Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi on Friday installed Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan, after delivering his welcome address at the occasion held at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
The event, which was attended by a thousands of indigenes saw five state governors in the South West; Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State in attendance.
Ajimobi said, High Chief Adetunji having satisfied the conditions of the law according to the laws of the state and “is hereby presented with the certificate and staff of office.”
Governor Ajimobi presented the new Olubadan his staff of office at exactly 1:30 p.m. and his pronouncement drew laud applause from the mammoth crowd.
Radiating in royal splendor, wearing a white-beaded crown, Ibadan people hailed Oba Adetunji, the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Before his coronation, Oba Adetunji, arrived the home of Ibadan kingmaker popularly known as ‘Afobaje,’ the Afobaje Labosinde Compound at Oja’ba, Ib around 9:50 a.m. Oba Adetunji, who clad in brown aso-oke (Yoruba traditional wear), was driven to the venue in deep wine Peugot 307 CC 180 car, with registration number Lagos KJA 701 DZ.
He returned from the palace of Afobaje around 10:20 a.m. into the waiting hands of visitors which included the chairman of the event, Chief Adebayo Akande, from where he proceeded to Ose-Meji shrine, to conclude the traditional rites, after which he was given the staff of office.
The kingmaker, Oluwo Labosinde of Ibadanland, Chief Wahab Idowu popoola Mosadogun, in an interview with Nigerian Tribune, said his father installed the new Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, as Mogaji in 1976.
He added that the rite at the family compound, to the Ifa Ose-Meji temple at Oja’ba, barely opposite the entrance of Labosinde Compound, signalled the conclusion of rites to install a new Olubadan.

After concluding the traditional rites, the Olubadan was installed as the 41st Olubadan in front of the entry of the compound. Chief Popoola, speaking before the coronation, said incidentally my father installed the new Olubadan as the Mogaji in 1976, and today, as fate would have it, I will be installing him as the 41st Olubadan.”
During the rite, after offering prayers for Ibadanland, Oba Ogungunniso I opened the traditional calabash containing money to the admiration of the people. he High Chiefs of the Olubadan were led to the venue of the traditional rites by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Senator Lekan Balogun.
