Fayose Says Ekiti Won’t Contribute To School Feeding Programme

The school feeding rogramme proposed by the Federal Government should be done without any financial contribution from the states, Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose said yesterday.

He said it was wrong for the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to ask state governments for a 40 per cent counterpart funding for the project.
“The Federal Government is already looking for excuses for the impending failure of the programme by asking states to contribute 40 per cent to the scheme,” Fayose said in a statement.

He said the school feeding programme was purely a contract between the APC-led Federal Government and Nigerians.
“Were the states consulted before the APC made the promise during the presidential campaign?” the governor queried.

“How can you make a promise and win election on the basis of that promise and now expect states to help you to fulfil the promise? That to me is fraud,” he added.
According to Fayose, Ekiti State and other states in the country deserve to benefit from the programme without assisting the Federal Government with any 40 per cent counterpart funding.

The governor said the APC-led Federal Government should rather blame itself for failing to do proper study on the practicability of the scheme before promising Nigerians, instead of looking for who to blame for not fulfilling the school feeding promise.
“Apart from the fact that Ekiti State lacked the financial wherewithal to provide counterpart fund for such a programme, it is the duty of President Muhammed Buhari and his APC that won election on the basis of their promise to give free meal to school pupils to fulfil the promise without placing any burden on other tiers of government.

“Nigerians should come to terms with the reality that the Federal Government is already looking for a ready alibi for the impending failure of the school feeding programme.

“The Federal Government knows that 80 per cent of the states lack the financial will to be able to contribute the 40 per cent counterpart fund for the programme and the time the programme eventually fails, Nigerians will be told that it failed because states did not key in to it.

  1. I truly don't know what this feeding is going to change, frankly speaking!

Pay the parents of these kids their salaries and they will be well fed at home.

These kids want quality education,is all.

Create jobs, work on Power and see the parents of these kids have successful small scale businesses.

Why are they even roping states in? When they have not finished paying salaries!!!

If Rochas contributes to this,i will know that he is an evil genius. How dare he owe pensioners for a whole year? He scraps off ministries like a mad person and talks to the people that voted him in with disdain and anger.

The sad part is the fact that some teachers that are owed will corner the food meant for kids and sell.
Food is not the problem for now...put some things in place then give them food,at least they will be able to eat, drink water and keep cup without anguish.

Please take the food to IDPs!

    2. Well said!

If there's proper feasibility, how would they ask states that are owing salaries to come and pay for food.

I wonder where all these are leading too, I think referendum is necessary on some issues. This is not the best option for Nigeria citizens now.

Hugging the headlines every now & then won't alleviate the plight of Ekiti State workers who u deceptively claim to be striking with. Look for funds to pay them & stop being an attack dog!

  8. Fayose in as much as you have a somewhat valid point, it's not all the time you have to bring down the house. We are all trying to build one Nigeria here. Think about the kids and people of ur state for once and stop acting up. That one meal would go a very long way in reducing starvation. You can't even imagine how beneficial it would be to some homes. Abeg bring out ur 40 percent!!!

    1. They should pay workers their salaries, maybe then parents will be able to feed their kids and then there would be no need for the feeding programme

  9. The truth is feeding students isn't sustainable. This is a country that has shown no sign of continuity as it concerns governance since 1960 even amongst party members. FGN should concentrate on increment of minimum wage to match the current inflation rate abeg not feeding some kids which willl be used as a guise to defraud the general public.

  10. I have to agree with fayose on this. The federal government should fund this solely. They made the promise. States could barely pay salary and u are still asking them for money. Where will they get it?.

    ReplyDelete
  11. They want state governments to contribute. The one that Kaduna governor is feeding them that after the food, they will runaway from school to go home and come back the next day to continue another food.

I think this should be off. It is not worth it at all

  13. Agreed its APC program in which their governors were well involved in and this has been in practice by some of their state. What is PDP program for children in primary schools so that Fayose can start implementing before his tenure expire.

  17. It's very annoying that people can't see the wrong in something because they are staunch supporters

Why should state contribute 40% to a promise made solely by a party?? Why are they putting it on states that are yet to even pay salaries?? Imagine how broke most states are and you are asking them to contribute like you consulted them before taking such decisions

Please feeding those student isn't a priority.. I don't think they want that. They want their parents paid so they can afford school fees and food.. They want light so their parents small scale business can survive...

The one lady a state governor is doing, aren't teachers taking the food home?? Most students finish eating and leave the school, come back the next day for food. That shows they are hungry cause parents can't feed them. If the parents business were doing well or were paid salary thay wouldn't be the

  19. Well I think this food thing won't be handled well the money for the food would get stolen as usual. The government should use this money instead to buy the children books, school bags, sock, shoes etc and equip the school with good facilities

  20. i think i agree with him on this one how can you make a promise and ask someone else to fulfill the promise you made? doesnt make sense at all. APCheaters be fooling them sef since 1870.
