried out that, the health of their leader had deteriorated further. They said his left eye was in dire need of specialized medical attention. They also alleged that his left arm where he sustained gunshot wounds was still demobilized and the wounds were yet to heal.
10. The Niger Delta Avengers, has denied reports that two of its members were arrested by the Nigerian Navy. The militant group in a statement by its spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo on Saturday, insisted that the two suspects arrested by the Nigerian Navy were not Avengers. According to the group, the Navy lacks the ability to arrest its members because it has superior weapons.
