CAF Fines Nigeria N.975m Over Crowded Stadium

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has slammed a $5000 fine on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for overcrowding and lack of adequate security in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 qualifying game in March.

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, which sat in Johannesburg, South Africa, on April 18, fined Nigeria for failing to control the number of people who got into the stadium for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Egypt.

The Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, which seats 20,000 spectators, had almost double the number of spectators allowed though the game passed without any major incidents.

The fine also comes with a stern warning to the federation as regards crowd control with stiffer sanctions to be meted out if such an incident occurred again.
CAF also fined the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) $5000 dollars for excessive use of laser beams during the AFCON 2017 qualifying game with Nigeria in Alexandria.

Nigeria was held to a 1-1 draw in Kaduna and then lost 1-0 to Egypt to effectively end the Super Eagles’ quest for a ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon in 2017.
