It sounds incredible but it really happened. A family went to the home of their in-laws to accord their daughter a befitting burial only for them to lose two other members of their family in the most brutal manner.
The ugly incident allegedly took place at Umueze-Anam in Anambra state in January 23, 2016.
Spokesman for the bereaved family, Christopher David,40, who narrated how the incident happened alleged that youths in the area unleashed terror on them and ended up killing two of his brothers, Obinna David,24, and Chuks David,17, in cold blood during the burial of their only daughter, Gloria who was married to a man from the area.
Death of our daughter His story:
“Before her death, 31-year-old Gloria, was married to Fidelis Ofozor for eight years without a child. She was a full time housewife. On the 21st of December, 2015, our in-laws called us to say that Gloria was very sick and that she was admitted in a hospital in Port Harcourt where they still reside. Two days later, they called to inform us that she had passed on. It was really a sad news for all of us, especially our mother as she was the only daughter of the family and worst still, she didn’t have a child of her own before her premature death. But, we put everything in the hand of God who sees all things.
Burial plans
“Her husband’s family notified us after they fixed the date for her burial for January 23rd, 2016 in their home town, Umueze-Anam in Anambra state as custom demands because she was married traditionally. Without an inkling that our in-laws had other plans in stock for us, family members and friends from our home town in Ohuhun, Ubaha village in Umuahia, Abia state and Port Harcourt where some of my brothers are based, followed us to Umueze-Anam in Anambra state.”
Why we were attacked
Recounting all that happened on the day of the burial the elder brother of the deceased, Christian Okorie, who was physically present during the attack told Crime Guard: “During the course of the burial, our mother was in tears and while weeping, she lamented by saying;”My daughter, oh you died a premature death, whosoever that is involved in your death would not know peace.” The statement angered our in-laws and they became enraged and started shouting, asking why she uttered that statement. Immediately after the prayers, our daughter was taken to the burial ground where she was committed to mother earth while we returned to the burial venue. Suddenly, some youths in their village wearing black T shirts began to attack us with cutlasses, broken bottles and sticks. They used machetes to cut us, they broke my ankle with sticks. Everyone that accompanied us from the village to the town had to scamper for safety as we were all under attack.
Along with some family members, we ran towards the commercial motorcyclist park in the village so that we can escape, but the cyclists chased us back and dragged us to the burial site.
How our brothers disappeared
“When we got there, I found out that they had beaten my brothers and some of our relatives to a pulp. Some of them were already bleeding heavily. Later, four hefty men came and dragged Chuks and Obinna out. We kept pleading with one of our in-laws to intervene. He said we should not disturb him; that there was nothing he could do. Before I knew what was happening, another group of youths, five in number, started dragging me to the riverside. They said they would drown me. As they were dragging me, a woman who saw what was happening started shouting, and saying “he is a camera man, what has he done? You people should leave him.” As the woman was shouting, the people who were dragging me did not bulge. Neither did the elderly men who were seated at the burial site intervene. Instead, they kept shouting, take him to the riverside. As they were dragging me towards the riverside, that same woman kept shouting and crying, “you cannot kill this man.”
All of a sudden, two of them withdrew. The other three kept dragging me down. The woman was still busy following us. Later, the other two withdrew remaining one. That was when I heard a voice which said they should bring that man here. When they took me there, the man inside the compound said the blood gushing out from my body was too much; they should take me to the clinic that I was dying.
Rescue at last
“That was how he rescued me and I was rushed to the clinic. When I got there, I saw one of my brothers who was also rescued. It was then I also knew that the man that was shouting before was a policeman. He revealed that they came to rescue us in the morning but regretted that they were threatened not to come out no matter what happened, that they own the land. They had to seek more men from Otuocha because they were only two policemen. The reinforcement came to the hospital later in the evening. From there, they took us to a hospital in Awka. We were there in Otuocha hospital from Saturday till Monday morning in the evening when they came to attack us again in the hospital.
Police intervene
“At about 1am when policemen went back to the site to rescue my brother’s wife, both my uncle, my mother and some other people that came with us had sustained injuries. The Divisional Police Officer from Awka led some policemen to the burial site where they met with the Community Chairman, Youth Chairman, Council Chairman asking them to produce Chuks and Obinna who at that time were missing. The villagers told them that we killed their youths but when the police asked them to show their bodies, they said they deposited them in the mortuary. He asked them how can they take a corpse to the mortuary with out police report and autopsy. The DPO asked us to go get adequate medical attention and come back. It was later we realized that Obinna and Chuks had been murdered by the village youths led by the commercial motorcyclist chairman.
