The Court of Appeal in Lagos today dismissed an appeal by Nollywood actress Ibinabo Fiberesima challenging a jail term slammed on her by a Lagos High Court. Ibinabo was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos High Court for reckless driving which resulted in the death of a hospital staff.
She was alleged to have driven her car recklessly on the Lekki-Epe Expressway and knocked down a man, Giwa Suraj. The deceased was said to be a staff of a Lagos state’s hospital. A Magistrate court (court of first instance) had earlier given the appellant an option of N100,000 fine for the offence.
The judgment of the magistrate was, however, set aside by the high court which replaced the option of fine with a jail term. Dissatisfied, Fiberesima had filed an appeal through her lawyer, Mr Nnaemeka Amaechina, urging the court to set aside the five-year sentence. Delivering judgment on Friday, the appellate court dismissed Fiberisima’s appeal and affirmed the decision of the Lagos High Court.
In a unanimous decision delivered by Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur, the court held that the trial Magistrate Court lacked the discretion to have granted Ibinabo an option of fine having been convicted. The court further held that the appeal lacked merit and consequently dismissed it. Other members of the panel are Justice U.I. Ndukwe-Anyanwu (presiding) and Justice Tijani Abubakar.
It will be recalled that the appellate court had earlier ordered the appellant to appear before it when judgement was to be delivered. Counsel to the appellant, Amaechina, said the judgment will be challenged at the Supreme Court, adding that a notice of appeal had already been filed. Justice Oluwayemi of the trial court had held that the magistrate exercised “judicial recklessness” when he gave the convict an option of fine.
The court noted that the trial Magistrate must have misdirected himself based on the allocutus made by the counsel to the convict that she is a working mother. Oluwayemi had held that Sections 28 of the Traffic Law under which the accused was convicted did not give an option of fine. She held that “when a term of imprisonment is mandatory for an offence the court cannot and should not give an option of fine.” She insisted that the fine did not serve the purpose of justice in the case and subsequently ordered that the N100, 000 be returned to the appellant.
Vanguard reportage.
I called my friend Ibinabo but she was not available to speak with me because they have sent her to Kirikiri already.I am really really heart broken right now.
Hmmm.... I just dey observe!
ReplyDeleteOmg!!!
DeleteNawaoooo.... Another Prison!!! She should ask her self questions. May God help her
DeleteIt's a sad situation but she had it coming. Justice can be delayed but never denied. She did the crime, so she has to do the time. My heart goes out to Mr giwa's family. At least, they will be able to find closure now. Be that as it may. I'm sad ibinabo has to go through this. She strikes me as a lovely and calm lady. Really sad.
DeleteMay God strengthen her.
Wow too Bad, this could have been Avoided if she used the services of an On-demand Driver hire service company in Lagos call #GoCiti to drive her home in the comfort and familiarity of her own car when she was drunk. I hope she gets out of this.
DeleteAnon 23:15 you be ode o I swear. Where was it stated in the article that she was drunk ? If you wanna advertise your biz, do it in a reasonable and sensible way and post not on a daft annoying way
DeleteNa really your friend oo. Funny you. She might come out after a few months, na naija we dey
Delete100k for someone's life. What an insult to the dead. She must do every second of her time. She killed someone and has been out there partying with no remorse. I only wished they gave her longer sentence. RIP to the dead.
DeleteWhat a sad story...
DeleteShe would have just settled the family of the deceased financially when it happened, maybe the case wouldn't have ended like this. BTW she broke Fred and Agatha Amata's marriage.
DeleteYes that anonymous was right. She was so drunk that night, she was driving Daniel Wilson's car when that accident happened. That night, her recklessness cost someone his life, a woman, her husband, some kids who are now adults, their father and Lagos State, a brilliant medical doctor and a citizen...... However you see it, all the victims deserve closure. Sorry Ibinabo, you had this coming.
DeleteGoodman you mirrored my thoughts. She should have laid low after the accident. She should do the time. I hope they allow conjugal visits.
DeleteSome spiritual forces are bent on finishing this lady
DeleteI emphatise with the family of the dead doctor cos they need closure too but no amount of punishment given this lady is enough to pacify the wounded heart of the family member ..... His life can't b replaced no matter the punishment .
But I will beg the family to forgive and let go totally
Ibinabo is a nice lady whom I ve met twice .... She is just unlucky with life and events.... Too many enemies around her.
I will appeal to the doctor s family to pls take heart and forgive this woman .... Leave judgement to GOD plsssssss. Forgive her in the name of GOD
A life is taken - yes , it's sad.
