A Pakistani teenager was burned alive by her own mother after defying her family and eloping to marry her boyfriend.
Zeenat Rafiq, 18, died after her mother and brother tied her to a cot, doused her in kerosene and set her alight in the family home in Lahore, eastern Pakistan.
Parveen Rafiq was arrested on the same day and has since confessed to killing her daughter for refusing to have a traditional wedding.
Zeenat's 'crime' was getting married to her partner Hasan Khan, a motorcycle mechanic, before a court magistrate last month, Police official Sheikh Hammad said
Three days ago the Parveen Rafiq and an uncle visited Zeenat to try to persuade her to return home.
They asked her to have the marriage ceremony repeated in a traditional family function, instead of being labelled her whole life as someone who had 'eloped', Hammad added.
Mr Khan, her husband, told the local Geo News TV station that Zeenat had feared the worst.'Don't let me go, they will kill me,' Khan recounted his wife telling him.
Nearly 1,000 women are killed each year in so-called 'honor killings' in Pakistan for allegedly violating conservative norms on love and marriage.
Last week, a 19-year-old teacher was tortured and burned alive for refusing to marry the son of her boss - a man twice her age.
Maria Sadaqat,was attacked in the village of Upper Dewal, outside the capital Islamabad, on Monday night, and died two days later as a result of injuries.
Ms Sadaqat had recently been forced to leave her teaching job at the school, after the principal had begun harassing her when she turned down the proposal from his son, who was 'twice her age'.
Before she died, she managed to give a statement to the police, testifying that five attackers had broken into her home, dragged her out to an open area, beat her and set her ablaze.
The prime suspect in the case — her former boss and the father of the man she refused to marry — and the other four are all in custody.
A month earlier, police arrested 13 members of a local tribal council who allegedly strangled a girl and set her on fire for helping a friend elope. The charred body of 17-year-old Ambreen Riasat was found in a burned van.

Thanks for your objective comment. God bless you. I am a Yoruba muslim and I can tell you that the things u see in the north are a blend of tradition and innovations which are not a part of Islam. In the worship of God, no man is perfect but the people in the north have taken it to an extreme and even God hates extremism and that's why Islam is referred to as the middle path -moderacy. It is really embarrassing that people have used the general misconceptions about Islam to tarnish the image of the religion. Believe it or not, Islam is peace. Some of the adherents may not be peaceful, but there are extremists in every religion. That of Islam just gets more attention from the media, trust me. On a final note, I think we should look at the teachings of a religion objectively and judge it not by it's adherents. P.S Hausas are a temperamental lot and their aggression has tainted the image of the religion. This goes for those Muslims in very hot areas too. DeleteIf I say I'm not shocked, it's not because I don't condemn the killings but because my being shocked and publicly condemning the killings will not stop it from happening again. Just like the killing in Kano, most of these acts are carried out by folks who don't know better than what they already believe in so this problem is ideological. An Igbo adage will say "ajo ihe gbaru afo, oburu ome n'ala". Once these had happened repeatedly in the past and these communities themselves didn't condemn it, it would be a norm for the folks in those communities and they will continue to do what they are doing!
