The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a ‘doctor’, identified only as Abiodun, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 26-year-old ulcer patient in the Ipaja Ayobo area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Abiodun, a trado-medical doctor, who had his health centre – Damola Healthcare – on Agbaje Street, was arrested on Tuesday by the Isokoko Police Division.
The Family Support Unit of the division was said to be in charge of the matter.
Our correspondent gathered that the victim, Funmilayo (pseudonym), who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, and lives two streets away from the centre, had in December 2015, gone to the place to complain about ulcer.
It was learnt that Abiodun’s workers had prescribed some herbal drugs for the lady, telling her that she would pay N18,000 for comprehensive treatment. The victim reportedly deposited N10,000.
When there was no improvement in the lady’s condition, she requested to meet with Abiodun for further counselling in January 2016. Abiodun was said to have taken over Funmilayo’s treatment from his workers.
It was learnt that the ‘doctor’ on January 17, after conducting some tests on the patient, allegedly told her that she had womb infections and she needed to be further examined, asking her to come back two days later by 9am.
PUNCH Metro gathered that on January 19, Funmilayo, who was said to be afraid of testing positive for womb infections, got to the hospital around 7am and waited at the reception.
When Abiodun arrived at about 8am, he invited the patient to his office and allegedly asked her to undress to have her private parts examined.
It was gathered that Abiodun, however, allegedly raped Funmilayo, and thereafter begged the patient not to disclose the incident to anyone.
A police source told PUNCH Metro that Funmilayo, however, reported the matter at the Ayobo Police Division, when she discovered in February 2016, that she was pregnant, and the ‘doctor’ allegedly told her to have an abortion.
She said, “The ‘doctor’ agreed he had an affair with her, but he insisted that the victim should get rid of the pregnancy. The lady insisted that she would not risk her life to go for an abortion since she was not promiscuous. When the matter got to the Ayobo division, the ‘doctor’ was arrested and made to promise to take care of the lady. But after he was granted bail, the promise was not kept.”
Our correspondent learnt that the matter was later brought to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Alausa, which referred the victim to Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, for a checkup.
It was gathered that the DSVRT thereafter requested the matter to be transferred to the Isokoko division and the doctor was re-arrested.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Funmilayo, a National Diploma holder from a polytechnic in Lagos State, described what went on in the suspect’s office as shocking, adding that she could no longer keep the rape a secret when she found out she was pregnant.
She said, “On that day, when he arrived, we went into his office. He asked me to lie on the bed as he would insert a rubber tool into my private parts for examination. I did. My legs were far apart. He did that for some minutes, and suddenly I noticed he inserted his private parts.
“I shouted, but the cleaner did not come in. He stopped when he ejaculated. Immediately, he began to apologise that he did not know what came over him. I vowed not to return to the centre. I did not tell anybody because I thought I should just forget about it.
“It was in February that I found out I could not menstruate. I went for a scan, but nothing showed. By March, I went for another scan, and it showed that I was pregnant for six weeks and four days. When I informed him, he suggested abortion, which I rejected. That was how the trouble began.”
When PUNCH Metro called Abiodun’s phone number on Wednesday, it rang out several times.
The DSVRT Coordinator, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, warned female patients to insist on having a female nurse around in the hospital room, whenever their private parts were to be examined by a male doctor.
She said, “This is a rape by a traditional doctor which has now resulted in pregnancy. We requested that the case be transferred to the Family Support Unit of the Isokoko division from Ayobo division. The Department of Public Prosecutions has also requested the duplicate case file. The DSVRT has referred the victim to the OPD to get legal representation. She is also being given antenatal care at the Mirabel Centre.
“It must be emphasised that women must ensure that a female nurse is in the examination room whenever their private parts are to be examined by a male doctor. If that was done in this case, such sexual assault would not have taken place.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed Abiodun’s arrest.
She said, “The ‘doctor’ has been arrested. The case is still under investigation.”
Another one???
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahahahahaha...
Nawa ooooh
DeleteAnd dem say nothing dey toto? Hummm toto na spiritual something!
ReplyDeleteAs if the doctor will not use sense to send the female nurse out on one kind errand wey no make make sense.what the man has done is really bad,his patients are supposed to feel safe and relaxed when they go for care.i know some people will come here and rant that she's an adult at 26yrs old,yes she is but these things can make one go into shock mode that you won't even be able to do nothing at that time that the rape was going on.The man's hospital should be closed down, but trust naija govt,he would end up going unpunished, very lawless country.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm! When will rape ever stop? N dis man will end of being someone's husband tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteEnd time dokita
ReplyDeleteRape is evil and the perpetrators of Rape should be severely hung.I suggest castration.
ReplyDeleteBut lady victims should learn to make dis easier for themselves.
Report rape IMMEDIATELY!
Now this case is somehow.I can't judge it the way i would have ordinarily judged a rape case cos of some factors here.especially bearing in mind that some ladies cry foul after mutual "Canoe-Paddling"
*Why didn't she report the case immediately?