I think her being all over the place recently made it seem like she was without remorse. Seeing her in the media doing her thing everyday will keep reminding the family of the deceased that she's the reason he's gone. So their anger is inevitable. But I think that they can still appeal to them somehow. Then again there may be more to this.
Delete4 real?
ReplyDeleteWowwwwwwwwwww,Kirikiri Bawo?
Ths made me so so sad but then thinking of the family the deceased left behind and all...DUI is a serious offense,no one is above d law. Justice must prevail (even after 11 yrs only in Naija).
DeleteNawa ooo..it is well
ReplyDeleteI was never a fan of her but dis mde me sad. Well dis should show as an example to dem celebs
ReplyDeleteMay God see her through this. I feel sorry for her and even more sorry for the family of the deceased. This is a great lesson for us when you drink pls don't drink cos costly mistake can occur.
ReplyDeleteDon't drive when you drink.
DeleteThe lesson is don't drink before driving or drinking while driving. Get someone not drinking to do the driving. I feel bad for her though. She looks like a nice somebody. Stells, you should not have given the details of her been in kirikiri. Just my thought.
DeleteChai
ReplyDeleteJust one reckless mistake
I'm happy the doctor's widow atleast she got justice
DeleteHow does it feel to see your spouse's murder gallivanting about while the family wallow in pain
She still got drunk at the last award after party dancing a mad woman
This is nothing but a miscarriage of justice.
ReplyDeleteI believe that she was sent to jail bcos she is not yoruba. But the dead man is their yoruba brother.
U senseless af
DeleteShut up. If it was your father she killed would you same this.
DeleteMay GOd let u meet same fate as Dr Giwa, so that your brother from ur tribe who must have killed u while carelessly drunk would be set free. U think its everyone that's inconsequential like u? If u die 10 times in ur family even the mama wey born u no go notice. Oloriburuku. U 'll go through the same pains the Giwas are going through by Almighty God's grace.
DeleteSo when she killed someone with a car,she should just pay just 100k to d family and not undergo any form of punishment Bcos she is not Yoruba? Is dat u wat u trynna say? Is d 100k money for d cow to kill for d burial? Can u pple just comment without being tribalistic? Stop am abeg
DeleteU r a Bloody Bastard.May ur brother be killed or ur loved one......den let d perpetrators go free.anu mpama.FOOL.
DeleteJames
DeleteSHUT UP!
Now this is d height, it makes no sense to u that a family lost its breadwinner and d children of the deceased may face hardships because of the woman's reclkess driving, did yoruba people drive her car for her? Or did they set her up? So she shouldnt face d consequences of her actions because d deceased is yorba? Lest we offend d igbos and non yorubas? How inhumane can u be? Ur hate for the yoruba tribe will be your downfall in jesus name. May u experience worse sorrows than what dis woman put d family of the deceased thru in the hands of your fellow igbos so that u will understand that humans commit crimes and not tribes. U claim that yprubas are everything bad, but u r an example that no tribe has monopoly of evil. God put u among the igbos to show that foolishness abounds around the world not juat wit the people u hate, u r a cursed man for thinking such when a person's life is at stake. Big disgrace to humanity! Stella, pls post it. Tnx.
DeleteU are a serious nama!
DeleteCareless talk,so the appeal was adjudicated upon by a Yoruba?
DeleteGosh
DeleteWhen will you stop displaying your folly,
If the doctor is your father or brother will you be so stupid to type this
You should be ignored. But its difficult. Are you human?
DeleteWhat about justice for the deceased, the widow, kids, hus parents and loved ones.
Justice will elude you for making this comment unless you repent of this wicked heart.
Why una dey reason like say na sawdust dey una brain sef?
DeleteIf that man was your family manber nko?
Stell's forget she was your friend for a minute make you reason this thing well. 100k????? Come on now! That's an insult and a slap on the face of the mans loved ones.
Maybe she should have spent more time being sober and sucking up to the mans family instead of gallivanting around like it's nothing. Just maybe, the family would have reconsidered and withdrawn the case.
You are a tribalistic bigot.
DeleteThe things I read online ehn... you are the definition of the word stupid.
DeleteJames aka money maker is retard. He is suffering from brain damage so people should please pardon the gibberish he typed up there.
DeleteStella please do not always enable this guys comments. Some of them are not necessary in some situations. How can he say this at such a time under such sad news?
DeleteUre lost! So lost.
