Ocholi’s Driver Dies As Family Suspects Foul Play

The driver of one of Mr. James Ocholi, SAN, the Minister of State, Labour who drove the car that was involved in the fatal accident that led to his death and that of his wife and son has also given up the ghost yesterday. Sources said the driver who was rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja and has been in Intensive Care died yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Ocholi family are suspecting foul play in his death, they have a called on the Federal Government to investigate the driver, the security personnel that were on the trip with the late Minister and those who posted them to his office. The family made the call when the Minister of Labour, Chief Chris Ngige paid a condolence visit to the family residence.

According to Ocholi’s uncle, Abdallah Aliu “Distinguished Senator Ngige, I know you very well. When James Ocholi was told to work with you, I knew he was in good hands because the last time I saw you was in Anambra State. We ate with you in your house as a governor.

“This man that just died is not a lone person. We leave this responsibility in your care. Whoever recruited the driver and posted (redeploy) him should be investigated. It can happen to anybody, it can happen to any minister. It can happen because it has happened. “So, we want to know who recruited the driver, and at what speed (he was during the trip) to the extent that the corpse of the deceased cannot even be recognised. Can you imagine that? I am worried, it is worrisome.”

Aliu added, “There was a kind of foul play in the whole exercise, which is very worrisome. Apparently, the driver who drove the car was the same person who took the photo of the dead man and sent it all over the Internet – whatsApp and others. So, the question is: how come that the driver of the vehicle in the same car was able to take the picture of the dead man?
“The side of the door, where the Honourable Minister sat, was not properly locked because after the car somersaulted, the thing flung him and so he had a terrible and fatal damage that his body was beyond recognition. There was a foul play in Ocholi’s death.

“While I was in his house, I already knew because those who conspired and plotted it (the death) became jittery because I have never been to that house and they don’t know me. But somehow, they became jittery, scared and worried.

“This thing they did is political, it is a political war and some people want to score some political points against the system somehow. The death of Ocholi is quite suspicious.

Ngige responded thus: “The acting Permanent Secretary is here, she is the one in charge of human resources. We will find out and investigate it. We will do, but I can tell you that our personal drivers are known to us and we both keep our personal drivers. We will find out and investigate this.

    1. Everybody knows how these govt drivers speed and drive recklessly, sometimes I wonder the need for all that. Why can't they drive at a good day speed. I hope other drivers learn from this. It's not about supremacy and bullying on ther road users, they should remeber that speed kills. RIP to the dead

    2. If the door wasn't properly locked, it would have indicated.
I understand the pains they are all going through. They should take time to grieve for now instead of suspecting everyone.
The driver is not alive to speak for himself.
RIP once again to all the departed souls.

Afterall, the driver is now dead.

    4. Before we play the blame game here! If you are chauffeur driven, there is no way you will know at what speed your driver is moving it because you are far from the speedometer.
The other indication is if the windows are down, the pressure from the breeze will actually be a factor but knowing fully well that his glass must have been up.
Another indicator which might not be as sensitive as above is looking outside the vehicle and seeing how fast you cross other cars, which will also depend on the speed of the cars you are passing . Politicians will hardly sit in the car doing nothing, they are usually either making calls or going thru one document or the other and may even fall asleep.
I was in a benz one day and never knew how much speed I was on until I wound down a lil bit and the wind gave me a seious slap, I quickly asked the driver to slow down. I never knew we were on that kind of speed. It is the responsibility of these drivers to check the speedometer while on the road especially good/smooth roads.
Most people who are used to entering danfo or people who drive without AC always think that the appropriate way to know you are speeding is by feeling it. The speedometer is there for a reason and sometimes even 40km/hr is considered high speed on some roads and that is why in civilised countries, they give indications on the maximum speed on a particular highway.
It is very stupid of someone who is a member of the convoy to take pictures first to send to whatsapp while people's lives are hanging, that time might have saved the wife or the driver.
Let them prosecute the security people with them, one of them took that drivers phone to deliver the DONE DEAL message!
The Mechanic that serviced the car for the trip should be questioned too. A good Automobile company should be consulted to take that car and analyse it, if truely there was any alteration on the car they will find out. A lot of the indicator lights will be on which the driver would have seen except they told him that JAZZ will save him.
It is possible there was foul play, it has happened may times in America and other parts of the world. The tires can be manipulated etc... let an automobile company pick up the car and then eye witnesses should be questioned.
Didn't seem there was any other car involved which I find suspicious knowing how close these convoy ply the roads. The minister woundnt have been the first and last car so why is that car singled out?

    7. At least it's been established that the drive is not a "suicide killer driver". From what I read now, if he didn't die he would have been in trouble. Well, the only thing that makes sense is if they are claiming that he was killed, but why? It then means that he must know something or was a part of something. Else,.killing the driver would be meaningless. I hope it's not the case. They should just allow the family rest in peace if nothing tangible is discovered jare. Not everything is politically motivated.

  8. RIP to the dead. I don't think the driver took the picture it's just not possible ; and I'm wondering why the minister didn't caution him when he was over speeding.

  9. If his door was open then it means something wentt amiss before his death. They were travelling so it's not possible that the door wouldn't have been closed properly because travelling a very short distance your car will alert you that a door isn't properly closed.
    So, 2 things:
1 - the driver lost control and the minister opened the door to try and jump out.
    Or
2- the driver was indeed sent to assassinate him and was deliberately trying to crash the carr and the minister wanted to jump out hence the open door. The driver did what he was sent to do, snapped the pictures, sent to the sendee and then waited for ambulance. Unknown to the driver, people that send you on that kind of errand won't spare your life either, they would have arranged for his own death. So he was killed at the hospital yesterday. The car was damaged quite alright but that kind of damage there should be atleast one survivor because of the airbags.

