Nigerian Army Orders General Who Masterminded Rigging Of Ekiti Governorship Election To Resign

The Nigerian Army has ordered Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh, who achieved notoriety by overseeing the rigging of a governorship election in Ekiti State in 2014, to resign.

Minister of Defense, Dan Ali, disclosed the plan to end General Momoh’s military career in an exclusive interview in Washington, DC. Mr. Ali was in the US as part of the Nigerian delegation at a nuclear power summit convened by President Barack Obama of the United States of America.

The Nigerian Defense Minister revealed that the army decided to initiate the process of rusticating General Momoh who was indicted last year by a military panel.

General Momoh led a contingent of soldiers and other security agencies who intimidated voters and inhibited the movement of officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a broad strategy that was reportedly approved by former President Goodluck Jonathan to enable Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to defeat then incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi.

A former Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro, was used as a conduit to transfer huge sums of funds for the rigging operation. Mr. Obanikoro, who faces a separate investigation for money laundering, reportedly used the corporate account of his son’s firm to receive more than N4.7 billion for the election. The funds were then distributed among Mr. Fayose, Senator Iyiola Omisore and security agents who carried out the rigging.
The full version of Mr. Ali’s interview with SaharaReporters will be posted soon.

  2. I have listened to the audio recording. I listened to it when the army guy who was in the room recorded the conversation released the audio after he fled out of Nigeria. It is very true. Fayose and all those mentioned were on the audio planning the rigging of the election in Ekiti state. I don't understand why Fayose is still Governor of that state.

Stella please add the audio to this post to back it up. It's old news because it happened last year but the truth about the rigging should not be swept under the carpet. Fayose rigged the election in Ekiti state and still has the guts to make noise and criticize everybody not to talk of not doing anything for Ekiti state. Very useless man.

  8. Stella seto!!! It was all over the place at the time. Audios that were undeniably voices of Obanikoro with his distinct accent and my dearest governor fayose being his usual roguish self was heard. A junior officer for reasons best known to him caught the jyst with his phone recording device. It was an exciting time and only a first class idiot will say it was a lie. But like most things in Nigeria, it was swept under the carpet at the time whilst another scandal rocked Nigeria which ofcos was swept under .

I'm a full fledged supporter of governor fayose cos he seems fearless. But even I couldn't deny it at the time that the audio and all evidences was 99.9% true. But I like governor fayose so I was still happy he was sworn in.
