    1. Considering the fact that decomposition doesn't take place in extremely low temperature, I do not think we need much explanations why those bodies did not decay, as for the influenza virus, they are extremely capable of forming crystals as a survival mechanism when they are in an unfavourable condition, they form this coats by altering their DNA or RNA ( they can't have both at the same time) and they form a protein coat by so doing. and that is how they survive the cold weather, they can only be destroyed by heat which denatures their protein coat.
