1- Minister tackles Senate about Lagos-Calabar rail
There seems to be no end to the bitter row over the budget.
Budget and National Planning Minister Udo Udoma yesterday said members of the Federal Executive Council were still studying the details to guide President Muhammadu Buhari to sign it into law.
He also said the Lagos – Kano and Calabar – Lagos rail lines are projects in the budget, adding that a N60billion provision in the counterpart funding to support the Chinese financing of the projects.
He cleared Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi of any wrongdoing and stressed that there was no going back on the two priority projects.
2- Chibok girls will be found soon- Shettima
The governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima disclosed Tuesday that the 276 Chibok girls who were abducted on April 14th 2014 will soon be united with their families.
Shettima disclosed this during a visit to the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA in Abuja, stating that based on the information at his disposal the Chibok girls are still alive.
He said, “I am an optimist, and based on the information at our disposal the Chibok girls are still alive and will be united with their families soon, we are hopeful that the girls will be recovered.
3- China offers Nigeria $6b loan to fund projects
China has offered Nigeria a $6 billion loan to fund infrastructure projects, Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama told reporters on President Muhammadu Buhari’s delegation, according to Reuters.
“It is a credit that is on the table as soon as we identify the projects,” Onyeama said, adding: “It won’t need an agreement to be signed; it is just to identify the projects and we access it.”
4- Troops Raid Militants And Pirates In Bayelsa
Troops of the Joint Force, Operation Pulo Shield (OPS) have recovered 14 AK-47 from gunmen suspected to be militants and pirates operating in Bayelsa and Delta states.
The troops killed one of the suspected pirates, whose gang engaged them in a gun duel at Idema in Ogbia Local Government of Bayelsa State. The troops of Sector 2 also raided suspected militant camps in Gbarain, Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa State, and recovered three AK-47. Other items recovered were Magnum double-barrelled gun, 273 rounds of 7.62 mm Special, empty magazines of AK-47, one empty magazine of FN rifle and nine packs of explosives.
5- Senate begins move to amend CCB, CCT Acts
THE Senate yesterday commenced the process of amending the Code of Conduct Act, amid the controversy trailing the ongoing trial of Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The proposed legislation, entitled: “Code of Conduct Act CAP C15 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (SB 248)”, scaled the crucial first reading seamlessly in the upper chamber yesterday.
6- ABDCUTION OF CHIBOK GIRLS …TWO YEARS AFTER
Tomorrow will make it two years since the Chibok girls were taken away from their dormitories and hope for recovery of the teenage girls is fasting fading.
On the night of April 14, 2014, members of the Boko Haram group abducted some 219 girls – a globally unprecedented number for any form of kidnapping.
7- Jumoke Orisaguna returns to school
Bread seller turned model, Olajumoke Orisaguna has headed back to the classroom. The lovely mother of two whose picture went viral when she stumbled on TY Bello’s set in February this year has wisely started a program with Poise Nigeria, a Nigerian etiquette and finishing school run by Mavis Isibor. Jumoke is presently taking courses at the upscale Lekki campus in English Grammar and Communication, and also in Total Personality Development.
8- EFCC arraigns ex-NIMASA DGs for alleged theft
THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arraigned former Acting Directors-General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Calistus Obi and Haruna Jauro at the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged N682.9 million fraud.
9- Kidnapping stifling N’Delta development, says NDDC
Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Tuesday, lamented the negative effects of kidnapping saying violence against contractors was stifling development of the Niger Delta region.
Acting Managing Director of NDDC, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, was particularly unhappy over the recent killing of two soldiers and an abduction of an expatriate attached to a construction firm, Setraco, in Bayelsa State.
10- AMAA goes to Port Harcourt
From Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where it held its last edition, foremost pan-African reward scheme, the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) is repeating a prefix, with plans to host its 2016 edition in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the award show will hold on June 11, to be preceeded with a Nominations Gala on May 11; another suffix in date, that appears a stylish coincidence.

Lagos to Calabar by bus is 12hrs, that is if the bus is fast with no random stop over, it us a very welcomed idea, we need it. Way to go Jumoke. ReplyDeleteIlorin road transport union, there is God O. No cab, or napep, only bikes. How do people move from their homes to work. Most public schools had to be closed down today because the teachers, who haven't been paid for almost six months, couldn't make it to schools due to lack of public transportation. Why try to grind activities in the town to a halt? Now that you are on strike, who will go hungry? No be una? Abeg you people should receive sense.