Extortion by the police
“Before they were murdered, 24-year-old Obinna David was a three hundred level Business Administration student of Abia State university while Chuks David, was a secondary school student. Up till date, the police haven’t done any arrest. At Awka, the policemen collected N60,000 from us. When nothing was forth coming, we wrote a petition to Zone 9 in Umuahia. They demanded money from us to start investigation. Later, they invited one of us, Fidelis Ofozor and his Uncle who were later detained and released.
Our plea
“We are calling on well- meaning Nigerians, Human Rights activists and the Inspector -General of Police, to intervene in the investigation and bring the culprits to book. Imagine how they killed two people in cold blood including our sister who died under mysterious circumstances because they think they have influence and money and connection in Abuja.”
Vanguard reportage!
This is shocking...how can?just like that?this is wickedness beyond belief!!!
That community should be investigated and the culprits fished out..THE LAW NOW WORKS IN NIGERIA.If you have any connection, please bring this story to the attention of whom it may concern ..PLEASE!!!

DeleteVery tragic!
May God comfort the family....i pray mama survives the shock!
Rip 2 the dead.
Totally shocked! And the Nigerian police is useless
DeleteThis is quite scary...the anambra tales are getting too much
DeleteSad! These people give igbos a bad name. I pray the culprits are brought to book. Trust the police to make some money out of it. smh
DeleteTrue story is that they tried to fight their inlaws for their sister's death and it turned bloody. There was already war in d marriage but their sister chose to die thr, cos of the history of the marriage they strongly believe thr sister's death was not ordinary so they decided to fight, now they ve lost more lives, when they could have advised thr sis to leave when she was still alive. May d dead rip.
DeleteWhat kind of bullshits lying story is this?
DeleteNor be fight una go fight!!! Sorry I don't believe
Igbo's are violent, take my word for it, i know its not a tribe thing, but tribalism apart, its in there blood, just try and serve in the eastern part of Nigeria, then you will understand, even igbo's hate igbo's, so am not suprise with hate comment from igbo's on this blog,i don't expect anything less from voilent people.
DeleteAnon 16:02 you opened your mouth and said igbos are violent even though you didn't spell it well?? Why not pack your things and come livebin the north then you will know what violent is..
DeleteAnd no I'm not ibo.im a northerners who isn't a Muslim but have since violence all the days of my live.
You opened your mouth to say you aren't been tribalistic when we know that's actually what you were trying to do. What happened to leaving comments without trying to. Bring in tribe.. Issh
Na wa. The story sounds somehow. So they just attacked you after your mum made that statement? I think you guys may have called for war and they reacted by giving you more than you bargained. It is so wrong but that is what I think happened. But to kill two more people??
DeleteI think he meant to say igbos are aggressive. The aggression helps them In business. That's why they push I most things in life. But as the saying goes: it is that thing that makes you a man that can kill you. So their aggressiveness also lands them in hot soup. Ever seen alaba or ladipo boys fighting? You go wonder!
DeleteReally tragic. Dunno y our law enforcement agencies are too money conscious.
ReplyDeleteJesus christ of nazereth
DeleteI would really love to hear the other sides story. Eitherway, they should pay for their crime. Murder iss a serious offence
ReplyDeleteHmmm.. very terrible!!!.
ReplyDeleteOkpara Anam, Umu Anam, umueri, agulueri, nteje etc...smh!!!!
Anambra State governor should seriously look into this mentioned community , he hails from that part of Anambra State..
Thank you, you sabi them wella. No regard for human life at all hence you are not from their community. Very violent people
DeleteThere are two sides to a coin, this story sounds too one-sided and smooth to believe, I wish someone from the Anambra family can also come out and talk. I'm sure the family of the late woman were pointing accusing fingers or even started the fight first.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless, Anambra people are very wicked. All the evil crimes committed by Igbos in this country and abroad are their handwork. I don't know why people still marry them, let them marry themselves.
What a stupid comment.
DeleteYou are very stupid for generalizing!!! Anuofia, stupid mofo like you
DeleteWhat about Mbaise and the rest? Ewu
Biko the love of my life is from Anambra. Pity we might never be together. They ain't all bad.
DeleteHmmmmm Anambra people so wicked, I can never advise my enemy to marry them, heartless and worthless people. They are demonic set of humanbeings.
ReplyDeleteYou are really loosing it, get a grip.
