President Muhammadu Buhari last night appealed to Nigerians to bear with him over the difficulties in the land, saying Nigerians were seeing the darkest days before dawn.
While appealing to Nigerians who he said were known for their inner strength to soldier on, he said the change which they voted for was at the corner and about to rock every nook and cranny of the country.
In a strategic move to counter the difficult times, the President ordered the release of 10,000 tons of grains from the national strategic grains reserves.
The move, according to Presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu also debunked insinuations that the change mantra of the new administration was concomitant with hard times.
The Presidency said a total of N9 trillion was lost by the Federal Government to the Boko Haram insurgency, lamenting that the loss worsened the economy.
Noting the crippling fuel situation, the administration also observed that it inherited a N600 billion debt owed fuel importers and that it was working on ensuring that newly-licensed refineries commenced operations in 2018.
While noting that the Federal Government’s social programmes, including the payment of N5,000 monthly transfers to eligible Nigerians was set to commence, the Presidency called for more understanding from Nigerians on the challenges it said it inherited.
The Presidency further averred that the difficult times were caused by the economy downturn arising from “the Boko Haram insurgency, corruption and the lack of planning by the past administrations and one that should not be blamed on the Change Agenda of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.”
Shehu said: “The Presidency firmly rejects the insinuations that poverty and lack are products of the Change mantra. This should be dismissed as an erroneous and misplaced opposition criticism. The President understands the pain and the cries of the citizens of this country and he is spending sleepless nights over how he can make life better for everyone. Contrary to assertions by a faction of the opposition Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, the President’s energy and focus are on changing the lives of Nigerians, with a view to making it better than he met it.
“Change is a process. Change does not happen overnight. Change can be inconvenient. Change sometimes comes with pain. Over the past year, the government has been working night and day to deliver on its promise of change to Nigerians, and the painful process is still ongoing.
“This is work in progress. As life gradually returns to normal in much of the country and the northeast in particular, agriculture will resume and people from other countries will once again feel safe to do business with us.

DeletePresido... abeg we dey try bear but i'll like to point out that we r suffering... there r homes where both parents are civil servants, where both parents have not been paid 4 3-4 months. Their children Hv been chased out of private schools cos the public institutions in Nigeria are crap, feeding has become so difficult that the children who always understood that there were not from rich homes but they had a certain level of comfort can't comprehend why dey no longer see protein in their food, why the food is so little, why dey no longer go to school. How much more can wetake? Nigeria and President Buhari, Please which way?
DeleteWho lost the 9 trillion? By the way, who will benefit from the release of the grains?
DeleteLest I forget, did u people gave Jona d same chance you are pleading for right now?
In case PMB is unaware, would Shehu Garba and others around him pls inform him to address the present mayhem by Fulani herdsmen on unsuspecting farming villages? This matter needs to be addressed asap in an honest, equitable and just manner, in order, to preserve lives, property and unity btw Nijas. Naso me seeam.

This Mbaise chic I just love you. You sound free-spirited and easy-going. I bet you're fun to be with. But most of all, you make reasonable comments. You go girl!
DeleteHe is still blindsiding youths with the 5000nir promise, after saying that rather than pay it as his campaign promises stated, he has given how many billion sef for youth enterpreneur programme. Baba where are we going? We are here watching and waiting.

"Nigerians are seeing the darkest days before dawn"
ReplyDeleteHow and when exactly is the dawn coming? What plan is he putting in place to ensure that "dawn" comes. When you are borrowing to foot the budget bills. Salaries short paid and late. One year in office without an active budget. Do i mention fuel scarcity and power failure?
What happened to equating one dollar to #100 or so you?
Mr President, what exactly is your definition of "Dawn"?
The administration is all talk.
Yeah..all talk and blame
DeleteSince I was born, I've been hearing e go better but e Never better
DeleteHe should shove his plea down his throat
ReplyDeleteSo he knew he had nothing to offer to salvage the situation yet he was busy making promises up and down.
So sick and tired of this administration BS.
Nigerians have been bearing with you for over 11 months now...
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you because you don't hustle for fuel and light!....
I remember when Jonathan begged Nigerians to give him time to resolve the subsidy issue...you and your fellow APC members criticized him!...infact,Nigerians wanted to stone him to death!.,,
Buhari,Nigerians are suffering!...
They are tired of this gibberish you keep vomiting!...
They want action like you promised them!...they want "chains"!!!!...
Nonsense!...
U dey mind dem? After crucifying Jonathan, they are now begging for the same thing Goodluck begged for and fulfilled in less than 2 weeks. Yet about three months later, we are still battling with d worst case of fuel scarcity ever.
DeleteNot accepted. Dude has a loud mouth, I remembered how he lashed out the last administration with mouth now its his turn and he is pleading. What is he pleading for sef? Is it for traveling upandan? Or for electricity, fuel scarcity or his cluelessness shey you tink say na moi moi to rule naija.mtcheeeeeew getoutofherejor. #Threemoreyearstogo
ReplyDeleteBuhari should just STFU.

