Commotion in Festac As Police Kill 2 Fuel Black Marketers

There was commotion in Festac Town, Lagos, following the killing of two fuel black marketers by a task force made of Police and Civil Defence officials. The killing of the marketers occurred around 1pm at the Forte oil petrol station also known as AP bus stop located a 21 Road, I close.

It was gathered that trouble began when some black marketers resisted efforts by the task force who were seizing petroleum products from road side vendors and giving them out free to motorcycle riders.

When the security agents got to Forte oil petrol station, they became overwhelmed by several black marketers and began to shoot sporadically to disperse the crowd, killing two persons in the process.

Angered by the conduct of the security officials, some persons tried to set the petrol station on fire as a means of venting their anger, but this made the Police Civil Defence officials fire more rounds into the air to disperse the angry crowd. One black marketer named Shina was shot in the buttocks by a stray bullet, while others persons suffered varying degree of injuries in the process of running to safety.

As at the time of writing this report, smoke was seen billowing from the Forte Oil petrol station, but it was unclear if it was the petrol station that was in flames or some other object as Dailytimes reporter had to scamper for safety due to sporadic shooting by the police.

    2. Black marketets are saving lives ooo. Imagine i cant carry my gen to the filling station so i have to buy in gallons, and fuel station wont sell. The ones that sell charge 1k extra to buy 20litres in jerrycan, imagine, more than half the actual cost of the fuel.

The police should go and shoot those that actually commit serious crimes by bursting pipelines.

  12. Give us fuel, no, but they kill the people who have decided to go out of their way to give to us. These officials hardly queue at fuel stations to buy fuel that is why they have resulted to this. Must you use guns to attack people? And they are suppose to be the ones to protect us.

  16. Why on earth would the task force do that? Me, if I see black market now, I would buy! What they should do is to work towards making the fuel available everywhere! Rather than harming people up and down...

  18. I blame the government in all these happenings. Imagine telling people to go carry their generator tanks in order to buy fuel. Not like I wish to encourage black marketers, but it's my business if I wish to pay more for it. Abeg I don tire sef.

  22. I was there on Tuesday night and i live around that filing station. Firstly its was a civil defense woman that did the shooting. The force are the most corrupt people, the filing station said dey weren't selling in jerry cans but only to motorists yet these soldiers, navy, police nd civil defense corps would bring their vehicles skip the queue fill their tank and bring as many jerry cans they want, if theirs isn't enough they seize other people's jerrycans take the fuel and leave . Some when they come they start flogging people nd puncturing tires and beating okada men just to scare those that would complain about them skipping the line. Stella I witnessed all this with my eyes it was unbelievable. As at Tuesday everyone was angry at the men in the force, when people started resisting that they have had a enough a soldier told the person in charge to off the fuel pump from the office ( first time i knew that could be done) they are lawless in that AP/ forte in 21rd and worse the supervisor was present and had his own people he was doing back door deals with. I am sure people had enough with those in the force and tried to resist and using koboko wasn't enough to scare the angry crowd so they resorted to using gun.
