1- High rate of unemployment bothers me, says Dangote
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President, Dangote Group, has said that topmost on his priority is how to contribute his own quota towards reducing the high rate of unemployment in the country, stressing that, he is bothered by the unemployment rate.
Speaking recently at the ground breaking ceremony of the new 6 million metric tons capacity cement plant, located in Okpella, Edo state, the business mogul said with more of his cement plants ready for commissioning in the next few months, more qualified youth will be gainfully employed.
2- Kachikwu, oil ministers hold crucial summit in Doha
The attention of the global oil and gas community has virtually descended on Doha, capital of the State of Qatar venue of Sunday’s crucial Oil-Producing Countries Ministerial Meeting convoked to seek remedy to the lingering decline in the price of crude oil in the international market.
Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu is already in Doha where preliminary meetings among top oil producing ministers has commenced.
3- Nigeria has not applied for an IMF loan – Adeosun
Nigeria, which is going through its worst economic crisis in years, has not turned to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial assistance because it is “not sick”, its finance minister said.
“Nigeria is not sick and even if we are, we have our own local remedy,” said Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun on Friday at a panel discussion in Washington where she attended spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank.
Adeosun’s spokesman, Festus Akanbi, said the comment was “an apparent response to a question on why the government has refused to apply for IMF loans”.
Discussions between Nigeria and the World Bank are continuing on a possible loan or credit facility that would be tied to policy reforms.
4-Lagos taskforce arrests notorious hoodlum, 15 others in Gbagada
The Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested a suspected notorious hoodlum leader, Tunde Aigboje, popularly Called “Tallest” and 15 members of his gang who usually terrorized people around Gbagada and Oworonshoki areas of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
5- We stand with Nigeria in battle against Boko Haram – UK
The United Kingdom says it is supporting Nigeria in the ongoing war against the Boko Haram insurgents.
UK Minister for International Development, Nick Hurd, told NAN in Abuja that UK had a very long cordial relationship with Nigeria.
“The very long partnership between UK and Nigeria matters a great deal to us; even my Prime Minister has made it very clear that we stand shoulder to shoulder with Nigeria in the battle against Boko Haram.
6- Police recover guns, live ammunition at Alaba market
There is tension in the furniture section of Alaba International market in Ojo local government after the police reportedly recovered catch of arms and live ammunition in the market in Lagos State western Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS gathered that detective from Area E Festac Command stormed and recovered high caliber guns such as pump actions, double barrels, short guns and live ammunitions in the market.
Thus, the leader of the market, Mr Emeka Mozoba and some of the security men in the market were arrested and detained at Festac police command.
The discovery and arrest caused panic in the market as some of the executives went into hiding to avoid arrest.
7- Aguero best striker in premier league – Pellegrini
Manager Manuel Pellegrini says Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is the best striker in the Premier League.
Aguero, 27, scored a hat-trick against Chelsea on Saturday to move to 21 league goals this season, one behind leading scorer Harry Kane of Tottenham.
The Argentine has scored 99 Premier League goals in five seasons at City.
8- Pipeline Vandalism, worst kind of terrorism – Osinbajo
Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said that the federal and state government are committed to ensure the quick repair of the vandalized 48 crude pipeline at Focardos Export Terminal to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview with journalists on Friday after an inspection
visit to the terminal, Osinbajo condemned the act of vandalism, explaining that it is as bad as any kind of terrorism and would not be tolerated by government because it is criminal and as an adverse effect on the economy.
9- Nigerians turn against Saraki saying#NotOurSenatePresident
Nigerians have dramatically turned against its senate president, Bukola Saraki disowning him as their number three citizen and have also called for his
resignation. On Twitter, using #NotOurSenatePresident, Nigerians flayed Saraki’s repeated failure to
stall or halt his false asset declaration trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
10- IGR: Lagos State is ‘King’ in Nigeria
When it comes to internally generated revenue in Nigeria, no state comes
anywhere near Lagos state, Nigeria’s former capital state and commercial nerve centre.
In a report released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Friday in Abuja, the 36 states in the country have generated about N682.7 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2015 fiscal year.
An analysis of the report showed that Lagos state generated the highest IGR of N268.2 billion, followed by Rivers state with N82.1 billion and Delta with N40.8 billion.
