Accident Scene Photos...

Is it right to snap and send accident scene photos to the social media whilst some of these victims lay fighting for their lives or are already dead and some naked?

IT IS WRONG!

This is a subtle plea to those who send me such photos, please I do not post such so stop sending,if i have ever posted such before,my mindset regarding respecting dead bodies has changed.

Yesterday my inbox was full of emails from a BV who witnessed an accident scene in the Eastern part of Nigeria, the whole ground was littered with half torn apart dead bodies and blood,OMG,it was gruesome and the mailer kept sending more and more,I had a horrible time sleeping last night because i viewed the photos and kept imagining their last thoughts as they perished so horribly....

Please send me any other kind of news if you have and want to contribute to the growth of this OUR blog but note that i do not post such photos,I just needed to clarify this again and i hope no one will take offence to this.

Imagine if you lose someone so dear and have to be reminded everytime of their mangled body because it is posted online?let the dead rest and let the living respect that please.I have lost three of my family members and today i remember them and smile,I dont know how i would feel i have to use google and run into their dead body photos put online by a supposed good samaritan who witnessed it.....that would break me.

They are gone and resting and i only remember them with love...RESPECT THE DEAD AND KEEP YOUR PHONE CAMERA OFF WHEN YOU RUN INTO AN ACCIDENT SCENE!..If you disagree with me,then ask yourself how it would feel if it happened to you.

It is a crime now in Germany if you take photos of an accident scene and your crime is even worse if you post it online.I am one of those who applaud this law.

Thank you and God bless..Have a nice week.

    2. I have always said it. That was how half nude photos of Ronke was circulated al lover the whole place. What is the reason for that? Did anyone argue that she didn't die? What is the importance of the pictures? Cos after everything they still needed an autopsy to identify the cause of death an not that the picture even showed the stupid man committing the crime.
I have also wondered if anyone that takes those pictures will do it if it happened to their relatives.
No one should tell me that those pictures are taken for identification because most times it is dead bodies that they snap in a position that no one will be able to identify nothing. If you do the right thing by taking them to the hospital first, the hospital workers will now take the photos properly for identification.
I have said it befor and I will say it again, anyone that meets an accident scene and the first thing they did is to bring out phones and take pictures to send to blogs will suffer the same fate.
The bloggers and media people that use their platform t encourage this ignorance will also meet the same fate. If what you do is right, then you shouldn't be sad that someone is wishing you the same fate.
You will be in an accident and the people that are meant to help you will gather and be taking pictures, they will even block genuine helpers and keep capturing your helpless moments.
Eka Joy, if you like come here and continue your noisy gong.

    3. Yes,its so bad.why are they even uploading it?

    4. EKA JOY, you will now decide to be silent on this case. Was this not why you decided to have an argument with me because I wished the fate of the victims they are abusing by taking their pictures in the most inhumane manner to post on social media. I wish the same fate on them, both the photo journalist wannabe and the people using it to drive traffic. YES! I still stand by it. I hope you have changed from doing that because I know I struck that nerve.
Ask your self one question before ever you do something to someone "IF THIS WERE TO BE ME, WILL I FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT"? Do unto others, what you would they do unto you.

    5. Finally you decided to comment on this.. You remember this mail Auntie Stella?

TAKING PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF OTHER PEOPLE'S PREDICAMENTS SHOULD NOT BE OUR FIRST RESPONSE IN TIMES OF CRISIS AND ACCIDENTS.
FOR GOD SAKES THOSE PICTURES AND VIDEOS WOULD NOT MAKE US BELIEVE YOUR STORY LESS.
IF INDEED OUR HEARTS ARE RIGHT, WE SHOULD FIND WAYS OF HELPING VICTIMS AND BEING SAFE OURSELVES RATHER THAN TAKING PICTURES AND VIDEOS.
HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU COME ONLINE AND FIND GRUESOME PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF YOUR LOVED ONES AND FRIENDS CIRCULATING ALL IN THE NAME OF PROVIDING INFORMATION AND CREATING AWARENESS.
EVEN BEFORE YOU GET TO KNOW OF THEIR TERRIBLE FATE, WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR RIGHTS AND PRIVACY?
I THINK WE'VE ALL TAKEN THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TOO FAR AND IT HAS BECOME AN ABUSE.
BEFORE YOU TAKE THOSE PICTURES, VIDEOS OR EVEN SHARE THAT LINK WITH YOUR FRIENDS PLEASE APPEAL TO YOUR HEART FIRST, PLEASE THINK.
DON'T TRY TO IMPRESS OR IMPROVE YOUR AUDIENCE OVER SOMEONE ELSE'S PREDICAMENTS.
THERE SHOULD BE A LINE DRAWN TO THIS...
I JUST WANT TO MAKE ‪#‎commonsense‬.

