FAKE EXPIRY DATE ALERT

Dear Stella, attached to this mail are pictures of the bounty my hubby bought for me yesterday. 

I checked the expiry date and found out it hadn't expired, but then I noticed the part of the wrapper where the expiry date was written was a bit shinier than the other part of the wrapper. 

I got curious, and looked closely only to realize that the product had expired since last year November but a new expiry date had been placed on it. I got very angry and we went back to the supermarket we bought it from. Stella, you won't believe that everything they had in that particular batch was like that and they said that was the last pack from that batch. 

Infact, I opened like 5 more from the ones they still had on the shelf. They apologized sha, and that's why I won't give out their name cos it's a very big supermarket with branches. Let's just all be careful cos people are looking for money at all cost. Thanks

ANTE-NATAL CARE

Hello Stella

I'm a frequent blog visitor, though I've only commented as anonymous a few times. I don't know where this mail will fit into. Maybe In House News. I trust your discretion sha!

I'm sending you this mail because I noticed recently that it appears there are so many blog visitors who write requesting for assistance as they are pregnant and things are financially difficult for them. The ones I'm particular about are the ones that say they are 6,7,8 months gone and have not attended ante-natal clinic because of a lack of funds.

I know the economy is hard but I will advise that we do not take our lives and the lives of our unborn babies for granted.Pregnancy is a very delicate time as a lot of things are going on inside that womb which we can't see from the outside. Even in the olden days, they had traditional midwives who took care of the pregnant women and helped them to eat well, thus ensuring they got a balance diet and the necessary nutrients for child growth. 

In my own case, I had my baby in a private clinic and the ante-natal care was N1000 per visit (which was every 2 weeks then weekly from 36 weeks till delivery) out of which they gave us drugs- anti-malaria, multivitamins, calcium etc. I imagine some hospitals will charge less, especially faith-based hospitals like RCCG Maternities which are run by the Provinces.


A healthy diet, with maybe a supplement like pregnacare which you can get for N3000 for a month's supply, you can be sure that your baby is getting all the healthy nutrients. But how do you know your baby is growing well if you don't see qualified medical practitioners who will check your fetal (baby's) heartbeat and tell you if it is normal or not? A woman who is 6 months pregnant and says she has never felt her baby kick and her stomach is not growing, how do you know if baby is still alive? How do you know if you are carrying twins or more and the precautions to take if you don't go to the hospital?

 How do you know if the baby is breech or feet first or if the placenta is blocking the cervix, which may require a CS? You hear of people having prolonged labour and the child is in distress or was a stillbirth when the woman ought not to have even pushed at all and a CS would have been the best thing for mother and child.  

One does not necessarily have to register for ante natal care in a private clinic. Government hospitals too are good and quite affordable. I was surprised to learn that ante-natal care is practically free in Lagos state primary health centers. You pay N2000 and that's all you need to pay and it also covers your delivery. When you require tests and scans, you will pay for those, which in most healthy pregnancies is blood work at about 8 weeks, scan when you are like 4 months gone and then close to delivery. I heard this first hand from the nurses at the health center during health talk when I took my baby for immunisation.

Our government hospitals may not be perfect, they may waste a lot of time when you go there but at all at all na im bad pass. I recently read about a lady who died because they couldn't afford ante-natal care. Right here in this Lagos State. I felt very sad because she lived very close to a primary health center and had she used their services, she may have survived. 

I know we have faith and believe God for safe delivery and healthy babies. God gave doctors that medical knowledge for a purpose - to help humanity. God gave us the ability to have ultrasound scans and all those machines because he wants us to know how the human body works. The one he does not want us to know, he will hide from us till he is ready to reveal it, e.g AIDS that doesn't have a cure yet. Let us not tempt God or perish out of ignorance. Let us use the opportunity, wisdom and knowledge that God has given unto humanity through modern medicine. Utilise the taxes that you pay and visit the government hospitals where you can get basic care at subsidised rates. At least till God answers our prayers and we can afford Reddington, St Nicholas and co.

As for the men who say they don't have money to take care of their pregnant wives but will spend money on drinks and naming ceremony, may God forgive you. You will rather risk the lives of your wife and child and spend money on irrelevancies so that people will say you spent money to do party. The thunder that will fire you is doing press up.