DeleteHaba! Dem no dey follow una play? Clearly money maker is just an asshole and makes comments like this.
DeletePls stop being tribalistic. The man that was killed is first a human being with family. As much as I feel for Ibinabo, justice has to prevail. Let's stop asking our govt to do right n yet when it seems close to home, we scream tribalism.
DeleteJames AkA Money Maker shut the hell up!!! Tribalist piece of crap. Mtschewww
DeleteMr james wat is miscarriage of justice in dis case. Did she commit d offence of not. She committed an offence, first as a woman and not as an igbo woman"drunk driving" and thru d act killed a man not only a man, a father, husband, son, brother uncle friend to someone, who is still grieving, oh yes d dead cannot come back.and no amount of jail term can bring him back. But d offender needs to serve her punishment and av a sober reflection on wat she did.
DeleteSomeone said her children will suffer, but they av forgotten dat dr giwa's kid av been suffering too since dat night 10yrs ago.
Mr james I believe u went to school, but frm ur comment d school did not go thru u.
Do unto others wat u want to be done to u.
What's all these attack for?...
DeleteMost of you masturbating under money makers comment goes anonymous to say worse things...
All of you should smell out biko!...
Madam hulk hogan queen and boss my feet, it's U dat shd smell out frm here. Pray dat u shd be experience wat d Dr family went thru. Do unto others wat u want to be done to u.and leave sentiment aside
DeleteSome people are so stupid and irresponsible with their response sha. Are we forgetting that she did kill someone. Someone's life was lost. She should be grateful she only got 5 years for vehicular manslaughter. She will come out eventually to her family and kids. What has the family got. She still has life. He was a productive citizen of the country. The family should rightly take her to civil court after her sentence because she does need to now financially compensate them. Next time don't drink and drive. How irresponsible. Naijas need to embrace the law, it should work for everyone equally irrespective of your status in the society.
DeleteJeez
ReplyDeleteKirikiri my goodness!!!!
ReplyDeleteOf all places, I feel for her Mehn
DeleteOmg!
ReplyDeleteWas she drunk while driving or her village witches had finally caught her?
Will the 100k raise the dead?
I really felt bad for her
What if the deceased family withdraw the case, will she still go to jail? Maybe her family member should go plead on her behalf(omg what do I know) . She going to jail cant even raise the dead.
This is really devil at work.
May God save her and may the soul of the deceased continue to rest in peace. Amen
Yaah she was drunk and she got no driving license den too. I feel bad for her but she most do d time.
DeleteExactly!
Delete100k cannot raise the dead and sending her to jail can't too
But even if they want to fine her,100k is too small abeg
Manslaughter is not just a case against the victim's family but against the State. So the family of the deceased cannot withdraw the case. Na Lagos state she follow get kpata. I really feel for her, this can happen to anybody drunk or not. I pray the Supreme court let her go even if she has to pay 5m naira fine. This case has been on for over ten years Abeg!
DeleteThis case has been on for God knows how long.....
DeleteOne would have expected ibinabo to have used her "Jonathan connection" back then to settle this case.
Hmm
What do I even know self?
5 years in nigerian prison?
That na DIE!
Is this talk because she is a celeb or what? Thank God people like you aren't judges o. Which one is will the jail term raise the dead? Much as I feel really bad for her, I saw this post and I was like 'oh boy!!!', but then again, it is the law. Manslaughter which is involuntarily murder has its charges too. If you do the crime, you must do the time also. That's how it work!!!!
DeleteNawa sha.... Too bad!
And she was just living it up days ago!
A crime is committed against a state not an individual, except the complainant frustrates the prosecution of such crime.
DeleteA crime is committed against a state not an individual, except the complainant frustrates the prosecution of such crime.

ReplyDeleteKARMA don't have conscience! Enjoy ur stay!
ReplyDeleteKarma?!? Did she kill him knowingly? For saying this you will experience her pain in double without respite...
DeleteChei
ReplyDeleteOmg😩😩
ReplyDeleteCan you see where Greed has led you too? You were given an option of Fine to pay just 100k then you go die of guilty conscience.. Yet you refuse that cheap offer and wanted to even pay nothing and get your freedom.. Come to think of it.. If the appeal had been won. How will you sleep at night?
ReplyDelete5years too small.. you should have been hanged allong with Rev King..
You are a bastard.. I pray one of your child is Knocked down by an agbero who has taking sk and codeine.. so the court can give him an option of fine to pay 20k or 5yrs..
