Calling Out Governor Rauf Aregbesola Of Osun State...

This call out becomes imminent because of the unwarranted name change of tertiary institutions in Osun State that he announced on the 10th of March,  2016 at the convocation ceremony of Osun State University.

Stella,
Hope this mail meets you well.  I appreciate the good work you are doing through your blog and I pray that God will continue to bless you.
I am a regular blog visitor,  although I hardly comment but I have learnt a lot from your platform.

Straight to the reason I am sending you this mail.  I will appreciate if you can help use your platform to call out the governor of Osun state,  Nigeria. In person of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

This call out becomes imminent because of the unwarranted name change of tertiary institutions in Osun State that he announced on the 10th of March,  2016 at the convocation ceremony of Osun State University.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Wednesday renamed all the state owned tertiary institutions after notable indigenes of the state.

The Osun state University has been named after Chief Bola Ige, the former Attorney General of the Federation.

The Osun state Polytechnic, Iree was named after former minister of Internal Affairs, ChiefSunday Afolabi

Osun state College of Technology was named after Chief Bisi Akande, former governor of Osun state

The Okuku campus of UNIOSUN was also named afer Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola

 Others are UNIOSUN College of Law, Ifetedo now Kayode Esho College of Law;

College of Social Sciences and Management Okuku, now Olagunsoye College of Social Sciences, Okuku; College of Agriculture Ejigbo, now Isiaka Adeleke College of Agriculture, Ejigbo; College of Education Ipetu Ijesa, now Ezekiah Oluwasanmi College of Education and College of Humanities and Culture, Ikire, now Eniola Atanda College of Humanities.

However, my primary concern is that of my alma mata Osun State University that has now been renamed Bola Ige university and the renaming of the various campuses of the university  as stated above.

Stella,  for the records, Osun State University is a young university  that started operations in September 2007 based on a multi campus setting across the state and still trying to find its feet.

It is however absurd that governor Aregbesola who happens to be the visitor to the university unilaterally announced this name change without following the due process.  It can be argued that the governor acted within his constitutional powers, but before such change can occur, it must pass through the state house of assembly who will have to amend the laws establishing Osun State University (Uniosun). This Mr governor did not do.

This clearly shows that the Ogbeni governor who sees himself as omoluabi has become a dictator rather than a Democrat as no worthy omoluabi will decide to rule his people with an iron fist. This is not the change the people of Osun voted for. There are many pressing needs the governor needs to pay attention to such as the massive uncompleted projects scattered across the state, the payment of salaries, just to mention  a few.

Osun State University is a brand that we the students that have passed through the system laboured so hard to put it in an enviable position it is today among the committee of universities in Nigeria and the world at large.
We say No to the name change. Osun State University (Uniosun) is our brand and not Bola Ige university.

Please I will like to remain anonymous as I am alumni of the university who happens to also work with the university.

Thanks and God bless

    1. Lauretta, let what go? Do you even have an idea of how much we struggled for the school to get to where it is now, how we fought to top competitions so that we can atleast be recognized at the national level? This same Gov championed the cancellation of mbbs, this same man refused to construct the university road, this aregbesola has never done anything for uniosun students. We pay heavily for the services we get. All he cares about is making money from the school and using it for what i dont know. Aregbe wasnt the one that built the school. He should just leave the name as it is biko. Inferiorating something.

  4. The people of osun are a set of people that need in-depth political orientation.

I served in that state and got involved a little with the political happenings. Osun people are lacking a lot in knowing how politics work, my reference to osun people mean those that are resident there especially, little wonder they usually have "imported Governors". This man knows how to handle osun people, and he is doing a good job of it.

Well...this man has a thing for changing names, from "osun state" to "State of Osun" amidst others. Enjoy who you voted for.

  6. Realy i hate to admit that Osun state is in deep shit, this man , as we call him 'BABA HAFSAL(MEANING BABA HALF SAlary) has been paying half salary since mid of last year, he is not concerned about the people but just himself, he feels he is doing the workers a favour by paying their salary, as raining season is approaching in osun state we expect that most road will be un-motorable because of abandoned ROAD CONSTRUCTION projects. When this ,man came in as a governor He choose not to work with the citizen of osun state (i refuse to call it STATE OF OSUN) be cause he believe that people living in Osun State are not intelligent enough, he followed his own sefish move and brought in his officials from lagos and environment, mind you , you cannot run an indigenous Osun State like you run Lagos state. sometimes you need to study your new environment, i dont blame him, he has never lived in osun state so he cannot know what obtains there. His SELFISH ACT has landed the state in this deep shit, Osun State has never been in this kind of situation before, it has always been a place of happiness, but now they wake up everyday to a strange news from his excellency. My conclusion: My fellow people of Osun state, please manage, his tenure will soon be over and this madness will fade away.

  13. Really this change of names of Institutions has to stop. It affects the lives of the so many students who have graduated. I am a product of University of Ife. My transcript carries Obafemi Awolowo University but my certificate carries University of Ife. Its so much confusion. I lost an admission when I decided to go back to school in Australia after 20 years post graduation. The University couldnt reconcile the two names immediately. It was only afterwards that they found out it was the same but by then the admission process was over. Harvard remains Harvard toll today.Yale remains Yale. Its just high handedness descending on Institutions and changing their names with a stroke of the hand! There are sooo many problems it will give to students even years to come. It must be resisted the way Unilag resisted. Let the Dons show that they are truly worth their Professorship if they are! My Take...
