A mother was in custody Friday as police investigated the stabbing deaths of four children at an apartment complex in Tennessee.
Authorities responded to the incident at the Greens of Irene apartment complex in southeast Shelby County.
Shelby County Sheriff Bill Oldham called the children's deaths, "A tragic scene that has shocked us to our core. I will never understand how anyone would do that."
All the children are under 6 years old, Oldham said.
"We are going to offer condolences and prayers to the family. This community needs prayer."
He said Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell had been made aware of the situation and has offered all resources and assistance.
The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office is sending its Special Victim's Unit to the scene, Oldham said.
He said the call about the stabbings came through on 911 around 1 p.m. CT.
Some neighbors at the scene said they didn't know what happened.
Sheriff's deputies had blocked off one section of the sprawling, well-maintained complex of neat brick buildings. In another area of the complex, golfers continued to play.
The crime scene is in an unincorporated area of Shelby County.
No further details were available as the investigation continues.

ReplyDeleteBut why must people have kids if you can't take care of them both emotionally and financially.
You wld see people that can't feed having children. What wld they eat when they get here. When u and ur wife can't even feed. You can get married, wait even 5yrs to settle urself financially. If your mother inlaw complains, tell her to give you money to raise them.
I got married immediately after NYSC and I was 24. My husband was 28 and a junior staff in the bank.
After we got married we waited 3/4 yrs before having kids. I needed to get a job, that took a yr to even get a job. We started saving. By that 3/4 yrs I had saved, my husband had been promoted. So we got pregnant and started our lives.
Now we have a son, and Iv told my hubby just 1 more child. Hopefully a girl, and my son will be 3 before I even start trying to get pregnant.
A lot of parents don't deserve to be called parents. If you can't handle having kids kindly stay without them.
Raising kids takes a lot of sacrifice and I don't think it is for every one. Or just have the amount you can adequately care for.
Why only have kids just to kill them. Devil has really taken over. The woman must be sick and possessed with the devil.

What was their crime? They cried too much? They threatened your happiness? What useless reason will whoever did it have?
