Weeks ago, media personality and actress Osas Ajibade shared the exciting news of her pregnancy to the world via an exclusive with lifestyle magazine Genevieve and now the mother-to-be is opening up on why she initially wanted to keep her pregnancy a secret.
In the June issue of the magazine, the 32-year-old star disclosed that she would have loved her pregnancy to be a private experience unfortunately she acknowledges that with her choice of career, it is difficult to do so. “This is my first child and I do not want people’s opinions or judgement at this time. I want to take back that power from the public and enjoy my pregnancy with all its challenges. Unfortunately, I am aware that this is the industry I signed up for and people will always judge” she told the magazine.
Osas, who got married to fellow Tinsel star Gbenro Ajibade last year in New York, further revealed that she didn’t want to jinx her pregnancy and has had to stick to her mum’s superstitious instructions through it all. “It is a very sensitive period for us especially with my older sister passing away from malaria when she was with child.
My mum is really protective and she is on board with my keeping this pregnancy a secret” she said. In 2013, Osas launched the Joyful Joy Foundation in memory of her sister , Joy Ighodaro to bring more awareness on malaria. Her sister and her unborn child died of the disease on a short visit to Nigeria in 2006.
On a lighter note, the former beauty queen dished on some Benin superstitions she has strictly followed like putting a pin on her clothes to ward off evil and not telling anyone how far gone she is in her pregnancy. “I am following my mum’s instructions to the letter. We know the culture we are in.
Let’s be real, there are bad belle people out there so to protect this blessing we are going to enjoy this moment privately.” she stated.

ReplyDeleteHahahahah@Safety pin.. I was told that as well, but I ditched it biko. Couldn't understand the explanation.
I totally get that initial fear of...what if something happens?how do I cope with the sorry from people, the sympathetic looks and calls etc. I fought against negative thoughts though.
May your sister rest on in the Lord..i hate to hear that women passed on from pregnancy or childbirth, infact i hate death!
Happy pregnancy to you and hubby.
To each her own. I believe that behind all de civilization facade, we are still Africans and have our belief (superstition or real) to deal with. Pray we get to hear de voice of Osas and de cry of her baby at the appointed time.
ReplyDeleteBut na d same belle I dey see for magazine cover? You can still keep it private Dear Osas, decline all IVs, no more waka waka, take a break...
ReplyDeleteI think what she means is that it was ideal for her to keep it private at that early stage when some people might lose their pregnancies due to stress etc.
DeleteThis her pregnancy might be well over 6months I guess.... that period when people obsess over every little blood they see is over at this stage.
OK ooo. Keep it private and Ur marriage too! This one u talk sef na revealing too much, money no gree u keep am private...lolzzzz
ReplyDeleteI love u still
Exactly!!!! The pay must hv bin substantial for her to give up her privacy.... E good jare. It's necessary and advisable sef. No need for too much noise.

ReplyDeleteSo am guessing the whites that lack culture and don't know about the pin in clothe myth don't birth safely .
Well they are not as fetish as we are so they don't go to bablawos or native doctors to jinx someone's pregnancy. Let's be real, these things happen in Africa and one has to be very careful....educated or not.
DeleteWhites lack culture?Whites as in the ones you watch on the tv?
DeleteGoogle pregnancy superstitions and broaden your view.

DeleteI can never for the life of me understand why people feel the need for validation through social media. Why expose yourself so much? If you the parent escape evil arrows what about these children you are exposing unnecessarily?in future when these children start exhibiting evil traits you will start running from pillar to post. The worst is those ones that expose their children's educational prowess on social media. I am so sorry for them. There are principalities and powers that can turn all those certificates you show off with on social media into 'ordinary paper',you will just be carrying your multiple degrees around and you will not find work. You should learn the art of containing your excitement by asking yourself 'this info i want to put on the world wide web do these people need to know'? You have made life so easy for witches by putting it out there with YOUR OWN HANDS. IT IS UNWISE TO THINK AND ACT LIKE THE INTERNET IS YOUR LIVING ROOM. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHOSE SOLE AIM IS TO MONITOR YOU AND DESTROY THAT THING YOU ARE ENJOYING AND SHOWING OFF WITH. TRUE STORY
DeleteWhatever works for you sweetie.Best wishes
ReplyDeleteOk.
ReplyDeleteYou for kuku decline the interview till you born na.
Good for her. She is more beautiful while pregnant. I think she is having a girl. Her breast don full finish. What is gbenro still doing in Nigeria? He should also relocate.

ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better. I love you Osas! God keep you and your baby safe till due date. Amen.
ReplyDeleteThat's how it's meant to be done. People need to understand that pregnancy period is a sensitive period and as such should be treated as such.

ReplyDeleteMao akuh, are you working with Indians? If yes, na their way ooo I know what am saying
DeleteI never knew about the safety pin until i came to Europe. Many Europeans also believe it; just that their own safety pin is the blue eyed pendant. In the country i live, most pregnant women wears the blue-eyed pendant, they even wear it on their new born.
ReplyDeleteWhen i was pregnant, i didn't wear it because i don't believe in it, but someone bought it for me as a gift. After i gave birth, most of the gifts i received, there were a lot of golden safety pin with the blue-eyed pendant. I just pin some on my baby stroller and baby car seat.
Most Europeans still believes in their culture, and they mostly white.
looking at her u can tell her far gone she is,pls stay off media ppl re real gud in know in
