Niger Delta Governors Want Corruption Charges Dropped Across The Region To Stop Pipeline Attacks

Governors of the South-South region who met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House today called for a majority of the corruption cases in the region to be dropped by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)....

The meeting was attended by Governors of Edo, Ondo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, as well as the Deputy Governor of Cross River.

Sahara reporters source, who was at the meeting, said that only the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole and the deputy Governor of Cross River opposed the others, who singled out the federal government’s anti-corruption initiative as the reason why Niger Delta Avengers are blowing up pipelines in the region.

Speaking one after the other, the governors reportedly asked the Federal government to drop charges against former militants accused of corruption.  They also want the EFCC to stop investigating the campaign fund scam which has so far revealed how former President Goodluck Jonathan shared funds meant that were meant for combating Boko Haram among his People’s Democratic Party functionaries.

Sahara also learned that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, was curiously on the side of the South-South governors who want corruption charges and all forms of corruption investigations against the Niger Delta politicians discontinued.

The Governor of Delta, Patrick Okowa, reportedly obtained a two-week ceasefire from the Niger Delta Avengers before arriving at the meeting but did not disclose it because he was uncomfortable that the Vice President wasn’t disposed to the idea.  SaharaReporters learnt that through his Deputy, Mr. Okowa had extensive meetings with the Niger Delta Avengers, pointing out that it was evident that he and other South South governors knew who the militants were as he spoke at the meeting.

The source further stated that if the terms pushed by the South South Governors are fully adopted by the Buhari regime, his anti-corruption fight will die prematurely in all of the South South states.  He said that from the tone of the meeting, it was clear that the Niger Delta Avengers and their activities are being funded by politicians in the region with the objective of halting Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

A press statement issued at the end of the meeting by the Vice-President’s office indicated that the federal government was represented at the meeting by the Minister of Defense, Rtd. Major General Mohammed Dan Ali; Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani; and Dr. Kachikwu.

Also in attendance were military service chiefs, led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt.Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin.

Pmb should know what to do, get these militants under wrap and charge their sponsors with economic treason.

  7. I don't blame them. Looting has been going on in Nigeria since its inception. Hausas looted, Yorubas looted. Why is Jonathan's case different? Even the international communities have spoken against the witch-hunting of the opposition. Let Buhari move on and stop dragging us back.

    7. I am not poor, neither have I ever benefitted from corruption. If Buhari wants to fight corruption, he need to learn from America. When they fight corruption , every one involved must go down. No sacred cow. Buhari is just fighting opposition. Take the case of The Haliburton scandal as an example. Us jailed ipeople involved , how many people were jailed in Nigeria?

Losers, they should continue with their blackmail. The so called NDA should blow up all oil pipelines their business, after-all citizens did not benefit from their so called oil money only same elites. Blowing Pipelines come with serious implications that will affect their generation, let them continue. The Environmental degradation created by Shell is yet to be cleaned up. It's a shame our so-called Kachikwu will support such ridiculous term. PMB government should never consider such shameful offer.

I have aboki friends in Abuja / NY living like emperors from their fathers loot and nobody is talking about them - Nonsense! Heard interior minister said the other day that they will not use the military against rampaging AK 47 wielding herdsmen but they will quickly deploy soldiers to kill unarmed protesting Ipob members. If we want to clean up the country, let the fight be total, after all we witnessed in this country when N50m was shared to each senator in this country for 3rd term bid. Where do I start from, is it the Halliburton scandal, the siemens scandal, APC campaign fund that nobody is talking about or the Northerners owning 85% of all oil blocks in the Niger Delta. Abeg I don tire to write jare

  24. Bcos the north has been ruling this country since independence, they allocated most of the oil wells to the northerners eg Alh Indimi and TY Danjuma. These oil lords earn more than some state governments in the region . Imagine Alh Indimi donating N4.2 to an American University.
Bcos the north has always been in power, they has practically looted this country to the ground. Corruption did not start with the GEJ govt. So why should the tribally and religiously biased Buhari govt single his regime out for humiliation?

Why then did the avengers cite another reason for their irrational behaviour?

Bubu should come back and tell us his stand on this o.

The only thing he said about corruption was that stealing is not corruption so stop complaining. He had the chance and opportunity.
