Doctors In House Section.

Hmmm,good question for the Docs....

BLEEDING AFTER CHILD BIRTH
Good day Stella ,Please help me post this in Doctor's section.
What could be the cause of bleeding after child birth which most times leads to the death of the mother. And how to prevent it.

I have been worried over this issue for sometimes now because I know 2 people who lost their wife to this within months.

Doctors your opinions are highly needed here.

May God keep all women who enter the delivery room alive with their babies. IJN
Thank you Stella.

    1. Register for antenatal in a good hospital

    2. I don't think antenatal has much to do with it. Less than two years ago my little sister was so healthy. She never play with her health whenever she is pregnant but upon giving birth she began to bleed and gave up within minutes. I think that's the most painful death women go through.

  6. A Doctor told me that if a woman was induced in her first pregnancy, she shouldn't be induced again to avoid bleeding. May be there are other causes, visit a hospital/Doctor.

  7. After 30 mins of delivery,my mum said I should urinate that it helps to stop bleeding,if she's too weak to get up,the nurse can suck up the urine with one device like that.
Don't massage your tummy with hot water immediately

    1. A full bladder can prevent the womb from contracting,so urinating should reduce that risk.

    2. You are right! Even if u are not press, try to urinate to avoid full bladder. Happen to me I was not press, so I descend 2 just relax n make calls, n wen I stood up blood was gushing out. Luckly 4 me a nurse was standby with me. She say I should never try dat again oh! That even if I'm not press, I should just try n urinate.

  9. Stella is now expert in doctor's question. You dont know the hospital you delivered and ask them that question. stay there, dont go and take care of your health.

    Stupid questions everytime

  10. A lot of things can cause postpartum haemorrhage ranging from trauma to the uterus or any of the reproductive organ to infection to retained fetal membrane and some of these can be prevented or managed by the clinician, if there is retained fetal membrane is left for the clinician to monitor the patient and know when to take the proper action.

    2. Bleed for 1 to 2 months ke??? Please u people should stop visiting quacks. Any bleeding more than 2 weeks max, then there's problem!

    3. After delivery i only "spotted" for a week oh. Though the doctor said I recovered really fast. But 1 month? Nah. Thats definitely an infection.

  11. It could be due to genital tears/lacerations,failure of the womb to contract after delivery or bleeding disorders.
These deaths could be reduced through education, antenatal care in approved health facilities, prompt referral of high risk pregnancies to secondary/tertiary centres and good blood transfusion services.
The joy of pregnancy is seeing a healthy mother and baby . wishing all pregnant women safe deliveries.

  15. That is why i thank God everyday for making me give birth abroad. They usually give an injection to stop post partum haemorrhage. My last labour and delivery doctor was a 28 year old man. He massaged my belly gentle to retrieve the placenta.

    1. U sound dumb, giving birth abroad does not guarantee no bleeding and there is not drug to stop any serious bleeding only a minor. I gave birth in Florida and bled for hours. Was given 11pints of blood and even the doctors and nurses kept telling me the next day that my God is good. My advice to women is listen to ur body if u bleed a little during this delivery don't have anymore kids. ONCE YOU BLEED IN ANY DELIVERY YOU WILL ALMOST ALWAYS BLEED IN SUBSEQUENT DELIVERY SO DONT GET PREGNANT AGAIN. IF YOUR DOCTOR SAYS ITS CS DONT ARGUE JUST DO IT DONT TRY TO PRAY IT AWAY. HEBREW WOMAN IS ONE WHO LIVES TO CARRY HER BABY NOT ONE WHO GIVES BIRTH VAGINALLY.

    2. Lol, instead of you to bless God for safe delivery, you are claiming abroad. So people don't die abroad ba. Money miss road.

    4. Anon 14:14 compare the maternal mortality rates in third world countries to the western world and you will discover that Nigeria has a lot of quack doctors. When bleed to death abroad too but if you check their health history, they probably have a rare blood disorder or other congenital illness. Why did you not stay in 9ja to give birth? Floride my behind!!!

      Delete
    5. 14:14 you are an ignorant fool. There are sub-standard hospitals everywhere in this country and doctors that bribed their way through med school. Pregnant women die for silly reasons in Nigeria... because there is no doctor to deliver them or mid wife...or there is no fuel in the gen.

  16. Post partums hemorrhage has a number of causes:cerival/genital tears, retained products of conception, failure of the uterus to contract on time(uterine atony),poor management of 2nd stage of labor(after d baby has come out, drugs to contract d uterus shld be given on time).....etc

    ReplyDelete
  17. Post partum haemorrhage occurs when there are still products of conception left in d woman's body like retained placenta. Some women don't allow d midwives to clean them up very well after delivery due to pains. Infection and lacerations in d woman vagina can also cause PPH. It's always manageable except when u patronise quack hospitals. May God continue to bless us all in his mercy. Pls can someone tell me how to get a moniker.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bleeding after delivery is called postpartum hemorrhage..and it's blood loss exceeding 500mls for normal delivery and 1000mls for Cs..when it occurs within 24hrs it's primary pph after 24hrs it's Secondary

Plz note it's an OBSTETRICS EMERGENCY .

And it's due to many factors I would explain using 4Ts..

1st Tone... Uterine aTony.. This is seen in multiparous women(given birth more than 5x) .............womenn who had macrosomic babies>4kg..women wit large fibroid in addition to the prEg..multiple pregnancy .
In this case.. The uterus expands alot and it more difficult for it to contract. This contraction is needed to clamp down on vessels to reduce bleeding.. But since the uterus is overstretched it difficult for it to contract and control bleeding the way God designed it..

2nd Tissue.... Retained placenta/tissue.. When there are products of conception left in the uterus.. It's difficultfor the uterus to contract completely and hence bleeding continues..

3rd Trauma....this could be genital tract laceration.. Uterine tear... If an epistomy was done.. Check if the episiorrhaphy was properly done..

4th Thrombin ....Disseminated intravascular coagulation accounts for the 4th reason.. Here the body basically uses up blood products that was supposed to make blood clot.. Hence patient bleeds excessively..

Also I advice that u use proper health facilities for ur deliveries

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi, you might just have a piece of placenta tissue that's why you still bleeding it's called retained placenta. Pls do visit the hospital, you should get a use done, this will assist in making quick diagnosis. Don't stay home drink hot water oo n all d crap you must have heard. Thanks
