Gov Wike Channels TV Interview Extract

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike defended his statement that those coming to the state for the rerun election should “write their will.”

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television monitored in Port Harcourt,
he told his interviewers that he made the statement which some of his critics believe is an evidence of his support for violence, that he said in reference to those who might have sinister intention.
Fielding questions on a wide range of issues, he said it
will be difficult for another party to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The governor noted that the state was in the firm grip of the PDP, besides his administration’s modest achievements in its short period in office.
Wike spoke yesterday as a guest on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, broadcast live from the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The governor said Rivers residents were determined to vote for the PDP because of his achievements in the last few months in office.
He noted that despite the poor federal allocation to the state, his administration was able to complete projects.Wike said no distractions could make him abandon his campaign promises to the people.

The governor said the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) had increased from N4 billion to between N9 and N10 billion.
According to him, if there was a high rate of insecurity in the state, as reported in some sections of the media, the IGR would not have increased because investors would have run away.
Wike said: “It is difficult for anybody to defeat us in Rivers State because of the projects I have done in my short stay in office, and the fact that Rivers is a PDP state.

“The civil servants are happy with us. Nobody would be happy when, at the end of the month, they cannot take their wages home.
“We have done much to fulfil our campaign promises. If you go to Borokiri, where the former governor was living at Okaki Street, everybody was afraid to go there because of bad roads. But today, we have fixed the road and the people are happy.
“In Diobu axis, we had many bad roads before now. But today, we have fixed them. The general hospitals were dead; some health centres were not functioning. What we are trying to do, as a matter of policy, is to pick one hospital in each of the three senatorial districts and equip it.
“We are also going to train and retrain our doctors. For now, we are focusing on health and education. We don’t want to carry all at the same time.
“We received N4 billion as (federal) allocation when our salary wage is N5.5 billion. How do we make up to pay salaries? When we took over, I had an IGR of N4 billion to N5 billion, but as I speak to you, we have improved our IGR to between N9 and N10 billion.
“This means nobody is running away from the state, because if people were leaving the state, our IGR would not have increased. And if the insecurity is much as is being claimed, why is our IGR increasing? Yet, if you read the newspapers, people would say the state is Rivers of blood.”
The governor, who pledged not to complete the monorail project started by his predecessor, said Rivers residents and other stakeholders told him to forget about the project and focus on another, which would have direct meaning on the people.
He said the monorail project consumed over N45 billion, adding that he did not want to have a headache over a ‘white elephant’ project.
Wike accused his former boss and Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, of allegedly attempting to destabilise the state because of his “desperation” to capture the state.

The governor said it was clear the All Progressives Congress (APC) could not defeat the PDP in the state.
He noted that if President Muhammadu Buhari supported him, he would achieve peace and stability in the state.

But Wike regretted that the frequent change of his security chiefs would jeopardise his plan to tackle the security challenges in the state.
He said: “The continued removal of the commissioners of police, director of State Security Service and other security chiefs in the state is to frustrate our effort. Of course, the minister is behind this, and people are saying we should reconcile. In what way?
“That means if I reconcile with him, they would not be removing my security chiefs. That was why I said we are personalising this, it shouldn’t be. If there is need that we should come together to talk, we should not be desperate to take over the state. As far as I am concerned, I don’t want to assert that kind of responsibility.
“But the issue of security is not political. We are fighting to stop this situation and there is a system trying to destabilise the state by removing the commissioners of police all the time. This is a man who has served as governor for eight years and Speaker for eight years. What has the state not done for him?
“As far as I am concerned, the Federal Government should support me by leaving the security chiefs to plan for the security problem in the state. The only problem we have with the election is for the umpire to say we must be fair to all. Security people should not be used to manipulate the process.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should stop employing those who, one way or the other, have interest in a political party. That is the way we can maintain peace…”

    1. Hold up!!! Wike just told 2 big lies. The states federal allocation isn't poor, he shouldn't tell that lie & then the IGR for the state has always been between 8-10billion naira. From 2011/12 that's when the IGR increased. Towards the end of Ameachi's tenure he was running that state mostly on IGR, not allocation because Asorock chose to toy with the states allocation. I want Wike to prove naysayers wrong & leave people with their mouths open by the time his tenure comes to an end, but he should do it positively without the unnecessary little lies. He's already taken a step in the right direction by trying to complete certain roads the last administration started, but were unable to finish due to allocation issues, don't sully it with stupid utterances.
On the Inec & Security part he's right but sometimes what I find really ridiculous is that, it's okay for Wike & the PDP to do something bad to other people but wail excessively if there's even a rumour in the air about something like that befalling them.....
FYI: Wike you are what you perceive others to be.