    6. Most people carry some form of identification why not search for that and post it....dont know how anyone is meant to recognise a mangled body.

Unam ikot. Come and mention my name again. Oloshi, Ikeji aja

    9. Devilish insensitive people everywhere!!

Can they not report an accident without putting such graphic photos ?

Even with the viewers discretion, it is wrong and insensitive.

How do you want their loved one's to feel seeing their bodies littered all over social media?

      Nigerians are sick people jare.

    1. What is ds one saying...and oh I'm referring 2u stella.
Though it ain't right 2some extent bt how then do u want the family to know about the whereabout of their loved one(s)?
We all know most of these transport companies are full of lies. Most of them get to claim none of their cars were involved in an accident nor d victim ever being a passenger all in a bid to avoid compensating.
Not too long ago we all read about the abduction of those twins.regardless of d interview given by other passengers,d company denied having knowledge of such occurrence not until social media went abuzz with pictures of d said vehicle as @d time of d incident surfaced

IMO,it has its pros and cons

      Delete
    2. Even in d uk, u can't post such pictures.. Nigeria dsnt have a data base, that's one of our problems in identifying citizens

      Delete
    3. Elena, you are very stupid. To even think you are a doctor with an IQ of someone with mental retardation leaves me wondering how you even arrive at diagnosis in wherever you work.
If someone like you should reason like this, the average market woman and nomads will now reason how?
Why can't the poster mention the name of the transport line, the vehicle plate number, the location of the accident and where the vehicle was moving to?
Do you think that the victims don't have family members that will be trying to reach them on phone?
Accident victims can hardly be recognised because of tissue swelling and severe injuries they must have sustained. Stop Justifying this evil act because you are guilty of it .
Have you worked in accident and emergency before? Do you think the way most of them present from the site of the accident is the way a relative will recognize them after the accident with face battered and all clothing covered with blood and most of them naked?
Why don't you as a doctor go round the hospital and take pictures and put up randomly on social media? Do it for whatever reason and see if you will not get sacked. Even if you have someone in a hospital that needs identification, the management with follow due process and release a decent picture of the patient and not aim at showing how horrific the injury is.
If you want people to identify someone that had his legs cut off in an accident, you then leave the persons face and go and concentrate on snapping the legs that were cut off ,it just shows that your aim is not to identify the person but to just pull traffic with a horrific picture.
Even in hospitals, before they put a photo for identification, they would have done the initial treatment and cleaned up the face a bit for better ID. Don't come here and talk nonsense.
These people go scot free because they are faceless people. It is all shades of wrong. Even when there was no phone in Nigeria, people have accidents and their relatives still trace them.

    4. What is the pro? So your loved one travels and all the passengers of the bus do not arrive and you think the company will then lie about their arrival? You must be one of those overzealous we must snap people.

  4. Eburu ozu onye ozo n'agafe, odi ka ebu osisi.

Most people don't feel emphaty especially when it's not them that was affected. If any of their family members gets involved in an accident and dies, I bet they won't like it if the pictures are plastered on blogs.

    2. Exactly, they will even block the road for people that genuinely want to help because they want to capture a good view. They never ask WHAT IF IT IS MY DAUGHTER OR SIBLING? Very stupid attitude because it can affect any of us.
If all blogs stop posting such things, they won't be encouraged to do that in the first place.
People do anything for traffic and I hope if it is their loved one, they will also use it for traffic.

  6. Thank you stella.

It's even more appalling that some would even stop by just to take pictures without even rendering help to the injured.

Everybody just take pictures indiscriminately now, no thanks to the proliferation of phones, if it was the good old days of huge camera and "films" that could run out; one would sieve what to take pictures of and what not.

  7. I respect your opinion stella.

It's so crazy, that instead of helping in such situation if you can still help, our people will bring out camera phone and start taking shots.

Myself and a guy jumped in to help a drowning girl at pool, while other people around were making jest of her, with their camera phone all out. That's one of a case

It should be an offence really!

Also did u take your time to reply the person that sent u those Pics via email that u don't post such pics on ur blog Bkos som1 can send u pics ND won't have the time to come on here to read this ur take on it. For that person to capture that picture while those people were still in that position means that he/she did not help anything.
Or what kind of nonsense help are you giving when the first thing you did is to take photos. NONSENSe!

  18. This thing started Intially as a way to inform the public and all these traffic officials of d severity of an accident and all, location of d accident and all that. But it has now bin abused u wld see terribly disturbing accident pictures on the Internet with no reason what so ever for them to b dere. These are some of d bills out govt shld look into, banning of taking pictures of accident victims. We also need to improve d response time of all dese emergency bodies( NEMA and co.) so dt dey can disperse on lookers quickly
