Doctors In House Section...

HIAN!!!!

BARTHOLIN CYST

Good day Stella. First Please Stella i'll like for you to post this on doctor's in house, please i don't want my email publish,i'll like to be anonymous. I have what is called a Bartholin cyst(swelling of the labia).I have had it for over a year now, though in the past years I notice the swelling but it didn't give me much concern because the swelling disappeared after some hours or the next day; this swelling occurs mainly after sex.

In December 2013, I notice the swelling again but as always I didn't pay much attention to it because I assumed it was going to disappear.Well, this time i was wrong because it remained.I tried using antibiotics and other drugs but it showed no sign of reducing so,i had to see a gynaecologist who advice i operate on it.I had an option of draining the liquid, but operating was the best solution so I was adviced. so few days later I was operated on.

After the surgery my nightmare began.I became really sad,my very beautiful virgina wasn't the same again,i won't be getting “Heads” anymore LOL...I constantly thought to myself. I had to think about what's important, which is my health so,I tried to get it off my mind...fast forward to few weeks later,I notice I still had swelling even after the surgery,my sitz bath and medication.I called the doctor so he could move my check up forward,so he booked me another appointment.

NB: this is not a case of a sex addict because I am not, though I think I may have resumed sex too early after surgery.I couldnt disclose this to the doctor when i went for my appointment. He got me examined, gave me some drugs and also wrote some prescription. The issue right now is,i have completed the drugs but I still have the swelling and it is now in the inner part(inside)of my labia.

I have been booked for another appointment and I intend to open up this time, but please I need the opinion from doctor's in house on what other measures I can take and if anyone knows about the drug SERRAPEPTASE.
thank you All.

    1. Hello Poster. I am a doctor and i have also had the same bartholin gland abscess as well. Very very painful condition i tell you. But one thing the house shd know is that antibiotics WILL NOT do anything!!! because an abscess is encapsulated and so antibiotics CANNOT reach it. you can only take it for the sake of the procedure u did. However Sitz baths with salt 3 TIMES A DAY FOR 15MINS EACH works like magic. After 2 days, the cyst or abscess will drain itself. along with some diclofenac 50mg three times daily (if u don't have ulcer) as an analgesic. The only permanent solution to it is complete excision of the gland. Marsupialisation does not guarantee that it will not come back because MOST surgeons will just do incision and drainage for u and pass it off as marsupialisation (same for complete excision) OR the new outlet created during the marsupialisation will heal and still be too small for the gland to drain itself wen it becomes "full" so to speak. I don't know which procedure u did, but it's possible that any of the above cld have happened. I did not do anything concerning mine because i noticed later that I cld press the gland and it wud drain from an unnoticeable outlet (maybe a miracle. Don't try it at home). I will advice you to ask your doctor what procedure was done (complete excision or marsupialisation) and then SEEK ANOTHER MEDICAL CONSULTATION!! And for the record, too much sex does not cause bartholin gland cyst or abscess. some women are just unlucky to have it. Good luck!

  15. My dear, I totally understand the frustration you are feeling right now. Truth is more women than you know suffer from Bartholin's cyst than they want to talk about. I have had my operation done twice now. The first time the doctor totally scarred my lady parts, I was worried for a while but then TBH,no one really stares into that area when the business is being done, lol. To my horror the swelling came back after a while and I had to do another surgery, two surgeries and a year after, the swelling came back and I wanted to die.i swore I would not visit the hospital so I looked into home remedies.Do your sitz bath with tea tree oil with lots of salt, after a while try and press the swelling out while in the sitz bath, this should help drain it.I heard turmeric helps as well. Lastly make sure you are well lubricated during sex, invest in a good lubricant. Also make sure you and your partner are free from any STIs.No antibiotic helps unfortunately..you can only manage the pain.

    1. I don't think the swelling came back because of the sex you had. However it's important that you don't have prolonged sex, that might dry you up and increase the swelling.

  20. seems like your se*ual partner has got HPV and as such reinfects you every time you shag. I also think you have HPV

You can easily be reinfected if there is an open wound (incision or unhealed cut in this case) and then you have unprotected shag which appears to be the case.