  2. Bayelsa, Rivers, akwa ibom, calabar, delta, Enugu are very strong pdp states if anyone tries to make it an apc state it will only bring killings and problems, I have known this for a long time .Imo would have been a pdp state, but Ohakim stupidly made the state to be what it is today and made that mallam, aboki Rochas to make it an Apc state, it will only take the grace of God for that state to go back to pdp,Rochas rigged the election and won ,Imo people hate him so much now

  9. Rivers isn't peaceful. State of emergency loading to bring desired peace to the populace.
All lives are important and sacred, even lives of agbero.
When a gov comes on air to say no big politician was killed and as such no political killing. Can you imagine that?

  11. We will not forget that he said IGR has gone up by N5 bilion in less than 12 months. I say this because our politicians always assume we suffer from amnesia when they start saying something else in the future.

  12. Wike just a simple question. Who sent police commissioner Mbu Joseph Mbu to Rivers state to harass Amaechi the then sitting governor? Was it not you as Minister and Mama piss. A police commissioner that allowed Wike to have campaign rallies but will block then governor Amaechi's rallies. A police commissioner that blocked a sitting governor Amaechi to use the rear gate of his own government house. Who sent the brigade commander at Bori camp that followed a sitting governor to his village to harass him? Was it not Wike and Mama piss?

People are saying Amaechi should face his duties in Abuja. This is only Amaechi's fourth visit to Rivers state since he left office in May 2015. His first was a personal visit, second was for Dakuku's thanksgiving, third was official and the fourth for the rerun election. When Wike was minister of state for education, he spent 90% of his weekends in Rivers not to talk of other working days he was always around engineering confussion in the state. It got to an extent that a former NTA DG, Tonnie Iredia, wrote in one article that the minister of state for education is always in the news but on non education matters. It is Wike's shadow that is chasing him. He knows fully well what he and mama piss used federal might to do to Amaechi.

Amaechi may not be a saint but he is better than Wike. Wike's methods are crude. He talks and behaves like a thug. Imagine he broke into people's houses with cranes to lift cars. What happened to writing those people to return cars if you believe they wrongfully took them away.

What roads is Wike talking about that would be more than the double lanes commissioned by Amaechi in as much time as governor. Talk about the old aba road from artillery to rumuoamsi, rumubiakani to trans amadi slaughter, rumuomasi to elekahia nwaja bridge and so on. Most of the roads Wike hurriedly flagged as campaign items when he thought the court will remove him, he has abandonded most of them.

People are dying everyday in Rivers and you guys are here defending Wike. Last Thursday I drove into a scene where someone was just killed near first rivers hospital in Rumuomasi. It will get to a point where people will desert rivers and everything will crumble. A governor that is always saying kill kill kill in public. Tueh. I don't want my day to be spoilt by this useless Wike matter.

  13. Well from what I know, Wike was awarded contracts to fix certain roads before he became a governor and he didn't execute them. He's now using state funds to execute them. Sorry uncle wike, but you're a thief.

  14. And why did Wike bring the Channels TV crew all the way down to PH govt house? So he could compromise them?

  15. The only beef people have with Amaechi is that he supported Buhari against "our son" Jonathan. What will you do if you were in Amaechi's shoes? First Lady publicly snatching microphone from a sitting governor making a public speech, PDP exco & machinery taken forcefully from you and handed over to Wike, Later expelled from PDP, Commissioner of police Mbu J Mbu sent to harass a sitting governor, Rivers governor's jet grounded, Wike publicly saying they will arrest Amaechi as soon as his tenure expires and Jonathan wins re-election, Wike as minister always in PH with armed security men trying to intimidate a sitting governor ... etc. Sincerely will you fold your arms and watch? Man has to fight for his life and he ran into the waiting arms of APC and took it like the fight of his life and luckly he won. The bitter truth that even Amaechi haters know is that his achievements are there for everyone to see....the model schools all over the place, dual roads, some bridges and flyovers, students sent abroad to study with government scholarship, power generating stations for us the non-indigenes, the abolishment of matching ground and bush entry lol etc. I will give Wike some time to see what he will achieve but he should really learn how to talk in public. He is a governor. What baffles me is that nobody mentions Odili, the worst governor I have ever seen in Rivers and yet he made the most noise. Gov Odili was just buying buses for youth associations all over the place and giving them money to drink to stupor while he milks rivers money. Any of you guys ever wondered why Odili went to get perpetual injunction that he should not be prosecuted? If his hands are clean will he make such move? And I call on the federal government to quash that yeye perpetual injunction.