DeleteGo to hell!!! Who cares who you marry or if you'll even marry sef
DeleteThunder fire u stupid ass there
Why are you so bitter by the way am married already but my worst enemy will never be allowed to look Anambra side evil people, I can see the trait in you already. Thunder fire the whole of your generation.
DeleteThunder finish ur entire generation and the ones yet to come.. anumanu
DeleteZuzupuo here osiso
And to say I admire Anambra people from afar? May because I'm not igbo, but all my Anambra friends are generally cool and loveable. The only thing I have against them is they like to marry only themselves.
DeleteRIP to the dead...
They arnt ndi ofemanu ? Money maker what do you have to say about this?
ReplyDeleteSHantelle
Stop it. We saw yoruba sad news and killers few post down and I don't think there was tribal war. Stop dragging tribal war I to comments
DeleteMoney TAKER You mean.
DeleteYou see my dear, when it comes to violence in this country the igbos have always taken the lead. It's unfortunate the hausas allowed religion to push them into the recent violence. Igbos are violent, they see spec in other people's eyes, yet a whole iroko tree is in their eyes. They claim to love their land, yet 70% percent of their investments is outside their region. If an igbo cleaner greets her boss in igbo, the boss will reply in English. When they hear you speak your language or promote your culture, they look at you as local and inferior to them. They feel they own everywhere they go, who does that?. I like them though, but the above always turn me off about them.
Let me stop her before they start to wail...
This is what happens when one marries animals as husband. One shld be very diligent about the sort of family one marries into. I hope they didn't even murder their so called wife or give her poison, so the husband can bring in a new wife.
ReplyDeleteNawa o, and d so called husband was watching as ppl macheted his in laws like suya . Animal
Spiritual wickedness in high and low places, that community is cursed for life .
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons i don't attend burial ceremony,my aunt attended one in delta state and she returned without her Gele, handbag and one of her wrapper ( osondu things ).
Lol
DeleteBwahahahaha.
DeleteShennel why make me laugh like this naawwwww???
Lwkmd
DeleteThis is absolute barbaric!!!!! No feeling for human life again.... what a shame!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm yet healed understand their reason for such.
ReplyDeleteThere is more to this story that they're not telling.
It couldn't have been the mother's utterance that brought about this, because obviously, the youths were already mobilised, dressed and ready to kill.
Na wah!
#WhiteDiamondOut
So sad
ReplyDeleteHian oriegwu
ReplyDeleteCases like this makes me not to blame parents that don't want their children to marry from another community
What the mother of the deceased said wasn't too much, if truly their hands are clean, they shouldn't be bothered. They now had to kill two innocent souls, ha, wickedness! I wonder why some people are so engulfed in evil. Haaaa! This shouldn't be swept under the carpet. Law must prevailed and culprits to be brought to book as soon as possible, justice should not be delayed here at all to serve as warning to others
ReplyDeleteThere's more to that simple statement...
DeleteNothing can justify these deaths... May their souls rest in peace!
ReplyDeleteHmm Anambra Again...
ReplyDelete5 Bedroom Commandment. Keep it, Keep Her.
I so hate Anambra people ehhh... I can never marry from there, I rather be a gwegwelina... very wicked Arrogant set of people. They should marry themselves biko. That's how they scatter any event they go for that is outside Anambra.
ReplyDeleteBwahahaha you're already a gwegwelina sef? Fuck off joor
DeleteDem done use u finish.. gwegwelina bitch
DeleteVery wicked and barbaric people. The law must surely catch up with them.
ReplyDeleteIGP please do something. These guys can't go unpunished.
ReplyDeleteVery tragic story. But I think there' so much more to this whole gist that we are yet to hear. They couldn't have just mobilised youths (cos of mama' statement). I suspect there must have been a brewing war somewhere and the villagers were just waiting for the deceased to be lowered to the ground before unleashing the terror upon them.
ReplyDeleteWhat remains to be told is what must have brought about this kind of brutality. Either way though, nobody has the right to take a life he didn't create. I pray the murderes are brought to book soonest.
Anambra people, illiterates. Their wickedness no be here. Marry them to your own peril.
ReplyDeleteWho will even marry an Osu like you? Anumpama
DeleteYou call your fellow tribesman an outcast. I shake my head. Igbo people
DeleteStop with all the osu talk please. Stop calling people osu. Osu has been abolished since for a long time
DeleteYou n people make other tribes mock igbos. It's very sad and disheartening how you can't comport your self outside..
Yorubas have places where they can't marry from in their tribes because of long lasting fued or something but you can't hear them talk about it in open. I know so cause my yoruba friend who happens k be my best friend had to leave her boyfriend who was from a different part of yoruba land because her people can't marry from there.. But you don't what them cursing themselves with it.
