England are set to be foiled in an attempt to secure Arsenal starlet, Alex Iwobi’s international future.
Despite having played for England at junior level, the youngster has pledged his international future to Nigeria, his country of birth.
Iwobi, who is Nigeria legend Jay-Jay Okocha’s nephew, has burst onto the scene in recent weeks, scoring his first goal for Arsenal in the 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has alerted FA chiefs of Iwobi’s talents and discreet overtures have been made to gauge whether the forward would commit his future to England.
However, Iwobi has joined up with the senior Nigeria squad ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt this week.
And Nigeria manager, Samson Siasia intends to field Iwobi in the encounter in a move that would cement the youngster’s allegiance to the African nation.
Iwobi has played in two friendlies for Nigeria but could still theoretically revert back to playing for England.
If the 19-year-old plays against Egypt, a competitive fixture, he would no longer be eligible to play for the Three Lions, according to FIFA rules.

God bless his hustle.

Biko it okay, okocha's cousin is getting 2much, we've heard...let d guy shine with his own glory.....
Obviously it's easier for him to play with Nigeria than to make it to the main English team. It's not like he's doing us a favour pls. He's just helping his career. Better play for one country which will gladly take you than spend forever trying to play for the senior team of another w
ReplyDeleteMore goals as you serve your fatherland .
ReplyDeleteI just thank God for him and I pray he will play against Egypt on Friday with his condition about what he ate.

DeleteIwobi but why na.???? u for stay England n fight for first team shirt.See Vic moses wey come .E career don off light.
ReplyDeleteHe took the right decision, he may not get to play consistently with the three lions.
DeleteGabriel Agbonlahor refused to play for us. England still didn't even give him a call. At Iwobi's position on the English team, they have a lot of options. If he plays averagely well, Nigeria will always invite him, Nigeria invited Yakubu who no sabi play again as of 2010, Nigeria will invite anyone eligible.
ReplyDeleteThis is the "wrongest"move you've ever made in your life, am sure you've not heard of Samuel Okwaraji pls goggle it and you will know that Nigeria is for everybody and not for anyone. You would have just remain there jejeli shikena.
