Abia govt begins free feeding in primary schools

Abia State government has kicked off a free primary schools lunch programme aimed at giving the pupils free meal daily in all public primary schools.

The programme, according to the government, would help “meet the basic nutritional needs of children and expand the opportunity to reach their full potential and significantly enhance the academic performance of the children.”

The programme is to feed a total number of 136, 258 pupils, who will consume 408, 774 fresh eggs, 51, 09, 670 grammes of ofada rice and 68, 120, 000 grammes of beans, weekly. Flagging off the first phase of the programme at Ntigha primary school in Isiala Ngwa North council, weekend, Governor Ikpeazu said the initiative was borne out of a genuine desire to invest in children who are the future leaders.

He said that he understood what it meant to go to school on an empty stomach as well as the pains some parents went through to provide meals for their children, saying that under the scheme, every pupil in Abia was sure of at least one meal a day. Ikpeazu lamented tons of food that end up in the dust bin on daily basis by the affluent while some children go hungry due to lack and stressed the need to bridge the gap.

He pledged to sustain the programme.

Okezuo abia for life, over 30 roads fully finished and completed in one year of governance! This is what it is to have a seasoned academician as a governor! Abia, God has indeed remembered you!

  10. Stella quit this your liking this man, the man is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
I am telling you, the way this man is going, he will be worse than his predecessor.

A man that will leave substance and pursue shadows, ask him the last time he paid salaries.
Has he paid the teachers that will carry this out?

You can imagine him saying he knows the pain parents go through to provide food for their children, why won't they go through such when you have refused to pay their salaries? How will they give their best?

Stella, he who wears the shoe know where it pinches most, you don't Stay in this part of the world and you don't understand what we go through.

I am a civil servant and have not been paid from February till now, that is why I am wailing.

Any rightful thinking Governor will strive to make civil servants comfortable and every other thing will fall into place.

Let me not even talk of pensioners, that is a story for another day.
Meanwhile, suffering and smiling defenders you are free to die on top this my comment.
    Lots of love Stella.

    3. Really and what percentage of the state population is made up of civil servants. Its really irritating when civil servants whine as if they are the only ones in the state. Mind you I'm a civil servant too but unlike you I know non civil servants too matter and in as much as you don't appreciate this some people do.

    4. Anon 09:41,I doubt if you are a civil servant cos if you are, you won't make such an insensitive comment. Abia state is more of civil servants and because of non payment of salaries, nothing is moving.is it not the civil servant that would buy from the market women or would you think of starting up a project when you are trying to manage? How will business move?

    5. Faceless anons u for atleast show ur faces so we know if we are talking to robots. So u r in Nigeria and u don't know the economic situation, are u quarrelling with Google? One good example is fayose whose monthly wage bill is N2bn but he gets N700m allocation monthly for running the whole state. I bet u expect him to use ur teeth to pay. Lagos is exempted because they generate a lot of revenue on their own. That's what the state govs should start doing instead of waiting for allocation. This initiative is funded by the private sector in Abia and the governor is seriously developing aba traders businesses across the globe. For one he is the chief marketer and exporter, plus he's inviting industries everywhere, hence roads et Al. Please guys be informed lest u sound like beer parlour ignoramuses

  18. Am sorry to say but i tink the people of abia state are daft. How can a governor who hasn't paid workers for months, with the worst road network in Nigeria and hasn't done one successful project be using money that could go a long way in developing the state to started and an unsustainable project. Abia state is fast becoming one of the dirtiest state in naija, do I have to talk bout the drainage system?the educational sector of the state no even follow sef, yet the people are smiling and praising him for doing rubbish. Until the people come to understand that they have a say in the political matters concerning the state and start taking action they will continue to suffer untold hardship.
Take bauchi state governor for instance i heard the man almost got Lynched in the central mosque by the people, he was stoned and he had to run with The help of his aids for safety. No body told him to pay teacher their salary he withheld for two months sharp sharp the man payed. Now he can't pray in the central mosque for fear of being lynched.
I dont get why people are so selfish and self centered. They do things without thinking bout the poor masses who voted them into power.
Naija Is one fhucked up country wallahi. Every tin Is simply fucked.