You aint even a Learner.. you were under the influence of Strong Drink.. Yet you went to court of Appeal cuz you didt want to pay 100k... Ogbeni Jonathan is not the President again ooooo.....
I pray they rape you in Kirikiri.
Sexy with no brains...
She should have been hanged
DeleteYou pray they rape her in prison
You're a demon and you deserve nothing good in life for all what you just said
Gosh! You're heartless sha
Your brain is non existent! You just spewed serious trash up there. What the f..k do you mean by she was given option of a 100k fine but refused to pay? Can you read at all? I'm seriously amazed at how stupid you are! As in you are a serious dunce, did you attend primary school at all? You can't even understand a simple write up yet you insult ibinabo so much. I'm astounded at how empty your brain is and yet so poisonous. May God have mercy on you!
DeleteLet me help you break it down ibinabo was given an option to pay a fine of 100k by a magistrate and she paid that fine but the judgement was cancelled by the high court because the magistrate court first of all does not have the jurisdiction (authority) to handle a manslaughter case and secondly giving an option of a fine was improper because the traffic law did not give an option of a fine for such an offence. Subsequently, the high court sentenced her to 5 years in prison for her offence. Then the appeal court upheld the decision of the high court ( the 5year prison sentence) and ordered that the 100k be returned to Ibinabo.
If you still can't understand this then you are probably hopeless.
Idiot! It wwas the Lagos State Govt i.e the prosecution that appealed the judgement of the magistrate court and not the defendant.
DeleteFool! You can't. Even comprehend something as simple as this. Clearly, thee judgement was. In her favour.
Why wish death on her kids? smh
DeleteUna be big mumu. The guy knw what he was saying than u idiots
Delete@ peanut are u a lawyer
DeleteAs simple as ABC u gave the info
Nice dear
Am suspecting this angelblaze... are you Emeka Ike??
DeleteWhy would you be so bitter? What has her kids got to do with this? She did not appeal the 100k, she paid it already which is why it is states there that the family should return the fine to her. Please read and comprehend properly before you write .
DeleteShe has to serve her term. Other countries give more than 5 yrs and still put the offendant on probation. Good job Nigeria. Change is really coming to the Country💃🏼💃🏼🙌
ReplyDeleteThis is really sad . what about her kids?
ReplyDeleteSage
They are alive. They will survive.
DeleteI hope her husband will not remarry before she returns
DeleteLol!! Sisi Eko u re not serious.
DeleteNo u r joking Stella
ReplyDeleteEyah!
ReplyDeleteOh poor Ibinabo. I'm sure she didn't see this coming. It is well.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see this coming myself
DeleteIt's sad
Let's wait on the supreme courts judgement
Sad as it is, I pray the supreme court upholds the judgement. It will serve as a major lesson to everyone.
DeleteJames why are you tribalistic? If the doctor she killed was your brother how will you feel paying a fine of 100k. I am sure the judgement was delayed because she was close to people in power in the last dispensation. Nigerians please let us always put sentiment apart in situations like these n put ourselves in the shoes of the family that lost their loved ones.
ReplyDeleteJames is a mad man so stop referring to him. He is beyond idiotic and foolhardy
DeleteKai! God pls help her. Chai, Na WA oh
ReplyDeleteOh God... She looks like a nice lady. Please let her lawyer up well and head to Supreme Court. May God have mercy on her and may he comfort the family who lost a loved one.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lost case since the law did not give an option of a fine
DeleteLet her just jejely go and do her time.
If she had gone then, she would have been out now.
I feel no pity for her because she was not remorseful.
Your Friend is full of bride like I Heard and that was what sent her to jail. She was proving jonathan is my brother buhuhuhuaa next time be loyal to people u cut der bread winner off .
ReplyDeleteThey just want to punish this woman, I feel sorry for the dead man but can't the family forgive this woman? Nah wao. This Yoruba people too wicked.
ReplyDeleteIf we catch u penren!
DeleteOlodo! Even if the family forgive, it's a case against the State not the family.
DeleteAnon 22:07. It seems your jealousy for the celebs is killing you. What has an accident got to do with a celeb? It can happen to anyone, including you.
ReplyDeleteI pray the supreme courts forgives her. The family of the dead, please forgive her and do something.
She looks like someone with a very good heart. I am really sad.
Too many people are jealous of Ibinabo, she needs to get close to God & live a private life...
DeleteOn a 2nd thought, this woman should have left the shores of this continent years ago!
ReplyDeleteMtcheeeeeeeeeew
This is just sad
When there was AGN money to chop? No she can't!!
