1- Fracas as Edo Assembly impeaches speaker, deputy
There was pandemonium yesterday within the Edo State House of Assembly amid sporadic gunshots as the Speaker, Victor Edoror was impeached by 16 of the 24 members of the assembly.
Thugs invaded the chamber shooting everywhere and in the process, not less than six persons were injured.Trouble started when the Majority Leader, Folly Ogedegbe, moved a motion for the impeachment of the speaker and the Deputy Speaker, Bright Osayande. The motion was seconded by the member representing Esan North East, Patrick Iluobe.
2-Power sector records four system collapses in four weeks
The nation’s power sector is apparently characterised with numerous challenges that have continued to halt power evacuation and supply to the yearning consumers. Indeed, the transmission grid has recorded no fewer than four system collapses in four weeks.
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has however blamed the low generation on shortage of gas supply to the thermal plants. As at yesterday, electricity generation dropped to 3,167 MW from 3,351MW on Monday,
3- Trump sets to win as Cruz crashes out
Donald Trump looked all-but-certain of carrying the Republican Party colors in the 2016 presidential election after the billionaire political novice sent his only serious challenger Ted Cruz crashing out of the race.
Addressing jubilant supporters at Trump Tower in New York after romping to his seventh straight state-wide victory in the Indiana primary, the real estate mogul promised them: "We're going to win in November, and we're going to win big, and it's going to be America first."
4- Lagos modular refinery to begin production next year
The Integrated Oil and Gas Limited has confirmed that its 20,000 bpd modular refinery is on course and will be coming on stream in 2017.
Manager, Media Relations/Corporate Affairs, Enyeribe Anyanwu, in a statement said: “The modular refinery which is located at Tomaro Island off the coast of Apapa port zone is expected to come on stream next year,”
5- Nigeria’s oil exports drop, 20 cargoes remain unsold
Indications have emerged that Nigeria will export about 52 cargoes of crude oil in June, representing a drop from 55 cargoes slated for May in the futures market.
The preliminary loading schedule showed that the nation will be exporting about 1.57 million barrels per day (bpd) during the period as against 1.6 million bpd recorded in May. This is coming as about 20 May cargoes remained available.
6- ‘About 15 million Nigerians are asthmatic’
The President of Nigerian Thoracic Society (NTS), Prof. Etete Peters, has said that about 15 million of the country’s population are suffering from asthma, adding that over 400 million people are asthmatic worldwide.
He added that in 2025 the number of people likely to suffer from asthma will be over 100 million people, stressing that it is the most common chronic disease in children.
7- DPR warns marketers against adulteration, selling above pump price
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has vowed to continue to clamp down on the depots and filling stations selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol above regulated price of N86.50 per litre.
DPR has also warned petroleum products depots, filling stations and other stakeholders to desist from unwholesome activities of adulteration, hoarding, diversion and pump manipulation.
8- Customs impounds N26.4m smuggled rice, vegetable oil
The Federal Operations Units (FOU) of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone ‘A’ Ikeja has impounded 1,499 bags of rice and 3,071 cartons of smuggled frozen poultry products valued at N26.4million.
According to the Controller of the Unit, Comptroller Umar Mohammed Dahiru, the illegal consignments were seized by a surveillance team led by Deputy Suprintendent of Customs, Ohagwu Jude.

10- Abducted former minister

The abducted former minister of state for education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, has been rescued. Anisulowo was kidnapped last Wednesday on Igbogila Road in Yewa North Local Government
of Ogun State on her way from her farm located at Sawonjo, Yewa South of the State. Ogun State Police Command spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the news said the former
minister was rescued at about 7pm at
Gbegbelawo, a suburb of Olorunda town, located in Yewa North local government of the state.