So maybe there was indeed foul play.
May their souls rest in peace

    4. What a lame assertion you've put up there.

First, let me ans you on the issue of the door being opened and the Minister being thrown out of the vehicle.  Every human being is responsible for his life, so the Minister should have known better to do so.
2ndly, do you know what an impact is? A car that most probably was travelling on a speed of not less than 100mph and then all of a sudden, looses a tire and tumbles, one can only imagine the kind of impact it would have had which apparently saw the deployment of the air bags. My dear, such impact is enough to throw one out of a moving vehicle, which I believe is the case here.

On the death of the driver,  i think it's mean and unfair to the poor man and his family for any one to infer that he was killed. This is just plain assumption with no plausible/ tangible fact to serve as back up.

Lastly dear, please stop with the conspiracy theory as it's just as lame as it comes.

      Delete
    5. What a silly scenario you have painted. Apparently you watch too many thriller movies. If you want to assassinate someone, crashing a vehicle at top speed with you, the assassin inside is an idiotic plan. Can the fatalities in the crash be predicted? And how are you sure it will not be a suicide mission for the assassin? There are certainly neater and more fool proof ways to carry out an assassination.

  15. Goosebumps.

I dont know the late Minister.but he seemed like a good man.and everyone says so.here and LIB.
His son seemed a decent young man.with a good head on his shoulders.he talked about God a lot....and Death too.about enemies Trying to bring (him) down.

    Who were dose people?
I am not sure I liked how Dr Ngige answered "dat all our drivers are known to us" in face of the heavy allegations against the driver.dat seemed like a Defence.I could be wrong though.
And data brings me to another part of the issue,Dear Uncle @ this point everyone is a suspect.forget those who u ate or swam in their houses.
It may be nothing.almost all deaths are from d village or from enemies.but I am puzzled at three things:

    1,The doors weren't locked.at least the Minister's side.
2,The Said driver was new.and he allegedly uploaded the Minister's mangled body on d Net.
3,And den he later died. Was he killed too? Was he snuffed out to prevent the World knowing d Truth and those behind the Deadly Crime?

I pray the Truth comes to light.
And I pray God comforts the late Minister's Children.and provide for them. Heal dem.Comfort them.
    Amen.

    1. Please you people should stop with this "door left unlocked" theory. The impact of the sumersault is enough to project his body out of the car. These things happen in a flash too.
Except one has never witnessed an accident, you'd not understand how forceful an impact could be. My 2 cents

As for the uploaded pictures, I wonder how they came to the conclusion that it was the driver that did same. Even in one of the fotos online, a woman was clearly seen taking a shot at the accident site. For all we know, the crash must have alerted passers by and one of them could have taken the pics and uploaded. I could be wrong though.

  16. According to another account by SR,the security details in the car behind, radioed the driver that his rear tire was down. "And he panicked and applied brake ". Only to be hit from behind by the same people that radioed him.
The security men at the centre of all this should be probed. The truth must come out.

    2. So it's safe to say that the man and his family were killed by the security men
      Those security men are assassin's

      Delete
    3. But how is it possible for the security detail to notice the rear tyre was down and the driver didn't know?
Moreover, there would be a flashing light on the dashboard.
What's confusing is the driver being alleged that he took pics of the accident and then ended up in intensive care.

Only God knows the truth about what happened.

      Delete
    4. Hmmm
Makes more sense than every other theory cos the pics i saw definately looked like the ministers car was run into by another car b4 it lost control totally

    5. GBG it is very possible. Not all cars are electronically alert. Well, I see what u mean. A minister's car should be detailed with gadgets. But the driver may not be attentive to details. So yeah, someone can notice it if one of ur rear tyres are down. Esp SUVs

But all conspiracy theories must be applied here.
They should not rule it out as just an accident. Investigations must be carried out, whether government is urged or not.

Major causes of the alleged tyre blow out:

    Pot holes
    Expired tyre.

So that car must be taken into custody and torn apart..

Was the Driver coherent enough to take pictures? Why should taking pictures be his priority in his state of confusion?

Why will a "driver" assassinate a family this way when he might not even escape unhurt.

    Finally.... Motive!

  25. My question is this, with the way his body was mangled, Did he use his seat belt?????

All these, car wasn't lock story, it was a new model car. It his door wasn't locked properly, the would have been a beeping sound.

My question is did he use his sear belt. Cos all the airbags in that vehicle were deployed. He probably was flung out of the window before the car somersaulted off the road.

  26. It's very easy to cry foul play especially in sorrowful moments like these. The lives of those lost can't be brought back. Hence, accepting fate would be the best. The various speculations can't be proven as the driver of the supposed vehicle is dead already. So how do they intend to carry out an investigation of suspected assassination?. Opening an investigation that wouldn't see the light of day and tagged inconclusive at the end is useless and won't help the grieving process the children are going through now.

  29. May the Good Lord comfort the families of the deceased. The family will continue to analyse many theory in the course of finding answers to many question on their mind. However we must avoid jumping into wrong conclusion. There is a saying that "no be person wey motor jam go copy downt the vehicle plate number". I blv it'll be difficult for d driver to engaged in all that was stated above taking into consideration the level of wreckage of the car involved. But its possible that his phone may be used to do the job by anoda person. Ngige knows what he's saying cos most of these politicians hand picked their drivers and some other aides that have been tested and trusted over time, based on long years of commitment by these people. Its also possible for the minister to open the car while trying to find means of escape cos most times their cars are opened and closed for them by aides following them up and down and I dnt wnt to blv that the car will not alert the driver & other occupant if the doors are not properly closed. If truly its a pre-meditated accidents as the uncle stated, then the driver himself was a victim cos human/animal lives are all sacred irrespective of position or class. RIP to all the dead.