DeleteOjukokoro will not allow her.
DeleteShe was not remorseful at all.
Kept partying upandan and getting drunk.
I pity her children. Not her.
She must have been restricted from travelling outside Nigeria because of the ongoing appeal.
DeleteOh! This is so bad!
ReplyDeleteNa she dem go use take pose say no one is above the law.
What about them big men politicians who are thieves, ke lon shiele for thier side.
I feel so sad.
Very good. This is good news. Justice! Finally!
ReplyDeleteShe was living like there's no tomorrow, knowing well that every time she's in the news the only thing the deceased family will feel is grief. After a crime of this magnitude, you would expect a reasonable person to lay low and seek forgiveness from the family of the deceased. No! You killed a man, you decided to flaunt yourself again.
Go and enjoy kirikiri.
Thank you Lord for this sensible comment.
DeleteThank u oo nigerians are too sentimental what's with eyaaaa upandan? She killed someone and was unremoserful about it.IB abeg enjoy ur kirikiri
DeleteExactly. Doing fashion parade on red carpet upandan. Had an elaborate wedding and was gallivanting aso rock while battling the AGN thing. She just had a lot going that put her in the news. That wasn't wise at all. She'll go on vacation and plaster it online. Let's be sensitive
DeleteI feel really sad about this but DUI and manslaughter in the process is really painful. I feel really bad for her but the law has to take it's course. This is delayed justice because she should have finished her time by now and moved on with her life, but they kept stretching d thing. Now she has to leave her kids and new husband to do time. I just hope he sticks by her at this time. I hope.
ReplyDeleteTrust yorubas, they don't forgive. Very wicked people. Their drunken danfo drivers have killed a lot of people but never went to jail.
ReplyDeleteSmh for u!
DeleteWhen a drunk kills your child or brother let them pay you 5k to buy panadol and valium, so you can relax and forgive the offender. Tribalistic bastard. Motor kill all your generation.
DeleteSad
ReplyDeleteThis just broke me!! Sad!!!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are fucked up in the head tho. Feeling sorry for the accused rather than the victim. 100,000 will not even get you a cow talk more of a living bread winner. Money can't bring him back, but this woman had this coming. She was nasty to the family when Jonadaft was president. It's time to face the music.
DeleteAnon 23:40 how do you know she was nasty to the family? Please tell???
DeleteAnon 23:40 how do you know she was nasty to the family? Please tell???
DeleteIndeed the 100k is an insult to the deceased n his family but then i really feel sorry for her coz it wasn't intentional though reckless, certainly not intentional..oh well a lesson for all i guess
ReplyDeleteit is a pity ,i really feel for her and her family......pray God should give her a strong heart to pull through this. ibinabo go on fasting oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ReplyDeleteOh no!this is sad,but justice has to be served.
ReplyDeleteRule of law101-Nobody is above d law,let others know now.
This is good judgement, in as much as I sympathise with her,the family of the Dr she murdered too suffered great lost due to her drunkenness.
ReplyDeleteMr James this is not about being Igbo but murder of a life.
ReplyDeleteThe law must take its cause....this woman caused the death of another not only by driving dangerously and recklessly on a public road, but causing the death of another whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol..I hope the prison sentence will be increased to 7yrs from 5yrs by the supreme court and at the same time disqualify from driving for 10yrs
Not possbile madam..this is a case between her and the government.so rule that idea out.
ReplyDeleteBut this james dey always make me laf,u b fool sef,wat is brotherhood or ethnicity has to do wit jail term or jurisdiction?don't u ave any cognitive domain
Mc pinky
James aka money maker, your stupidity knows no bounds.
ReplyDeleteInfact your brain cells are non existent.
I know your Yoruba father dumped ur mother and didn't accept the pregnancy, dats why you spew thrash.
I am sorry, I really am not sorry for Ibinabo, when people committ crimes, whether by mistake or not, bcos I know ibinabo didn't do this purposely. But when you drink and drive recklessly, you need to be punished accordingly. The man that died is not a goat, he had a family, had kids. Those kids will be fatherless because smone decided to not do the right thing.
That guy being a medical doc may be the person responsible for his family, his aged parents.
Let's leave sentiment aside Stella. In Germany or any developed country, she will be charged for manslaughter and will spend maybe just few yrs if the judge is lenient.
I hope they atleast give her a comfortable cell. I hope she wld be kept for atleast 1yr instead of the 5yrs.