  24. If you don't open up to your doctor how can he treat your illness? You think he is a witch to konw everything happening behind him?

You need to tell him the truth am sure with that he can know how best to give you more medications. Please stay off sex for a while, if you are not married cross your legs and pretend to be mermaid. If you are married talk to your hubby to be patient and give you some few months off sex so that you can fully heal.

    Quick recovery darling.

  25. This poster behaved foolishly. How can you hide a piece of information so vital in your treatment from your doctor? Why is it that anything about the vagina is hidden by women but they won't hide it from toyboys till they get married. It is only for sex that you open it wide. You began having sex after such a surgery (marsupialization): And you are not a sex addict, what are you? If you are not married, note that you are playing with fire!

  31. What are the Bartholin glands?
The Bartholin glands are two small organs under the skin in a woman's genital area. They are on either side of the folds of skin (labia) that surround the vagina and urethra. Most of the time, you can't feel or see these glands.
The Bartholin glands make a small amount of fluid that moistens the outer genital area, or vulva. This fluid comes out of two tiny tubes next to the opening of the vagina. These tubes are called Bartholin ducts.
    What are Bartholin gland cysts?
If a Bartholin duct gets blocked, fluid builds up in the gland. The blocked gland is called a Bartholin gland cyst . (Sometimes it's called a Bartholin duct cyst.) These cysts can range in size from a pea to a large marble. They usually grow slowly. If the Bartholin gland or duct gets infected, it's called a Bartholin gland abscess.
Bartholin gland cysts are often small and painless. Some go away without treatment. But if you have symptoms, you might want treatment. If the cyst is infected, you will need treatment.
What causes a Bartholin gland cyst?
Things like an infection, thick mucus, or swelling can block a Bartholin gland duct and cause a cyst. The cyst can get bigger after sex, because the glands make more fluid during sex.
Infected Bartholin cysts are sometimes caused by sexually transmitted infections (STIs). You can lower your risk of STIs by using a condom when you have sex.
    What are the symptoms?
You may not have any symptoms if the Bartholin gland cyst is small. But a large cyst or an infected cyst (abscess) can cause symptoms.
Symptoms of a cyst that is not infected include:
    • A painless lump in the vulva area.
    • Redness or swelling in the vulva area.
    • Discomfort when you walk, sit, or have sex.
Symptoms of an infected cyst include:
    • Pain that gets worse and makes it hard to walk, sit, or move around.
    • Fever and chills
    • Swelling in the vulva area.
    • Drainage from the cyst
How are Bartholin gland cysts diagnosed?
You may find a Bartholin gland cyst on your own, or your doctor may notice it during a physical exam. Unless it is causing symptoms, you may not know you have one.
An abscess is diagnosed based on signs of infection, such as fever or swelling, and pain in the vulva area.
In some cases, especially if you are older, your doctor may remove the cyst to make sure that it isn't cancer or another problem.
    How are they treated?
Some Bartholin gland cysts go away without treatment. You can take a nonprescription pain medicine such as ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin, for example) to relieve pain. To help healing, soak the area in a shallow, warm bath, or a sitz bath. Don't have sex while a Bartholin cyst is healing.
If the cyst is infected, it may break open and start to heal on its own after 3 to 4 days. But if the cyst is painful, your doctor may drain it. You may also need to take antibiotics to treat the infection.
To keep the cyst from closing and filling up again, your doctor may put a small drainage tube with a small balloon at one end inside the cyst. The balloon is inflated inside the cyst to keep the cyst open. After the gland has healed, the tube and balloon are removed.
Sometimes a carbon dioxide laser or silver nitrate is used to prevent a cyst from growing back. For severe cysts that keep coming back, you may have surgery to remove the Bartholin gland and duct.
There is a procedure called marsupialization in which a pouch is created by making a cut over the cyst and stitching the sides together. This allows the cyst to drain.

  32. The doctor that operated you did a very poor job. He/she did not remove the cyst properly due to inexperience. U are consuming drugs for nothing. The only option is surgery again in an experienced hand this time.