@Anon 16:38 pls keep quiet!!! What is it with you and the Yorubas sef? Must you always compare yourselves with them? Is there some sort of competition or is it inferiority complex that is your problem? Is it not better not to marry somebody because of a lasting feud, than because you feel you have two big heads and the other person just one? Or you feel slaves are to be condemned for life and will not enter the same heaven you will enter. Or because you feel the other person is less of a human? Igbos discrimination is out of this world!!! They even discriminate against themselves, Tueeeh!!! I can't deal abeg!!!
DeleteI - I
G - Go
B - Before
O - Others....
**long hisssss***
Very sad
ReplyDeleteMy God
ReplyDeleteIf the said community can actually act like this, then they are capable of anything.
ReplyDeleteWhat the woman said is not out of place, why should they be bothered if their hands are clean?
I have never seen any woman die from being single but I v seen many women die in marriage. I pray I don't marry my enemy.
ReplyDeleteD family don't have money. It will be hard for them to get justice. Umuahia people don't allow this to go under.
ReplyDeleteJustice must take place. D idiots must suffer what you guys are suffering.
Na wa for marriages o
Don't be surprised that the "youths" being referred to here are these touts that loiter villages waiting for ballot boxes to hijack. When election period ends, they jump from one burial to the other.
ReplyDeleteAny little provocation will just send a message to their "Igbo" addled brain and the next minute they start slaying people.
It is quite unfortunate.
Anambra people are arrogant and very wicked in nature, 2 ladies from my place were married by Anambra men died miserously in same way am sure is for money Ritual.
ReplyDeleteMiserously...bwaaaaaahaahaa
Delete#dead
Lmfao miserously...oyibo bu agbala
DeleteMiserously lmfao...oyibo bu agbala

DeleteWhere is queen and boss? I need her to come and do the tribe thing on this post.
ReplyDeleteThey will meet der match
ReplyDeleteOsu abolished? It is still very much in practice o. I
ReplyDeleteAnambra people fear them o... They claim to know it all always ready to show off but truth is they don't know shit. I m so pissed... Mtchew
ReplyDeleteUgly bitch... who will marry u? Deal with it
DeleteAnd this people want Biafra, won't they kill themselves finish, that one now said he's no longer a Biafra man but a British citizen mschew
ReplyDeleteThis story is one sided. Umuahia people must have startd the whole fight. i have been to a burial in mbano where the woman that died is from umuahia. i still remember how they started a fight and chased people away because they wanted to take their sister's corps away. if not for the intervention of the mbano youths that over powered them. they even came with weapons all the way from umuahia to mbano to fight. Anyway let justice be done
ReplyDeleteAll this pple ranting here will not pass Mbaise pple... Mba ojoo
ReplyDeleteSenseless human beings. Was it Anambra people who killed the aluu four? Was it Anambra people who carried the chibok girls? Was it Anambra people who killed farmers in Benue and Jos?This generation just does not have the capacity to think.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 02:08 I'm loving u comment already.stereotypes is all I see here.tell me a tribe or pls e on Nigeria where there has never been an iota of violence....as far as humans are involved, there must be hatred and violence..there attitude towards their atmosphere is what matters
ReplyDeletewowwww people can lie. i just saw this post. whoever sent this mail is a bloody liar, bastard liar. Why lie to get pitied. Umuahia people came to fight, they brought weapons like cutlass, bottles different things to fight Anam people. How can you come to another town to fight and go free, dat is not possible. Umuahia started the fight by killing and cutting people randomly then the youths got upset and retaliated. They demanded for the lady's corpse but Anam people refused that was what started the fight, Umuahia people killed Anam people 2 and injured a lot of people. Why is this man now sounding like a saint and that they did nothing. Anam people are not fools to just start a fight just like that. Mr man stop lying and tell the truth you people came to fight and you also killed and there is evidence that you did that is why justice is stalling. Who goes to another town to start a fight and run? hell no you have to wait and see the end of it. After insulting and accusing the husband that he used the girl for rituals you still went ahead to start a fight by killing innocent people. The two Umuahia boys that died stapped a lady to death too. Stella always get the other side of a story before you judge.
ReplyDeleteStupid story. full of lies. I wonder when Igbos will unite and stop all this i cant marry Imo or Abia or Anambra or Delta. Stupid set of people with stupid ideas. Get a life Mr and stop lying to seek favor or pity. Bunch of nuisance
ReplyDelete
