Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has asked Governor Nyesom Wike to be holistic in his comments about developmental projects in Rivers State.
Amaechi who was reacting to Wike’s statement on the Rivers monorail project, where he (Governor Wike) said he will not touch the project based on the advise of the people of Rivers State, explained that Governor Wike does not understand that the monorail project belonged to the Rivers people and not him, Amaechi.
Amaechi said same Rivers people had consistently praised the project and had seen it as a way to jump-start the local economy and place the state at the forefront of transport infrastructural development in Africa.
He also said most of the projects being referred to as abandoned projects by Governor Wike were ninety-percent completed.
Amaechi, however, cautioned Governor Nyesom Wike to stop lying to the people of Rivers State.
He said, “Governor Wike said that he will not touch Amaechi’s monorail and that the entire state has told him not to continue with the project. Can someone please tell Wike that the monorail belongs to Rivers State and it’s not Amaechi’s private monorail.
“Governor Wike, which Rivers people told you not to touch the monorail project? Is it the same Rivers people that have consistently praised the project and see it as a catalyst to jump-start the local economy and place the state at the forefront of transport infrastructural development in Africa? Or is Wike aggregating the jaundiced views of the coterie of court-jesters that hang around him daily, as the opinion of the entire people of the State?
“It is sad, very sad that Wike has elected to play politics with this laudable project that was almost completed before Amaechi left office”, he added.
Amaechi, who preceded Wike as governor of the state then described Wike as a “shameless liar” for either underplaying projects embarked upon by his administration or cornering them as his achievement.
“Governor Wike also described several ongoing projects in the State when Amaechi left office as ‘abandoned projects’, which he claimed to have completed or about to complete.
“He specifically mentioned the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity road that connects the Island of Opobo to Andoni and the rest of the State. What a shameless lie! This project was ongoing and was almost completed as at May 29, 2015. May we also remind Wike that the Eagle Island- Diobu road that he once claimed to have been abandoned was 90 percent completed with just the final course of coal tar remaining as at when he succeeded Amaechi.
“It’s repudiating that Wike would even attempt to rubbish and destroy the laudable projects and achievements Amaechi made in the health and educational sectors as governor.
“Shamefully, what has happened in the past months since Wike became governor is that Wike has neglected the model schools and health facilities built by Amaechi and have allowed them to rot away, taken over by weeds and grasses, in tandem with his policy of not wanting to touch Amaechi’s projects or build on Amaechi’s enduring legacies.
“Governor Wike, these projects belong to Rivers State and its people, not Amaechi,” he reiterated.

These two should note that this is not about personal ego that is waging war between them. They should keep their differences in the gutter for now and focus on how to better the state. Currently visiting the state and I have been wondering what is or rather where is the GARDEN in the state. That state is just overrated. You two better work together Rivers isn't your private property.

DeleteI was in PH in January & saw that joke of a monorail that made him demolish buildings on station road at the time he started. The project just guzzled money. Its one epic fail! If there's one thing Rivers people hate, its that project. No one has anything nice to say about it. They keep saying he used that project as cover to steal the state's fund. How can he spend billions on that short distance rubbish? He spent years on a project & ended up abandoning it. The rail has been overtaken by grass. These people should stop lying about things that are so glaring.

When wike entered office,he just poured coal tar on it and fixed strt light that has never ever worked and vaunted it as his project during his 100 days in office!! To say I was shocked is an understatement..amaechi might have his own flaws but he did well meaningful projects in Rivers state!!seems we all have forgotten what Ada George to NTA road used to look like!D eagle island road from Agip junction years ago was a total mess! Even with ur money no cab will agree to go der!!we suffered but Amaechi fixed that road! When he destroyed d waterfront,he was totally right cos dat place harbored all d criminals in Africa..he had plans for dem but mama piss won't let the guy breath! DeleteIt's not hidden that the monorail Is a completely useless white elephant project. I am not a fan of neither amaechi nor wike however I will call a spade a spade. As far as I'm concerned that monorail was built to syphon money. It's so useless. The distance is rubbish with regards to what it can do for transportation. They have even carried the fake carriage that they put there when amaechi was pretending that there was work in progress. Abeg let that rubbish that billions were supposedly spent on be demolished make we hear word because as long as it is there it will continually serve as one of the biggest scams of amaechis entire tenure

ReplyDeleteAll Amaechi has said is true. Wike has not started any new projects. Whatever he has commissioned were projects that Amaechi started and most of them were 90% complete. Example the UST Law Library that Wike completed after he came into office. He claimed to have started the project when we all saw the building being built during Amaechi's administration. This Wike and Amaechi bruhaha just shows the problem with Nigerian politics. Why will a governor refuse to complete projects started by his predecessor? The projects are for the good of the people not for one particular person. As for Rivers people, I believe we are the most gullible, tribalistic people in the country. So because Amaechi is now an APC member, we want to discredit him and say he did nothing for the state? These were the same people that loved and praised him while he was still in PDP. I think the people are the problem not the politicians. Rivers people have forgotten Odili's reign of terror because he is now walking freely with Wike. I pray God opens our eyes before it's too late.

DeleteYou are still the same person who will clamour for continuity in government, I watched the channels interview and Wike was proud to say he completed projects Amaechi started rather than abandon and start his own. If you are well meaning you would appreciate that. Amechi did well when Rivers state was his focus, do you know project 45billion would have given the state, rather than that white elephant project with pink ears. I'm very sure you know monorail was a waste of tax payers money and to think the model he was given us was ancient(if you ve been to Paris u would know, if not watch Julie and Julia there is a glimpse of it)