She needs to pay for taking a humane life. Let others learn from this, if you are maybe too tired or even too drunk, don't drive. I don't know if drunkness is part of her crime, but she was irresponsible and she cut off someone's life and future.
Stella make I no search for my comment with microscope. Bcos dat is what you do when smone criticises ur views.
I hv also started observing dis with Stella too...
DeleteUna never cheeee chomting wiv dis horrible tribalistic bastard called stella
DeleteOh my gosh!
ReplyDeleteI'm gobsmacked, really.
* sigh *
#WhiteDiamondOut
Be speaking grammar u were not gobsmacked when she commited murder abi?mtcheww
DeleteThis is sad.
ReplyDeleteWhen you do the crime, you do the time.
ReplyDeleteShe killed someone and has to face the consequences. Foreign atlethes and celebs get locked up for murder. Ibinabo's case ain't different.
Ha!This is bad news.Lord, pls have mercy on her and her kids.
ReplyDeleteAnon 22:54, May all you typed turn back to you and your family. May your sins never be forgotten after many years. May all the rewards for all your sins be visited on you. Will the jail term bring the man back?
ReplyDeleteMy sister was disfigured in an accident caused by a drunk driver. She is still not married today. We did not report the driver to the police, not to talk of prosecuting him. Forgiveness can heal a lot of wound. A lot is on the pipeline for her. That forgiveness has brought a lot of goodness to her. One day,I will bring her story here.
Wow! God bless your family!!! Your sister will marry a man who will adore and pamper her!!!
DeleteSo you think you have one noble by not report the idiot driver uhn, I bet my now the driver would have murdered another person with his recklessness. The essence of punishment is to Serve as deterrent to others that may want to toll same part!
DeleteYour sister is alive, their son, husband, father isn't alive.
DeletePlease you all should drip sentiments because it was a celebrity involved
This is the law. This is how it works.
Exactly Jennah! You have done the world a disservice by not reporting him for driving drunk. Who knows if he has gone on to not only disfigure, but kill other people as he got away with it? Drunk driving is a serious crime and the consequences are dire. That someone bears the repercussion of his actions doesn't mean you didn't forgive him. They aren't mutually exclusive.
DeleteThot she has served her jail term already? Eyah
ReplyDeletePoor woman, I hope is not the horrible dress she wore at the AMVCA that annoyed the judge? Sorry for her sha.
ReplyDeleteLwkmd.
DeleteAnd she had to free like a peacock....peacock is proud. The judge must have read so much meaning and decided to humble her. Now she will be dressed like a dove.
DeleteJames is damn retarded!
ReplyDeleteIts such a sad situation for her. I really really pity her and i pray the family of Doctor Giwa be consoled. Its not easy for them I know
ReplyDeleteAll this sentimental rantings is for nothing. The #1 victim of the accident is DEAD. Whether 5yrs or 50 yrs will not bring him back to life. It's okay for Ibinabo to serve jail term for manslaughter. It will give her closure of this whole saga & somewhat settle her conscience too. It might not have been easy with her and her own conscience. That is regardless of the legal drama and hurdles she's been trying to overcome. That one sef even small pass how her mind go dey worry am.
ReplyDeleteI pray the deceased family too will have some peace, that justice prevailed.
Anyway or anyhow you look at it, tragedy, waste of life, mishap, unfortunate, sadness is all you see. The man's kids are fatherless, Ibinabo's kids too will be motherless temporarily, so make she just serve the time, so this too will rest.
Nevertheless some of us are strong putting up façade of "all is well". I guess most of you wanted her to be crying on Social media about this tragedy. She knew she was jail bound, she came out of the AMCVA putting up that façade. How una want make she do?
She did not break Fred Amata's marriage. They started dating after separation. If I may ask, is Fred's wife celibate?
ReplyDeleteWhen a woman moves on after separation or divorce, we congratulate her, but if a man does the same thing, any woman in his life becomes a husband snatcher.
Ibinabo, You did not intentionally kill him. It was a bad decision you made. stay there in peace. God may want to use you in that prison. Use the opportunity to God's glory.
Yoruba people, I don't know why you people are stone hearted and unforgiving. She made a mistake. It wasn't her wish. Whom among you unforgiving souls never made a mistake before?
ReplyDeleteU are all running your mouth here bcos she is not one of you. I know you people in and out.
Will you people and the LSG purse this case with so much vindictive ness if she is your fellow Omo O'dua?
Please Ibinabo is not an igbo, at least u people will not say I am supporting my sister. I am just saying the truth.
