Solve THIS iF You Can!

This looks easy but it is not because everyone will arrive at a different answer...

A lady bought goods worth ₦200 and paid the shopkeeper with a ₦1000 Note.
The Shopkeeper had no change on him so he went to another Shopkeeper John his neighbour and collected ₦1000 change in ₦200 denominations, with
which he settled the lady and she left.

A little while later, John came back angrily after he discovered the ₦1000 note he was given by the shopkeeper was fake, and demanded a replacement.
To avoid trouble, the shopkeeper had to give John another ₦1000 and destroyed the counterfeit which had no real value.

So Question for the geniuses...

How much has the Shopkeeper lost in total?

    1. He lost 1k. The borrowing from John made no difference. Forget John and look at it like dis... he dashed d woman N200 worth of goods and still gave her N800 as change= N1000. And he collected d N1000 dat d woman made away with from John at first and later paid him back! Meaning he lost only 1k! Simple

200 naira is the total loss just concentrate on the fact of this case leave every other story.

    3. Let's keep John out of the equation. He didn't give money to the shopkeeper therefore, he didn't receive any money.
The woman gives shopkeeper 1k and collects 8h. John discovers the 1k is fake. He destroys it. Destroyed 1k+ 2h goods+ 8h change equals to 2k.
      Finish

IF YOUR ANSWER IS NOT 1K YOU HAVE COTTON WOOL AS BRAIN LMAO. THE SHOPKEEPER TOOK FAKE 1K TO JOHN HIS NEIGHBOR AND HELD 200NAIRA FOR HIS GOODS MEANING HE ALREADY HAD THE VALUE FOR HIS GOOD SOLD. THE 800 GIVEN TO THE LADY IS NOT HIS MONEY BUT FROM JOHN, HE ONLY REPLACED THE 1K FOR JOHN SINCE THE INITIAL ONE WAS FAKE. HIS LOSS IS 1000 naira only.

    5. Think very well you all. You open your shop without any money on you, then someone brings 1000 to buy a good of 200, u went to your neigbor to change the money into 5 pieces of 200, u kept one which is d value for your good and gave 4pieces (800) as change. Your NEIGHBOR returns d 1000 saying its fake so it's just as if you borrowed 1k From your neighbour in which you have kept 200naira with you and given out 800. So the loss is 1000naira. 800 change given out and d good worth 200 d woman took.finish

Look at it this way, u have a pen u wanna sell 200, I gave u 1k then u went to ur neigbor to get 5 pieces of 200notes, I gave u my pen and 800naira balance. Leaving me with 200naira for my pen, that means I have d value for my pen. My neigbor returns claiming d 1k is counterfeit, being that I have no other money on me I went to use Atm and withdraw 1k for him and destroyed d fake one. The 1k i withdrew is a LOSS from my acct plus the 800 naira change I gave d lady. MAKING 1800. I still have my 200 naira for d value of pen sold.

Shop keeper did not lose the initial 1000 he gave to John as it was never his own.
He did not lose the CHANGE of 800 he gave to the customer as it was never his own.
He lost the GOODS worth 200
But he has the 200 he kept from the 1000 given by John
He lost the 1000 he subsequently gave to John

    Thus (-200) + (+200) + (-1000) = -1000

  37. Her loss is the fake #1,000 note and nothing more. Every other thing added to it was to cause confusion.
    EXPLANATION:
Assuming the shopkeeper had just #2k with her. Someone came to buy product worth #200, she's supposed to have a total of #2,200 with her. But as her neighbour has brought the fake #1k note back to her and she paid from her initial #2k leaving her the total balance of #1,200 instead of #2,200. Her total loss is #1k, which was the fake note.
It may be dice but it is easy to analyse critically.

  58. He collected 200 for the goods, let's assume he had 1000 in his cupboard, the he had to replace the fake 1000 wif the one in his cupboard, he has 200 left which he got from the sale bt the 200 can't be removed bcos it represents wat he sold, so he lost 1000 in his cupboard nd got 200 for his goods he lost 1000

    ReplyDelete
  59. He lost 2,000
    N200 = worth of goods.
N800 = the money given to the buyer as change.
N1,000 = the amount he refunded his neighbour.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The total amount the shopkeeper lost is 1200, been the total cost the buyer cost the seller

    ReplyDelete
  61. N1,800. There was an original N200 received from the change. This is value for the good sold.

    ReplyDelete
  62. see how people fail mathssss! simple logic . he lost a total of 1000 from the woman. two hundred worth of goods and 800 change. he gave john back 1000 so that is a total of 2000. but remember that john gave him 5 pieces of 200 and he gave the woman 4 pieces of 200 so he has one piece of 200 left. therefore subtract 2000-200=1800.
and thats the correct ans. but if you want to subtract the goods because it wasnt in cash then its 1600.

    ReplyDelete
  63. SHE LOST 2000
THAT IS 1000 CHANGE FROM THE OTHER SHOPKEEPER WHICH WAS TAMED AS FAKE
THEN 200 WORTH OF GOODS AND 800 CHANGE SHE GAVE TO THE LADY THE CAME TO BUY SOMETHING INITIALLY MAKING IT 2000 LOST

    ReplyDelete
  64. He lost #1200. 200 worth of goods he lost to the lady and his own original #1000 which he gave to his neighbour.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Say the seller had no money on him at the time of transaction.
He took the 1000 from the buyer to the John to change, gave the buyer 800 back and he now has 200 (+ve) with him.
He later as to give the John 1000(-ve)for the fake note i.e +200-1000, which gives -800. He runs a loss of 800 in cash and 200 in goods

    ReplyDelete
  66. #1000 » his goods worth #200 the #800 balance he gave to the customer equal #1000

    ReplyDelete