She resurrected the case when she found out she was preggers. And according to her she went to the said man and told him about it and he suggested An abortion which she rejected. And in her own words "...That was when the trouble began....
She ealier said she forgave d man after he begged and didnt tell anyone cos she totally wanted to forget about it....
So why come out now?
Why make thing complicated?Cos Cos,I wouldn't want to send an inmocent man to prison because a lady cried Rape. This only came to light cos according to you,he failed to take care of u.
There should have bn NO negotiation whatsoever.Report the Act and Suffer the Evil doer.
*Musing to self*
Will never understand why some vile excuse of Men rape women.
If u know the shame associated to rape you wouldn't ask why she didn't report immediately and also given the circumstance with which it happened.
DeleteMy dear GW, you got it right when u said that she wanted that incident behind her, hence she didn't report it. But for the pregnancy, she had to speak up because the man added salt to her injury by refusing the pregnancy.
DeleteTherefore she had to lay it bare that it wasn't a relationship ab-inotio, but rape. Meaning that she cannot bear the responsibility of an unwanted pregnancy. As I imagine the society would have judged her to carry her cross after the man refused, that after all she opened her legs bla bla. So the girl is on track, she did the right thing and the man is the devil whom God just wants to punish and expose at all cost. Imagine he didn't fight the girl, this matter wouldn't have come up at all.
I'm sure he is a married man with plenty wives and many concubines breeding bastards upandan!...
ReplyDeleteAnother Useless yaraba demon!...
All these babalawo doctors on the prowl.
ReplyDeleteCongrat to her, she can now give birth. This opening of legs for doctors to be looking for their heads inside, i just dont understand.
If you want your patient to undress, a woman nurse or babalawo woman should be there too
Hahahaha.
DeleteThis is becoming a trend... doctors raping their female patients. 3rd case am reading about just this week. Just sad. Someone would think that with all the countless number of private parts they see almost on a daily, they will have better control of themselves... oh well, what do I know?
ReplyDeleteNative doctor. I hope you read well.
DeleteTrey mama dat guy is not a 'doctor'
DeleteOh,my bad. Since I woke up and discovered a liter of fuel's now 145,not sure i've done anything well.
DeleteLmao @ love me jeje. You comment cracked me up.
ReplyDeleteTHE MAN IS NOT A DOCTOR BUT A TRADO HEALER.WHY CAN'T PEOPLE GO TO REAL HOSITALS TO AVOID ALL THESE STORIES THAT TOUCH
ReplyDeleteThe O people and rape story everyday. Na waaa oooh
ReplyDeleteWhat normal 26yr old educated person would tell this sort of rubbish story. Were your hands bound? Was it not just one man? B4 you realized it was his penis he had already ejaculated? Ooo plsss. Ladies we all should get smarter. Accusing one of rape wen we fall out with them isn't just right... The society and press don't even help matters. Once a woman cries rape we are soo fast to tilt in her favor which is all shades of wrong.we should always make room for the slightest possibility it could all be fabricated.
ReplyDeleteDon't mind her, it's cos it resulted in pregnancy that's y she called it rape. Rape pregnancies r usually terminated. D fucked her till he released jor! She consented!
DeleteI guess its adverse reaction on ewedu and amala that's causing this too much rape cases in S-West region. #MyThought
ReplyDeleteMao Akuh or whatever you don crase abi? Are these stories not being reported in South west, which ppl are plenty in south west.
ReplyDeleteYour people in dere bush underdeveloped state that some don't even have road not to talk of news paper. How will the story be reported.

Do you people have a Journalist there, asides spare part and chemist traders ? Bunch of uneducated illiterates, that never sit in their states and develop it. Na so so waka waka. That is why in decision making politics you people no gather. Na boy boy to Yoruba and Hausa you ppl are good at.
Till the eternity of Nigeria u ppl will keep shouting Biafra and ordinary seat of power like presidency. You ppl will never smell it.
Keep giving away ur birth rite for the sack of money, Okkkk.
Anon 14:34 you sound retarded. Tackle the topic and leave the commenter alone. U gat too much hate in u mheen and that's a disease. Tweeeeeeeeh.
ReplyDeletekeep doubting there..did u not read where she said he begged her and she accepted not to make noise about it....not every woman believes in abortion and am sure the man denied when the pregnancy happened....how do u expect her to live with the shame of denied pregnancy and make her look like a slut....she has to prove to people she doesn't sleep around so the owner of the pregnancy has to accept and bear the responsibility...i just see the case of a woman trying to preserve her dignity....u both need to be ashamed of yourselves as women for slut shaming another woman...HAVING SEX WITH A WOMAN WITHOUT HER CONSENT IS RAPE, PERIOD.
ReplyDeleteGod bless u
DeleteHah madam 26yrs u don't knw wen rubber became dick abi?? Till e ejaculated ahn ahn jst say d tin sweet u,,lol