Just like I said in the post yesterday. about Mile 12 hausa traders moving to Ogun state. Let's end this ethnically motivated animosity among us. It does more harm than good to this country.
I hope you'll still be of the same opinion if what happened to Dr Giwa's family happen to your family! Anofia
DeleteOponu money maker....very stupid somebody
DeleteMoney maker I am definitely sure ur father is a Yoruba man that denied u.....pls calm down u hear.......
DeleteI really really blame her for all this . Knowing fully well the magnitude of her offence , she should have laid low..always in the limelight, vying for elective office, going on PDP campaigns, having a celebrity wedding, girl, what were you thinking about? Where you in self denial or what? You never considered the doctor's family.. So you had it coming. I just feel for your little girl but what about the doctor's kids? In 5 yrs you're out but doctor has gone to be seen no more.. Just do that time.
ReplyDeleteE.O.D!
DeleteNa really E.O.D !
DeleteHow do you all rejoicing over this helpless woman's misfortune even sleep at night? She is a mother of 5 kids. I don't wish even my worst enemy to be separated from his/her little kids. Some people just have no conscience. I bet you people don't have caring mothers dat's why it means nothing to u people.
ReplyDeleteI find it totally abhorrent that you people are demanding that she be crucified simply bcos she is not your language person. It is obvious that you people would be asking for her freedom if she is one of you.
I pray the Supreme Court find her not guilty and set her free. Bcos it was an accident. It wasn't premeditated . she is not a serial killer. And she is a first time offender.
I also pray that God will strengthen and provide for the family of the dead.
Mr james pls say amen.
DeleteMay wat happen to Dr Giwa, happen to u and ur household.
Enyin omo ogun sdk,e gbe ohun soke ,ki e se AMIN fun ogbeni Mr James" "soldiers of sdk pls raise ur voice and shout AMEN on behalf of Mr james.
And what has been happening to the kids of the Dr? Go and borrow sense. She committed a crime against the state. I.e Nigeria. So Nigeria is prosecuting her not yoruba people. Did you see the name of the presiding judge there, Anyawu. Go fuck your brains cos it's worthless
DeleteYou're a fucking idiot! She KILLED somebody's husband, son, father, brother and friend! Was she remorseful?? NO!
DeleteSet her free in your dreams? She's just away for 5yrs (which is actually 2& half years in prison calendar) from her children but Dr Giwa can't & wont be able to see his lovered ones again so stfu
DeleteIt was a hit and run case. She could have restituted after hitting the man but nooooo... She decided to run. She could have probably saved the guy if she had rushed him to the hospital sef. Humans are just wicked. Now do you think she doesn't deserve what she is getting? Or is it the man she killed that isn't separated from his family. Let's even leave all that cus she has a case with the government not the man's family or yoruba people. It is the government that is suing her. Di hou now get it?
DeleteThis stupid fool, All ur brothers that have killed generations from fake drugs nko? I just pity the likes of you. When you can't separate issues to see clearly. May God help you. It's a shame
ReplyDeleteShe should have ran away...the people that kill on a daily basis we never sort am out..if she ran away at the scene will this happen ..non considerate Nigerians ..when u do the right thing troube...if u don't trouble too...make them rest it won't bring Back the man..
ReplyDeleteShe went into a coma as reported then. She suffered injuries from the accident as well.
DeleteDrunkard fit run? She was DRUNK!
DeleteLies she wasn't in a coma.
DeleteShe wasn't in coma pls.
DeleteSo she had a date with the judge on this case yet she was everywhere you go like who cares. She should do the time already. Just imagine the insolence, 100k fine for what? Well ibinabo, nothing lasts forever, not even the president. God punish devil. Continue to rest in sweet perfect peace Dr. Giwa.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, too bad, I pity her, but d law must prevail
ReplyDeleteI found it depressing reading comments on this blog . Law is non repeat of color or tribe . @james and other tribalism nonentity try and commit a crime and see if you will not pay for it . For those paying family off before it get to court , it is evidence of poverty
ReplyDeleteNo wonder most of you see nothing wrong in politician stealing your children future. Nigeria is a laughing matter in international community due to our attitude to embezzlement we made it feel it is normal and that is why some of our citizen are been prosecutes through hanging or huge prison setences abrading . To those playing down justice system , I wonder what you will be teaching your children in future , otherwise they will end up like Ibinabo. Listen to me folks, Ibinabo is an uncultured kids with no iota of conscious.Go and ask people that schooled with her at University of ibadan. 5his situation may help her to learn real Life. Life is a learning curves. For those pitying her , she is only going for 5 years and not forever , and now think our Dr Who left for life ? Imagine children been fatherless , imagine how their life will be affected, imagine how just one parent will be responsible for the 3 kids financially, morally, physically. .I guess one of the commentators said that one should think of her kids, what about the dead "s children? Pls enough of sentiments and tribalism . Do not cover crime, otherwise it will continue happening. The commentator that claimed that claimed that her sister was affected by accident and driver was not reported Do you know how many people the driver must have killed after your sister"s accident? Nigeria justice system is going into good direction. LET ALL EMBRACE IT.