You are correct dear. He 'don't' know indeed.

ReplyDeleteWe dey here o! Sai baba all the way. My dear, what's worth doing is worth doing well. I refuse to be like the Isrealites who where being led out of Egypt and to the promised land but still wanted to return to slavery because there they were being "fed and taken care of". Tufiakwa! God forbid it. Budget, budget upandan. So Baba should quickly pass the budget and make billionaires out of some crooks and their croonies, eh kwa? Will that satisfy you lot? Buhari might not take us to the promised land, but he's leading us in the right path. And God willing whoever will emerge president in 2019 will continue with the progress made. Nigeria will be great again.

ReplyDeleteI so much believe that this time will pass. It's just so unfortunate that Buhari is coming in when there's meltdown in world economy, the president that reason with State and grant them bail bond twice with opportunity to help state like osun and others not to cry over their misadventure.
ReplyDeleteI hope state governors will support this change, because they are not helping too.

If by December nothing has been set on ground then I'll truly know this was another Clueless administration. Yes change doesn't come in a day. But we are suppose to see the effect of the change mantra or some positivity thay shows things will be better...
ReplyDeleteBy not complaining I don't mean I wouldn't be watching the government and give constructive criticism where necessary. 😒
Intelligent lady.

ReplyDeleteChange is a process when you have plan, let's have a plan so we can have hope
ReplyDeleteAll this fellow Nigerians who bask in delight of talking shits about GMB and the current administration never seize to amaze me with there low level of Reasoning and Understanding, because if they could all sit the fuck down to speculate about the present state of the country, they will know that the deep shit this country is in right now is as a result of the Mismanagement of the Economy account, Lack of planning, self centeredness, and high level of corruption by the previous administration brought us here. Yeah i know the economy is tough right now but all we can do is to be optimistic about the plans this administration is making and funny enough all this people saying shits dont listen to news and updates about the economy. God Bless Naija.
ReplyDeleteHe should have known what he was up against, having contested severally • Your party's lies and deceits don't get 2 me @ all. You can Kip fooling doz who are blindly suporting you but I pray God 4 grace esp 4 doz who were quick 2 realise your fallacies before d elections • Patience is reciprocal, U dnt have it and so I cant exercise it with you
ReplyDeleteI didn't vote for PMB and his 'change'.
ReplyDeleteHe won, I accepted it and thought it's only fair for a man to prove himself.
But so far, I've seen nothing. Still waiting to see him do his thing but the crippling state of the economy is unbelievable and alarming.
I wonder how the masses cope, especially folks who aren't rich. No power, fuel scarcity, foodstuff so expensive et al...Everything on the high side. I frankly don't blame people who wanna get out of the country. I mean, this is so bad and the worst Nigerians have ever seen.
Everything is been blamed on the past administration but truth is PMB and his team never had a plan on how to rule Nigeria. No preparation, nothing! They just wanted to get into power, and now we are in a bigger mess.
Admittedly, things are never the way we plan them or how we want them to be but how long are we gonna keep waiting for you and your team to get it right? Until people begin to die of starvation or what?
I do hope you deliver sir, period. Patience you are asking for yet you all bashed Jonathan during his regime.
Just do something already!
In other news, I saw on Facebook that the Minister of Education has removed CRK from the subjects to be studied in Nigeria. Hmm...
Na Sidon look I dey.
Well it has come to the point where we as a nation need to come in harmony and pray for the eradication of those who are making this country ungovernable. People need to start to die o. So we can reach this promise land. Pray and not complain, speak what you want to see not what seem to appear before you.
