    1. True that. You ask an undergraduate to write his or her name and you'll need to turn the paper upside down before you can read the hand writing.

  11. They are not deliberate, I have a Yoruba friend, he translates English as in the way he speaks his language, atimes up side down...

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lmao, when graduates will be incorporating writing on social media to writing proper english statements.. it is well!

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's possible. Or it might just be that the knowledge of written English disappeared. Maybe the camp caused that one. Or they just didn't learn anything in their God knows how many years at school. Or might just be typos

    ReplyDelete
  14. This wasn't deliberate Stella. ask your graduate Bvs

  15. While I can't be certain of their intentions...I can tell you stella that I served with someone whose oral English was that bad or even worse than the examples up there...

The first day I heard him speak, he asked my friend

"You look Cecilia, Do I Knew you?"

It was later we figured Cecilia was supposed to mean "Familiar"

  20. Goodluck to them.

My church member who finished also was retained by the good company she served. She did her deliverance in the church and that same Thursday that they finished. The company asked her not to go but to continue working with them as one of their new employees.

I pray for all those that finished that they get good jobs. They should not take up to 5 years to be roaming the streets of Lagos looking for employment.

  23. You'd be amazed at the amount of graduates who can't speak good English. It's sad really but I'm sure you'll see comments insulting them when some of the commenters can barely pass standard secondary school English themselves. Call them out and they'll say English is not their first language. Hypocrites

  26. They don't do it to trend o.

    If I hear!!

These days, being a graduate, is not a yardstick for knowing how intelligent or smart, one is.

    Half baked graduates everywhere.

That's how I told someone to tone down on the indecipherable shorthand he used to send me then, and he called me arrogant.

It's worse when you don't know, and are not willing to learn.

'Dis iz a vry btful dai. I tnk God 4 ma lyf. Tnx'

    Kk.

    Eisshh!

    1. Thanks.....a lot of people hide behind writing shorthands when they actually have issues with writing, reading and speaking English which is very bad.
I hold a management position and have been on interview panels. You Will cry if you see how graduates murder english. Can you imagine a situation where a graduate cannot read his CV he claimed to have written? I rest my case.

  29. There's this girl in my department who couldn't defend her seminar talk more of her project. She couldn't even say her name on the day of seminar and project defense but trust my girl to use all it takes to get her second class upper.

Well, as God may have it, she's now a house wife. Everyone in our set then that knew her said; it was the best thing she did for herself. Someone that can't speak English- always igbo 24/7.

The most important thing to them is that they are graduates and have fulfilled their duties of serving their father's land.