See why it's good to hit and run!...
ReplyDeleteChai Ibinabo, next time you hit somebody with your car, just flee!!...
But truth be told, the Giwa's family are very wicked!...
A friend of mine that had the same problem with IB paid the family of the deceased off!..
Will sending her to jail bring back their father?...
This is pure wickedness!...
Linda eze please comment on only nollywood. Stay off blogs and go and get an education. Illiterate. Justice has been served.
DeleteWell said @queen and boss, I support settling with family of the dead. But I am totally against hit and run. That's lawlessness
DeleteLike in said reason comment on this blog is depressing . S@queen may what happens to Dr Giwaa happens to you entire family , then we will be able to judge you. So shall bit be. Look at the deluded element on this blog . Also taking about hit and run , and you are expected to sleep at night . Honestly I fear your tribe which ever side you are from
DeleteJesus H Christ!!! This is a crime against the STATE! Nigeria sent her to jail and not the family. The law is the law, dammit! If the family had begged on her behalf, the law will still run its course! Are you guys learned at all? How can people be displaying stupidity like a trophy! Eish!
DeleteHmm,this life!IB sorry,Mrs Suraj Giwa sorry.nothing dey this world abeg let's live in peace.God will see u both through.
ReplyDeleteJames, are you kidding or have you really lulled yourself into believing what you're saying? It has to be the latter because what you're saying is that drinking, and even worse, DUI is not by choice. How many "Do not drink and drive" warnings are issued out, even by the makers of these alcoholic drinks? Plus, true remorse which I have yet to glimpse in Ibinabo's demeanour, is the ONLY ground for forgiveness and in this case, revoking the jail-term.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for those of you mocking IB,this can happen to anybody...
ReplyDeleteHer picture in prison uniform will break the internet. Stella that should be your focus now not this pity-party
ReplyDeleteGod punish you! Demon, you will suffer a worse fate than this. BTW, she'll not go to jail...
DeleteGod punish you! Demon, you will suffer a worse fate than this. BTW, she'll not go to jail...
DeleteQueen of whatever you are an animal. Pay off the family Abi, if someone kills your own family member while drunk you can choose to collect money since you are a hungry mofo. That poverty has been allowing people get away with stuff does not make it the norm. This is not GEJ's government when anything goes. Now you commit a crime you do the time. Yes it will not bring back the deceased but that's not the point the point is to make people think twice before they get in a car and drive when drunk destroying the lives of innocent people. When people go to jail for rape or murder it does not reverse the crime but act as a deterrent for others . By the way a criminal case is against tech state and not this family and this is lagos state not all your jungle states where anything goes.
ReplyDeleteJames you are simply sick, many Yoruba People are in jail for killing other Yoruba people. Don't make everything about tribe even when it has nothing to do with tribe. By the way the Judge was not even Yoruba so shut up. For those saying she should have run away she was seen by witnesses. Even if You away you will surely pay in one way or another. You cannot kill someone through carelessness and except To go Scot free
Her enemies and spiritual forces poured the alcohol down her throat till she got drunk and drove the car for her till she killed an innocent man, just like in Nollywood movies.
ReplyDeleteStella, it's a shame you are talking like this. You are "really really sorry for her". Sometimes it's best to say nothing than type. Because she is your friend, fa? In Germany where you live, would someone who committed this kind of crime go Scot free. It's a big disappointment that you use your blog not to stand for justice as you try to claim. Big shame.
ReplyDeleteAs for those melodramatic human beings that have turned this to a tribal issue, wait till it happens to you then you will know how far.
Linda Eze -- you are a classic example of why EDUCATION is important. It is not too late to attend Adult school.
God who doesn't slumber or sleep will judge you all on this blog. Make una continue.
It's so sad, but i am happy justice will be served even if it's small time she serves, i don't wish this fate on anyone but the family would breath knowing that dey fought a good fight. So sorry Ebi, time would pass fast that's if you really do go to jail
